Updating XFree86-4.4.0 into Xorg-X11-6.8.1

PRODUCT: SuSE Linux I386 9.1 Professional I have latest XFree86 rpm's properly installed in my system. I need further development so want to update or change my current installation in to Xorg-X11-6.8.1. I checked SUSE's download page for Xorg-X11-6.8.1, but found just a general readme file. Can you help me by providing me a step by step base Xorg-X11 installation instruction ? Thank you... Fatih ALABAS

Hmm ... may I ask why do you think you need to update? A step by step installation instruction is already in the README. http://www.suse.de/en/private/download/x11/index.html ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/Xorg/Xorg-X11R6.8.1/i386/suse91 ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/Xorg/Xorg-X11R6.8.1/i386/suse91/README Stefan Public Key available ------------------------------------------------------ Stefan Dirsch (Res. & Dev.) I read that Suse Linux will not support X-Free86 after all. So I get anxious and do not want to be out of date with my display features for the future improvements. Actually, I am not sure if this update is really necessary !! Maybe, your idea can help me! Fatih (not: I tried rpm -Uhv *.rpm, but the process outputs a warning message- "NO KEY for km_drm-6.8.1-14.1.i586.rpm package" and installation fails) On Thu, 2004-11-11 at 17:09, Stefan Dirsch wrote:

Before you do the switch, note that if you rely on ATI's proprietory fglrx drivers then they do not work well with X.org 6.8.1 (they do work with XFree86 4.3/4.4). In any case, if you rely on any proprietory driver, it is a good idea to research on whether they are available for 6.8.1 before you make the switch.
