Hi,
I have installed SuSE Linux 9.0 on my box.
It ships a XFree86 server of version 4.3.0.1.
Kernel version : 2.4.21-99 - default
On this configuration , I have installed xf4vnc available at
xf4vnc.sourceforge.net. [xf4vnc is an xserver module to facilitate
Remote Control or Desktop sharing of the current active desktop ]. The
xf4vnc changes the XF86Config file to load its module called the "vnc".
After I install this software, X Server crashes with a SIGSEGV.
I also had a long discussion with Alan ( The owner of xf4vnc ) and he
doubts that the Suse build of xfree86 may have some problem as he was
not able to replicate this problem with his build.
I am attaching the configuration file XF86config, the modified config
file after xf4vnc is installed and the log file . ( I am trying to
launch X server on display 1 so i am attaching the corresponding log).
Please let me know if you can help me in any way.
Thanks

Hi Alidar,
I experienced problems with the nvidia-driver supplied by Suse YOU (online
update).
You'd better try the driver from the nvidia-homepage - it works fine and
installs without problems.
Best wishes
ROMAN.

Hello, I just installed suse 9.0
I have an nvidia riva tnt2 64
My system is running right now in 1280x1024 16bit ...and I'm using the
nvidia driver.
My question is...how can I get it to run higher than 16bit. It drops down to
1024x768 if I go higher than 16bit. When I installed mandrake...I had to use
xfree86 version 3 with the svga driver and I got 32bit 1280x1024.
This is what I want with suse but I never saw an option to choose what
version of xfree86 to install. What can I do about this?

You might try unloading the agpgart mod and then edit the XF86Config-4 and
change a line in the "ATI device section" to "yes" if it says no:
Option "UseInternalAGPGART" "yes"
This tells the driver to use it's own internal coding for the agp interface.
If that doesn't work or shows no real change then recompile the drivers to
use the intermal interface - in fact it maybe this way already and the
agpgart mod is a problem. By the way the drivers option are between the
fglrx and the radeon. While the fglrx drivers are composed of the ati driver
and kernel mod vs the radeon kmod and the fx86glx driver the radeon kernel
mod uses fx86glx for hardware accel. If one is going to use the radeon
driver with xf86glx then agpgart is probably advisable to start with, however
the ATI km_fglrx and fglrx drivers have their own agp interface and I think
that using agpgart mod here is causing the slow down.
If you do recompile the km_fglrx then both run "fglrxconfig" and re-install
the glx drivers. I gather that you got the 3.7.0 drivers from the suse
ftp ../Supplementary/X/XFree86/ATI/suse90/fglrx/3.7.0 dir.

Hi!
It seemed I succesfully installed the ATI drivers for my ATI Radeon 9200, as
when I type
fglrxinfo, I get the following
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc
Open GL renderer string: RADEON 9200SE DDR x86/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 1.3 (X4.3.0-3.7.0)
Also the ATI Control appears on the main panel. fglrx and AGPGART modules are
loaded and active. The "dri" module is also loaded.
Well, the problem is that what I get from glxgears is (average):
375 frames in 5.0 sec = 61.600 FPS
which seems to be extremely low for this system
Mobo P4P800 Asus, CPU P IV 2.8GHz, Suse.9 installed.
Also Yast doesn't recognize the video card (but this seems normal,I've red)
Can someone help to improve this installation?
Cheers
Michele

Hi all!
I have problems with my Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9600 Pro graphics
board.
I have installed the glx1_linux_X4.3.zip package from
http://www.schneider-digital.de/html/body_download_ati.html
and got 2D working fine with the fglrx module.
Unfortunately 3D (after switch2xf86_glx) produces broken output. The
upper half of the screen or window is fine, but the lower is either
completely black (glxgears) or shows only the background (the mountain
range in tuxracer, but not tux and the course itself).
With mesa everything looks fine, but it's of course no real long time
option.
The X packages I have installed (did the SuSE YOU after initial install)
are these:
XFree86-4.3.0-15
XFree86-GLX-4.3.0-15
XFree86-devel-4.3.0-15
XFree86-fonts-75dpi-4.3.0-15

XFree86-libs-4.3.0-42
XFree86-man-4.3.0-15
XFree86-server-4.3.0-63

Dear All,
I am running SuSE Linux 8.2 on an evo N620c laptop. From time to time when the X server is started or restarted the screen starts flickering and I need to restart the server.(the image dissapears or it becomes fuzy - az if the frequency would not be set rigth, or the entire screen becomes black and then slowly turns to white as if burning from inside out). It happens quite often (about every second time I start X). The laptop has an Ati videocard (Radeon 7500 LW if I am not mistaking - SuSE is using the right drivers so I do not think this is the problem) It might be the screen?!? (it is set to generic laptop panel).
Is this a problem that has been reported by others? on other type of laptops (I have used 3 laptops so far and never had a problem like this. also have used other distros on this laptop and have had the same problem) I do not believe something is wrong with the hardware since it is a dual boot with windows 2000 and the latter runs ok. It is either a bug or something needs to be configured. could you help me on this please!
Cheers,
Tibi

Hallo, alle miteinander!
Seit meinem letztem Update habe ich ein Problem mit Xfree86, dass gerne mit
der Fehlermeldung "Server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly" terminiert.
Kurz zur Konfiguration des Systems:
- SuSE 8.1 mit Kernel k_athlon-2.4.21-168
- Xfree86 version 4.3.0 für SuSE 8.1
- Qt 3.2.3
ebenfalls nichts finden.
Hat jemand eine Ahnung, woher das kommt?
Pauli
