Hi all!
I've set up the fglrx driver version 3.14.6 as specified in the README
(i.e. with sax2) and everything went fine. Now mplayer complained about
missing XVideo extensions and indeed "xvinfo" gave "no adaptors
present".
After a small google search I found a page that said to use fglrxconfig
instead of sax2 to configure X11.
http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux/2004-Aug/2289.html
And indeed that seemed to work:

Now the strange thing is that xine just shows a black screen when
I want to watch some video. mplayer crashes with
----------------------------------------------------------------------
X11 error: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation) 0.0% 0 0 0%
MPlayer interrupted by signal 6 in module: flip_page
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We
can't and won't help unless you provide this information when reporting
a possible bug. Successfully enabled DPMS
Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0x60)!

With the sax2 generated XF86Config at least playback with xine worked.
The XF86Config I'm using now is attached.
Any ideas?

Greetings,
I'm having video problems while loading SuSe 9.2 I'm attempting to load on a Thinkpad A21e with ATI Rage Mobility P/M video. I've been running this box exclusively on Linux for two years with no problem. My distribution has been Mandrake which recognizes the video easily. Unfortunately, Mandrake broke my sound with their 10.0 release and continued the problem with 10.1. Although SuSe gives me sound it fails with video.
Specifically, my Rage Mobility card is recognized during hardware configuration but the resolution is low. If I attempt to up the resolution I'm asked for vertical and horizontal synchs. Testing with the recognized low resolution is a total failure. The screen shows nothing meaningful and displays ghosted images while fading.
This problem seems odd to me as I'm running this video flawlessly on Mandrake 10.0. It seems even stranger as I notice Thinkpad configuration modules loading under SuSe 9.2.
I'm aware 9.2 uses x.org, which I believe is new. Is the problem with SuSe? Is the problem with x.org. Any help would be appreciated.

Seems a patch for compressed textures support (S3 Texture Compression).
Don't know if/how it's related to your crash.
For more info about the failure, you can try to use "strace -f doom3" to
see the system calls around the crash.

>From the readme on ATI site, the "new features" of this drivers are only
"support for all existing ATI PCIe cards".
The "issues resolved" are:
- Doom 3: Random polygons no longer appear throughout the display while
playing the game
- 3D Applications no longer fail to respond on RHEL 3.0 with 1GB or more
memory installed
- The System no longer fails to respond when moving the mouse around on the
screen on some systems
I wonder if the first fixes the problems I was having in almost all 3D apps
with textures (e.g. Celestia).
I won't know either, because for now my 9600 is in a AMD64 system :-/
that's still unsupported AFAIK, and that will get a 9.2 as soon as I can
buy a box.
I did read on a web news site that ATI hired 2 X developers and was about
to release a completely new driver.
I hope it's true. Meanwhile, I've bought a nVidia :-P
Ciao,
Roberto
Does the new ATI driver work with SuSE92/Xorg
(DRI support, switching between console & X,
Xvideo overlay etc)? I would like to update
to 9.2 because of the better(?) notebook support
(energy consumption, suspending ...) but
I don't wan't pay with the loss of 3D support.

PRODUCT: SuSE Linux I386 9.1 Professional
I have latest XFree86 rpm's properly installed in my system. I need
further development so want to update or change my current installation
in to Xorg-X11-6.8.1. I checked SUSE's download page for Xorg-X11-6.8.1,
but found just a general readme file. Can you help me by providing me a
step by step base Xorg-X11 installation instruction ?
Thank you...

The letters of subtitle language text (english) of DVD movies played using
mplayer are partly yellow and partly white. Without the OpenGLOverlay option
in the XF86Config they are only white as they should be.
I'm on SuSE 9.1. Excerpt from XF86Config
Section "Device"
BoardName "RV350 AP"
BusID "3:0:0"
Driver "fglrx"
Identifier "Device[0]"
Option "UseInternalAGPGART" "no"
VendorName "ATI"
Option "OpenGLOverlay" "on"
EndSection
To reproduce, play a dvd movie using mplayer, turn on subtitles and look at
the colors of the subtitle letters.
Anyone experience this issue too?
I tried to let ATI know using
http://apps.ati.com/linuxDfeedback/index.asp
but I get this error
ADODB.Command error '800a0d5d'
Application uses a value of the wrong type for the current operation.
/linuxDfeedback/datasource.asp, line 57
when I click submit. I tried different variations of the input to the page but
no luck. It looks like there is a ton of input checking on that page and I
suspect it stumbles in that. Why so much checking?
I have a Dell Insprion 8600 with a ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 PRO 128MB
video card.
I know the 9.1 distribution has support for it at
http://www.suse.com/us/private/download/x11/
Will there be support for it in 9.2? Also, has anyone tried the 9.1 RPM
for fglrx?
Thanks,
LDB
Further to my previous email, when I run startx I also get the following error before the "X error of failed request...":
symbol XAAScreenIndex from trident_drv.o is unresolved.
Can this be the cause of the "X error of failed request: ... opcode ... 91 ( X_QueryColors )?
Thank you
