Hi,
Me and others have problems with the new 3.9.0 driver. If you can check
the threads at rage3d forums you might be able to help us.
First even though the drivers compile correcly when you modprobe them
you get the following error:
fglrx: no version for "struct_module" found: kernel tainted.
fglrx: module license 'Proprietary. (C) 2002 - ATI Technologies,
Starnberg, GERMANY' taints kernel.
[fglrx] Maximum main memory to use for locked dma buffers: 681 MBytes.
Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000000
printing eip:

*pde = 00000000
Oops: 0002 [#1]
It must be something with the regparm, which the drivers clame to
support and in order to make the work you must apply a custom patch from
here:
http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33761546
Even though the drivers load with this patch, every time you run a GL
app you get errors like these:
kernel: Badness in do_no_page at mm/memory.c:1455
or
kernel: Badness in copy_page_range at mm/memory.c:331
This seems to happen mostly is Suse 9.1 kernels and not to other
distributions. What do you think is the problem?
Thanks

I see you use swsuspend. From their pages at
http://swsusp.sourceforge.net/status.html DRI doesn't work since it doesn't
have support for power management.
That said, when you're using DRI, you can see it in /var/log/XFree86.0.log
: in there, there's usually a message about DRI enabled, or DRI failed to
load.
Besides, to actually have X trying to load the DRI module, in
/etc/X11/XF86config there should be a DRI line in Section "Module", like:
Section "Module"
...
...
Load "glx"
Load "dri"
EndSection
Hope that helps ^^;
Ciao,
Roberto

I have the same messages with driver 3.76, kernel-default-2.6.4-54.5 (the
last available from YOU).
I'm starting to think this kernel and the patch or the drivers does not
like each other.
Sadly I don't have time to try a newer kernel in the next days, but maybe
one of the new ones from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/i386
will work...

Yes, I tried those. But I must say I now have problem reproducing the
problem, I may have a corrupted km_drm installed (I have a makefile error
with km_drm-4.3.99.902-40, and a rpm -vV shows that Makefile has been
altered...).
Sorry but I can't be more useful since for now I don't have the time to do
a proper check of the configuration.
I'm about to leave for a trip and have some backlog to sort out. I'll be
available for tests only after 13/6 :-(

Hi,
I just installed suse 9.1 on my PC box. I installed
the Nvidia driver, freeglut et freeglut-devel.
But I can't find the file glu.h. Where can I have it?
Thanks.

Hi,
I have a Geforce4 440 Go 64Mb in my notebook (Suse 9.1) and I don't get
any external projector (germans call it a "beamer") to work with it -
external lcd display works fine. I use the nvidia driver.
I think it may have to do with the resolution & the frequencies. I
switched back to 800x600 in sax and the projector at least startet
displaying moving stripes. I need this thing to work in 1024x768, so any
help would be greatly appreciated.
you can find my current config in http://213.133.99.51/temp/XF86Config .
the synaptics-mousepad inserted there works great, as well.
Currently, I only get the standard-blue-screen of the beamer, as if it
did not get any signal at all.
I tried yanc but I don't know about the frequencies of the beamer. These
are used for the metamodes I have to define to witch on twinview.
Actually; I'm not even sure if that is what I need, since twinview seems
to be a second logical display. So I tried "clone" but that does not
work as well.
I just want the projector just to show the display as I can see it on
the screen. I reproduced this problem on three different types of
projectors.
By the way, of course I also tried Option "MetaModes" "1024x768
@x,1024x768 @x" (yanc)
with the more conformant "MetaModes" "1024x768,1024x768". I also tried
useEdidFreqs...
Of course I tried switching back and forth to and from my screen with
Fn+F3. I also tried STRG+ALT+FN+Ö (^=CTRL+ALT+"+") and STRG+ALT+FN+P
(^=CTRL+ALT+"-") and restarting my X server (CTRL+ALT+Backspace).
Sometimes, I also started my notebook with the beamer connected. Oh, and
it's about a projector on VGA-Out, not on TV-Out or so.
Interestingly, I can set 800x600-resolutions with xrandr -s, and that
does not display anything on the projector. As I said, if I do this with
SAX, it may display stripes.
I would be very, very grateful if anybody had a constructive idea,
Jochen

Hallo XFrees!
I hope the faq address is ok.
Besides other reasons I hoped my problem being solved with upgrade from
Suse8.2 to 9.1
My problem is, that I don't geht working my Radeon9200SE with my LG Flatron
1910B using DVI.
With 8.2 I used the driver suplied by ATI. All Infos didn't help to succeed.
Console was ok, but with switching to X-Server ony the analog output is
working (switching back to a console window ctl-ALT-Fn) allows using the DVI,
but not with the X-session.
With 9.1 I use the driver suppplied with the distribution. Configured by SaX2
in runlevel 3, selecting Radeon9200SE an monitor LG Flatron 1811B(digital) -
no 1910B available -
Finishing SaX a Testscreen is displayed and I can see it with DVI. After
starting x-server with init 5 or reboot, the old story: X-Session only analog.
Somebody out there who can help?
regards
hartmut
Hi,
Ctrl-Alt-F1 from KDE on my ACER Aspire 1353LM makes the screen go
completely blank. I'm able to blindly log in / off the text console
and to go back to KDE with Alt-F7. Any idea on what to try to
get a proper text console?
Thank you in advance,
Laurent

Just wanted to let you all know that I have installed this update w/o
much problems. I think most of the problems I was having was the ATI
driver for my card. Once I set the proper Sax2 profile, ran fglrxconfig,
and added the dri module to the proper config file, it all loaded
smoothley.
I did notice, however, that after restarting the x-server using
CTRL-ALT-Backspace and logged back in, it would hang at the KDE splash
screen. I would then have to reboot the machine.Once I was backup
x-server saw my card and I now have 3D acceleration!! I am getting
somewhere around 4500 to over 7400 FPS using glxgears!!!!

Ok, I broke down and installed the X.org X11R6.7 packages and everything
installed w/o a hitch. Apparently the install disabled parts of my fglrx
driver. I can run fglrxconfig and even load dri module, but the ATI
Panel keeps telling "The driver does not provide FireCL X11 extensions!
Panel components will operate only partially." How do I fix this???
All 3 X11 config files (XF86Config, XF86Config-4, and XF86Config-linux)
are showing the proper modules. Any help would be great!!!
Ciao!
