Hi all!
I have problems with my Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9600 Pro graphics
board.
I have installed the glx1_linux_X4.3.zip package from
http://www.schneider-digital.de/html/body_download_ati.html
and got 2D working fine with the fglrx module.
Unfortunately 3D (after switch2xf86_glx) produces broken output. The
upper half of the screen or window is fine, but the lower is either
completely black (glxgears) or shows only the background (the mountain
range in tuxracer, but not tux and the course itself).
With mesa everything looks fine, but it's of course no real long time
option.
The X packages I have installed (did the SuSE YOU after initial install)
are these:
XFree86-4.3.0-15
XFree86-GLX-4.3.0-15
XFree86-devel-4.3.0-15
XFree86-fonts-75dpi-4.3.0-15
XFree86-fonts-scalable-4.3.0-15
XFree86-libs-4.3.0-42
XFree86-man-4.3.0-15
XFree86-server-4.3.0-63

Hi Paul and welcome,
I have a similar but older config, using a GeForce2 MX with SuSE 8.2 on my
home pc and a P4 running 8.2 on the server I support at work.
Good to see brave people running 9! We can't risk it at work yet and I
can't afford it at home yet (or the time to install it!)

Hi Support,
I have planned to use SUSE enterprise 8,
my requerment is to build server base on linux / unix base.
I want have confirmation about this product, it will working fine in
server which model HP Proliant ML-350 with specification :
1. Dual Xeon Processor 2.8 Ghz
2. Memory 4 GB
3. Harddisk with RAID 1 (2X73GB and 2X36GB)
4. DLT BACKUP drive
And not have any additional patch or driver to build the server in that
machine.
In my organisation currently working with configuration :
1. Windows 2000 Adv. Server O/S
2. Microsoft exchange server for email server include with Public Folder
/ Global Address Book.
3. Mdaemon for internet mail server POP3/SMTP Server
4. IIS for intranet web server
5. Share folder document for data to user.
6. Wingate for proxy server. (Internet Share) with leasedline 64 Kbps.
7. Oracle Application Server verion 9
I have 2 server in difference location and trust each other, connection
through leasedline 128 Kbps.
For similer the above requirment, did suse linux enterprise 8 can help
me to use same configuration server.
I believe server base on linux/unix is more strong that MS Windows. But
since I am not have expirience in linux, Please give some guiden.

Hi Hasan
No problem, I can send to your man in Singapore when he come over .
This SUSE Linux enterprise server 8 for X86 is SIN$ 2,200 nett . Its
actually a reseller price .
But pls allow 2 weeks for this to arrive , upon receive of your payment
.
We normally stock up on the normal Professional edition but the
Enterprise server is Made to Order only , so we will need to get your
confirmation and money before we get the goods in specially for you .
As for HP Server , there are a lot of Tech Specs on the SUSE.com website
, you may want to confirm if it support your server . SUSE will
highlight those that they will support . The version is for Intel X86
processor , so if your HP is running on Intel X86 processor , it should
work .

