Hi! Well, it seems I'm the only one interested in translating opensuse.org into Polish so far... :) There's however one person, who's helping me with that by reading already translated documents and reporting his opinions. I'm grateful for that, so I'd like to place under my username (on the Translation Team page) thanks to Mieczyslaw Solarz (he agreed with that) for supporting me with translation, or just to mention him there as a team member (I believe, virtually he is team member if he's continuosly helping). What kind of login?

Looking on openSUSE wiki, and Wikipedia. One with login, the other without. They had login too and the site was small. Then they removed login, and site started growing to its present size. How many people will go trough registration process, just to make minor edit? I think just a few. I edited Wikipedia few times, with login requirement it would be no edit at all. So, what is what we want? Protected site or active one? Fear from vandals? Wikipedia has same problems, and obviously some solutions. We can have some pages protected, some accessible with login and the rest free. -- Regards, Rajko M.

base syntax for articles

Translating the present pages, I noted some remarks. Please, see this only as discussion notes. If you agree with them (after editing them as much as you want) it could be a good idea to make a wiki page. I don't really know of the english/us habits, but I was for a long time a french author and editor (books, may be the olders of you remember the HP-41 days - I had books translateds in english and edited in USA, also in Netherland) and periodics. Of course there are many times where rules must _not_ be followed, but to do this, we needs rules :-))) jdd small remarks on the subject of article writing and section handling. It's a good practice (anywhere, not only in the wiki) * to don't make unnecessary cascading subsections. just an example, the toc here http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Howto has a "2 Procedures" section with 3 more levels sub-sections and many of them before reaching the "3 Links". It should probably be better to move up one level the 2.4 SDB tags. it's not always easy to do, however :-), but usually we should use only "==" and "===" * when sub-sections are used, one sub-section title must follow immediately the section title, with almost no text between them. again only as an example: http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Howto#Syntax There should be a sub-section after Syntax, for example "==== Basics ====" this is specially important with the way mediawiki opens the editor window, to have just openned the relevant part. spell checking

Purpose of our Wiki and copying of Wikipedia.

I would like to discuss the copying of Wikipedia articles and the larger purpose of our wiki. First I don't see any point in copying articles from Wikipedia: 1. I believe it is a breach of the GFDL as the current openSUSE site terms are not currently GFDL compatible. 2. Any article copied is doomed to become out of date, with any update of wikipedia. 3. It is easy to directly link to Wikipedia with an interwiki link eg [[Wikipedia:Interwiki_link]] will link to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interwiki_link I think our Wiki "mission statement" should be that our wiki should only contain information in relation to SUSE Linux or openSUSE project. If we have a page on KDE it should be a brief description and about KDE on SUSE not a history or great detail of KDE, as this is unmaintainable in the longterm, but it should link to the KDE project homepage and the Wikipedia page for KDE, for the indepth detail, that is not relevant to SUSE. This of course, does not only apply to material sourced from Wikipedia.
