Hi all!
I have problems with my Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9600 Pro graphics
board.
I have installed the glx1_linux_X4.3.zip package from
http://www.schneider-digital.de/html/body_download_ati.html
and got 2D working fine with the fglrx module.
Unfortunately 3D (after switch2xf86_glx) produces broken output. The
upper half of the screen or window is fine, but the lower is either
completely black (glxgears) or shows only the background (the mountain
range in tuxracer, but not tux and the course itself).
With mesa everything looks fine, but it's of course no real long time
option.
The X packages I have installed (did the SuSE YOU after initial install)
are these:
XFree86-4.3.0-15
XFree86-GLX-4.3.0-15
XFree86-devel-4.3.0-15
XFree86-fonts-75dpi-4.3.0-15
XFree86-fonts-scalable-4.3.0-15
XFree86-libs-4.3.0-42
XFree86-man-4.3.0-15
XFree86-server-4.3.0-63
The important parts of my XF86Config are here:

Anybody similar problems/experiences or ideas what to try next?
If more information is needed I'm happy to provide more details.

I am trying to install 8.2 on a IBM blade server, I can successfully
install, but when the
system comes up after the first re-boot I am unable to carry on as I
have lost keyboard and mouse.
I have rebooted and brought the system up in "safe settings", run saX2,
configured, run the various
tests and everything looks fine. When I type xdm at the prompt
everything starts up fine, and KDE starts
up.
But when I reboot, and I am presented with a login screen, I have lost
keyboard and mouse.
Has anybody else experieneced this problem, and if so what was done to
resolve it.
Thanks
Darren

Yes, that's true. The Verite driver on SuSE Linux 8.2 should work.

There is a known issue about freezes on silicon motion.
I was never able to reproduce it, therefore I have no
fix for it. However there is a workaround:
Either turn off write combining for the framebuffer by putting
Option "NoMTRR"
into the device section of the XF86Config. Or reduce the size
of the video RAM used by the chip by Putting:
VideoRam <videoRamSize - 10KB>
(where you have to replace <videoRamSize - 10KB> with an actual
number in kB).
Unless there is another problem I don't know about, yet, this
should help.

Hello,
I have a laptop running Suse8.2. Recently I connected an external
TFT monitor (SyncMaster 191T with 1280*1040 resolution), but I do not
manage to configure such that I get a good picture on the screen , at
least not via yast2 - the picture is always cut off in some places. Can
somebody recommend a way how to solve this? The system does not even
respond to my wishes to change resolution etc. Looking into
/etc/X11/XF68Config I see
Section "Monitor"
Option "CalcAlgorithm" "CheckDesktopGeometry"
DisplaySize 320 240
HorizSync 30-90
Identifier "Monitor[0]"
ModelName "1400X1050@60HZ"
Option "DPMS"
VendorName "--> LCD"
VertRefresh 40-60
UseModes "Modes[0]"
EndSection
but even if I change to the 1280*1040 suitable for the screen it does not
work.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Cheers,
THomas

Hello,
Is it yet possible to get the new driver to use an S3 Savage KN133
(Twister) graphics chip in SuSE Linux 8.2? This
(http://www.probo.com/pipermail/savage40/2003-July/000038.html) indicates
that a driver has been developed that enables the Savage to utilise
dri/opengl.
If not, any idea when SuSE will release an update?
Many thanks,
Peter Lewis.

Hi X-Users.
Is there anybody out there? I didn't see any mail in this mailinglist
for days now...

You are scrupulously honest, frank, and straightforward.

I've had the opportunity to better test this problem: I've recently
installed 2 servers at 2 different customers sites: in the first one a
internet connection wasn't available (the IPS had some fiber connection
problem), so I couldn't patch that server. I configured all the various
features, including KDM remote access and xinetd-launched VNC server: that
installation had exacly the problem you are reporting: KDM started
accepting incoming connections only when not starting a X server for the
local PC.
At the other site Internet connection was available, and I patched the
system fully: when I configured the KDM+VNC access, all went well.
It seems some patch (to KDE? X servers?) solved the problem.
Ciao,
Roberto
Hi,
since installing SuSE 8.2 a couple of month ago I occassionally experience
system freezes when performing certain tasks under X (e.g. watching certain
pages with Mozilla, trying to turn off the background image in KDE, etc.).
I already played around with the configuration (I attached the current
config) but this didn't help. What else can I try? Can I downgrade to the
XFree86 from SuSE 8.1?

About those freeze ups. It could be your bios interacting with the video
card with 8.2. I had issues with 8.1 and my AMD motherboard with 3D
acceleration. Upgrade your bios and see if that doesn't clear up the
problem.
