problems loading nv driver

HP xw6200 running SuSE Linux 9.2 In YaST, under graphics card it says "nVidia VGA compatible controller" The number on the card itself says P283. I am trying to make the "nv" driver work - instead of the "fbdev" driver that is currently loaded. After running X -configure, in the xorg.conf.new file, the correct driver "nv" is loaded Section "Device" . . Driver "nv" VendorName "nVidia Corp" . . End Section It also detects the monitor, an HP L1906 correctly. However, when I test out the new config file the screen goes black and the monitor displays "Input signal out of range, change settings back to 1280x1024". In the old config file, the monitor was listed as a "vesa 1280x1024". I didn't try to change it back, maybe I should. Any feedback?

hola tengo problemas con el modo grafico,, tengo suse 10.1 instaldo pero no me carga el modo grafico,, alguien me dijo q cargara un livecd use el knoppix y copie el directorio x11 q esta en /etc.. luego lo quise pegar en hda6 pero me dice q no tengo permiso , auxilo necesito una solucion, a tambien cargue suse modo consola y trate de abrir la unidad de cd desde root y me dice q no tengo permiso ,, por favor alguna ayuda gracias

dual head, breaks again

Just installed 10.1 along side my existing 10. This really is getting frustrating. I attempted to configure my dual head system from within YaST, but again, no luck. I tried using my previous 10.0 xorg.conf file and again no luck. Upgrade from 9.3 to 10.0 required a complete reconfiguration to get my dual head working again. Now I'm trying to go from 10 to 10.1 and it looks like I'm in the same shape. So anyone know what's changed? 9.3 was a working xinerama configuration. 10 required a merged framebuffer configuration. So what does 10.1 want? No "Alt Gr" Key in Suse 10.1

Hello, just a few days ago I upgraded my suse 9.0 system to opensuse 10.1. But now I have problems with my keyboard. My "Alt Gr" key doesn't work properly which is necessary for e.g. the "@" sign and others (I did this by copy & paste;-)) Even worse Yast2/Sax2 don't let me choose any options in the keyboard dialog. There is just nothing in the menus and I can't influence layout and stuff that way. In programs like thunderbird (which I'm using for this eMail at the moment) the "Alt Gr" key has the same function as the "Alt" key - e.g. "Alt + D" opens the file menu and so on, which it shouldn't do! On the other hand German "umlaute" like ä ö ü ß work without problems. I tried to configure the xorg.conf but nothing solved the problem. Anything else wrong? Then I tried to insert keycodes using xmodmap (a Google result;-)) e.g.: xmodmap -e "keycode 113 = Mode_switch" But it didn't help and I'm not sure if that's the right way in xorg. By the way: "cat /var/log/XFree86* | grep keymap" and "cat /var/log/Xorg* | grep keymap" bring up the same result: (WW) Couldn't load XKB keymap, falling back to pre-XKB keymap (WW) Couldn't load XKB keymap, falling back to pre-XKB keymap Dont't know what that means:-( My feeling is, that upgrading suse 9.0 left some old config files or stuff on my computer and these are disturbing. Working with linux in textmodus everything works fine even the "Alt Gr" key. Well I think that's all I figured out for this problem and I hope someone out there has an idea what I'm searching for. crash with radeon + dual head and dvi

Hi, I finally succeeded to see something on my external monitor using the DVI port of a port replicator. However, the time of happyness was rather short, since after a while the display froze and the machine was crashed. There is also a problem with booting the machine with the external display switched on. When I switch it on later it works (until the freeze ...). I do not know what the problem might be. I checked the log file and it seems that the DDC recognition does not work. In addition, the following seems to be not right: (II) RADEON(0): Primary: Monitor -- LVDS Connector -- DVI-D DAC Type -- Primary TMDS Type -- External DDC Type -- NONE (II) RADEON(0): Secondary: Monitor -- NONE Connector -- VGA DAC Type -- Primary TMDS Type -- NONE DDC Type -- VGA_DDC I guess, the connector of the second head should be DVI. This is the way I configured it ... Appart from this both displays use different timings. Maybe with different modlines everything could work. Or maybe I have some experimental modules loaded which I should not load. Or should I use the old radeon driver? Wrong dependency on libexpat.so.0 for the fglrx SUSE 10.1 RPM?
