X crashes under 9.0

Hey all, I'm having some problems with my new SuSE 9.0 network install. The install went fine. However, X will load up and freeze under a minute. I can swirl around the mouse for 10-20 seconds then everything freezes up. I'm unable to jump to other terminals at this point. The kernel, however, is still purring along. I can ssh into the machine. But killing X remotely doesn't give me back any control over said machine. I've tried quite a few things to figure this out, but to no avail. I deleted the XF86Config to get a fresh start and ran Sax2. Sax2 crashes in less than a minute after X is up. I also tried using my working XF86Config file from SuSE 8.2, but that didn't help any (ie., X still froze). I have 2 devices that are getting different IRQ assignments under SuSE 9.0 than what they got under 8.2. 8.2 had: 10: 2 XT-PIC ohci1394, Intel 82801BA-ICH2 11: 30 XT-PIC eth0 9.0 had: 5: 25 XT-PIC eth0, ohci1394 Everything is the same except for these 2 devices grabbing IRQ 5 (they had 10 & 11 under SuSE 8.2). I'm not so sure if this IRQ reassignment under 9.0 is really the problem anyhow. I popped out the firewire card (ohci1394 above) so eth0 could grab IRQ 5 all for itself, but X still dies. I don't see anywhere in BIOS to reassign these particular IRQs. Not knowing exactly what I'm doing, I also tried setpci -s 02:08.8 INTERRUPT_LINE=11 (11 was what SuSE 8.2 put eth0 at). That went in quietly. I also did setpci -s 02:08.8 INTERRUPT_PIN=11 which went in quietly too. I reassigned the firewire card as SuSE8.2 had it as well, but I saw no change when doing 'cat /proc/interrupts'. I don't see any errors in /var/log/XFree86.0.log either. A few Warnings, but nothing that looks detrimental. I also tried pci=noacpi at bootup. When I 'dmesg' it suggested that I try this. Still no go. My video card is a NVidia TNT2 32MB / AGP. It more or less worked find with SuSE 8.2. I'm truly stumped on this one. Anyone have any ideas? Anyway, thanks for reading! Eric Pierce __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New Yahoo! Suse 9.0 On Dell GX270

I want to install Suse 9.0 on a brand new Dell GX270. It has the integrated Intel 82865G network card. I have tried everything I can think of and still can only get 640X480 resloution. I really think it is an issue with the Intel card. Does anybody out there have any suggestions? Thanks.....

XServer fails after Yast Online Update

Dear list, I've upgraded my SuSE 8.0 through the Yast2 YOU tool. Source was ftp.leo.org. Apart from nicely insatlling all the new safety patches, it also messed with my XFree86 System and I'm back to 80s style text mode. In Yast2 itself, the system detects Current Settings: 1024x768, 16 bit / 65536 colo(u)rs Refresh rate: 60 Hz 3D acceleration disabled Monitor: LCD XGA 1024X768@60HZ: ,,Probe Hardware'' actually switches into graphics mode, and I see some remains of past sessions, but the it comes back and says it could not write the configuration. Video card and monitor frequency problems

Hi, I have installed SuSE 9.0, but in the start of the installation i have an option to select the resolution and i selected 1280x1024, and after the installation of all the system without any problems, when starting X, i stay with no image in the monitor. Just get the message from monitor (not linux) saying that the frequency is too high for the monitor. I understand that! but when i try to change the resolution and frequency with YaST2 or SaX, i have the same problem... when i click the button to allow modifications of that kind the monitor stays black and saying that frequency message. How can i modify frequency and resolution without having this problem? Any ideas Thanks in advance Carlos Vieira

Could not find XOpenDisplay in -lX11

Hello all Hopefully someone can help me here. I'm running SuSE 8.2 with Xfree 4.3.0-111 (development packages installed) I'm trying to compile fluxbox-0.9.6 window manager and when I run configure it stops at the following - checking for XOpenDisplay in -lX11... no configure: error: Could not find XOpenDisplay in -lX11. Does anyone know how to fix this? Hi, I installed suse's driver for my radeon 8500, no problem. But i don't use TV-out, why ? but i use fglrxconfig. 3D support for ATI 9600 with fglrx and DRI doesn't work

Hi, I have ATI RADEON 9600 with 256MB runing on Epox 8RDA3+ motherboard (NForce2) and SuSe 9.0. I downloaded fglrx (3.2.8) from suse's ftp and follow all instrutions on README. Including put "Load 'dri'" on XFree86 file. But 3D doesn't work. Whem I run "fgl_glxgears" the message "Error: couldn't get fbconfig" shows on screen. And whem I run any 3D program, like TUXRACER a warning message shows on screen: "3D hardware support not available No 3D graphics card available or 3D support not configured yet..." What I have to do ???????? Someone can help me, please ??????