Hello folks,
Hopefully someone can help me out here a bit. I started out with SuSE 8.2 and
an Abit KX7-333R motherboard and an MSI Geforce 4 TI4200 with 128meg of RAM.
There I had a few minor video corruption problems using the Nvidia driver,
especially when trying to switch to a virtual console or when shutting the
machine down (the screen would turn into rainbow color garbage) but I
preferred it over the nv driver due to the speed increase. I purchased an
MSI K7N2G motherboard with integrated Geforce 4 MX 220 graphics and moved the
GF4 Ti4200 to my Windows machine, figuring that it was just a "glitch" with
that one card. To my surprise, the same problem happened with the new
motherboard with the integrated video as well, but it worked a tad better (I
could shut down properly then).
Fast forward to SuSE 9.0. I attempted to install it, only to find that it
wouldn't install unless I disabled the onboard sound completely (it would
freeze solid at the sound configuration stage and FUBAR the installation, but
that doesn't have much to do with X, so I won't go into it). The nv driver
worked fine at first, then I found Mozilla 1.4 would lock up when trying to
type into the address bar. I went to the Nvidia drivers, only to find that
installing them using YAST resulted in X trying to start up, only to lock the
machine up solid at a black screen, until I rebooted into recovery mode and
forced it to boot to runlevel 3, then set it back to nv.
Thinking it was a BIOS issue perhaps, I updated to the newest BIOS for the
motherboard. Now using nv "flickers", especially when viewing mpegs and
such. Odd spikes of color will flash across the screen randomly, like
there's a glitch in the refresh.
So, dreading it, I went to Yast online update and installed the update again.
This time it worked, but instead of coming up in 1600x1200@24bit, it came up
in 1152x864 with a virtual resolution of 1600x1200! I went to Yast and
reconfigured it, even though it said it was at 1600x1200, and tested it, only
to get the test screen at 1152x864 again with the 1600x1200 virtual
resolution. Checking the virtual resolution settings again, it showed the
resolution set to 1600x1200 with virtual resolution set to 1600x1200.
I disabled all resolutions under Yast except for 1600x1200, and it came up
when testing in 1400x1050 resolution with a godawful 60hz refresh rate! Then
I tried enabling 1280x1024 resolution with everything lower enabled, and I
ended up with 1024x768 resolution!
Thus far the best I can get is a 1280x1024 resolution with a miserable 75hz
refresh rate, when this monitor (Sony G420 19" monitor, and it's configured
as such in Yast) will do 110hz refresh at this resolution, and 85hz at
1600x1200. Now I can't even get the flicker-prone nv driver back, which at
least did 1600x1200@85hz like it's supposed to.
Anyone have any ideas? Every single update is applied, kernel
2.4.21-144-athlon.
Thanks a lot,
MattB
I'm setting up 9.0 on my system. I bought a VisionTek Xtasy card with
an ATI 9200SE 128mb AGP card. Yast has no driver for this card; I had
to settle for a VESA driver, i.e., no 3d acceleration.
I went to to the ATI site and downloaded their driver, packed in an
rpm. when I installed it, a message was printed on the term window
about running a makefile. Running that errored out, giving a message
about requiring XFree86 above 4.1 and a kernel greater than 2.4.8. As
everyone knows, both these requirements are met, and then some, in 9.0.
Is there a driver which will work with this card?
Having touble getting the right settings for this devices to work
correctly. The left (main) monitor is working correctly with VESA
detected settings at 1024x768, but the right monitor is stuck on 640x480
and all the settings I've tried fail. I tried setting both monitors to
LCD with many different settings that all fail. I looked up settings
under RedHat (multi-boot system) and tried to match, but still failed. I
remember having to manually set the DPI and Horizontal/Vertical ranges
to get to work in RedHat, but can't find DPI settings in SuSE and
changing the ranges fail.
Anyone with experience on getting these types of devices working?

I've installed a suse9, I've defined a user, and
the
Xserver were started successfully, but when I
reebot

wonnt start (I mean, I am thrown back to the login

Could you help me? It is a XFree problem?
thanks.

Hi all,
Since I upgraded to Suse 9 my X environment freezes regularly. Of course my
first thought was that NVIDIA's driver might be faulty but discussions in
their mailinglist show that it's restrictd to Suse 9 users. Obviously it's a
problem to 9's Xfree version used. Is Suse aware of this?

hi there,
a friend of mine got a problem with his acer aspire 1355LM Notebook..
after installation of suse 9, the x-server is not correctly recognized by
the
system. the fonts displayed are far to big as is the whole screen
resolution..
think the system uses S3 ProSavage8 chipset with AGP support 64MB RAM on
VIA ProSavage? KN400 Chipsatz + VT8235
*btw. didn´t manage to yet install the radeon driver on my comp. with
nforce2 mainboard
and suse linux 9, so i contacted suse support. i´ve been told that,
installing onto this system
just makes 2D use possible..
