Dear listmembers,
using a "logitech optical mouse" at the PS/2 port of my computer (Tyan Tiger
2460 SMP), the mouse wheel does not work any more with SuSE 9.3 (but *did*
perfectly with the identical mouse at the same computer using SuSE 9.2 + xorg
6.8.2). (I only upgraded the software and did not change any hardware!).
Reconfiguration using sax2 -r doesn't help. The mouse wheel is
disfunctional within sax2; I do not know whether this is a X issue or a sax2
issue.
Moving this mouse to the USB-connector (it is usually connected to the PS/2
port via an adapter) the wheel is functional.
summarizing:
mouse (PS2)+SuSE9.3 -> no mouse wheel
mouse (PS2)+SuSE9.2+xorg 6.8.2 -> mouse wheel functional
mouse (USB+SuSE9.3) -> mouse wheel functional
however, I need the mouse to run on the PS2/port because I need both USB-ports
for other purposes.
Are there any options to fix this? Modifying the settings
in /etc/X11/xorg.conf has no impact.
Many thanks for any advice,
take care

hi list,
attached is my xorg.conf
this one works fine with virtual. removing it (using the same line as in
24 e.g. causes the external output to the beamer to use higher not
useable resolution)
removing 1280x1024 from the list works also (off cause) but the beamer
is actualy supporting this resolution but i did not get X11 to use a
suitable frequence.
The most simply way imho is to add an option to configure the
external-out to some value, effectivly using it like a second card.
(multihead with clone if you like).
SubSection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1024x768" "1280x1024" "800x600" "768x576" "640x480"
Virtual 1024 768
EndSubSection
hi list,
I have installed the new SuSE 9.3 on a dell latitude 840c.
I can use the external beamer upto a resolution of 1024x768.
The display can more but the external video gets initialised with the
max resolution of the display, causing havoc.
When i have any higher resolution that 1024x768 in the list it does not
work. strangely when i switch size there is no change on the beamer
display. i guess they use the virtual display instead of the real one.
is this a configuration option ? any hints ?

Thanks for the tip. I looked at that and it was set to "no". I've
enabled that but unfortunately there is no change.
It doesn't matter if I use VNC, VNC java client, or FreeNX. All of them
do not work. I still get a black screen with an X cursor. So this tells
me it's an issue with kdm or xorg. i wonder what would be stopping X or
kdm from displaying remotely.....

I'm having a problem running VNC on SuSE 9.2 with xorg 6.8.2 and KDE 3.4.
I've tried enabling VNC through Yast and sax2. VNC is running, and I can
connect to the server, but kdm login screen never shows up. I get the X
cursor but all that is ever displayed is the grey background before kdm.
Eventually the session will disconnect.
After successful authentication over the java web gui, vnc does the same
thing, grey screen, no kdm.
I've tried recompiling xorg 6.8.2 from source but this hasn't cleared up
the problem. I'm at a loss here as this is a fresh install.
Any ideas?
Thank you.

Not a problem. You should send this to the list, though.

The error message says that the kernel-module fglrx couldn't be loaded.
Can you load it manually with modprobe ?
Which version of the fglrx driver are you running ?
If you did update fglrx to a newer version than shipped with SuSE-9.2 you will
have to recompile the kernel module coming as part of that driver from
sources everytime you update the kernel, because SuSE can ship only the
precompiled kernel module matching to the shipped version of the driver in
the SuSE release.
Dear listmembers,
trying to build the drm - modules after having installed kernel 2.6.11 on SuSE
9.2 always fails for me, though using the commands that used to work with the
kernel 2.6.8:
script in use:
*******************************************************************************
#!/bin/sh
pushd /usr/src/linux; rm -f .config; make cloneconfig; make prepare-all; popd
pushd /usr/src/kernel-modules/drm
KERNEL_SOURCE=/usr/src/linux make modules
KERNEL_SOURCE=/usr/src/linux make install
popd
*******************************************************************************
I always get compiler errors:
*********
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.11.3-2'

and so on and so forth; anyone having an idea how this could be solved?
Many thanks for helping,

Hello guys,
I had an IBM machine running SuSe 8.1 and tried to connect to a vnc
server through the command: vncviewer xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. It can work at
the first time. But as soon as the server reset and I ran the commmand
again, nothing happens. the viewer cannot connect anymore. the message
I always got is like:
"authentication suceessfully.
the server closed connection"
Got any idea why this happens and how to fix it? Thanks in advance.
Eric
