I don't see an SuSE rpm, or src rpm for Expect, so have the following
questions and comments for an suse7.3ppc install.
The Expect INSTALL instructions..
1. suggest installing expect in /usr/local/src/ . This seems consistent
with the SuSe directory tree (manual pg 335).
2. states that "the TCL source directory is assumed to be in the same
directory as the Expect source directory".
I installed TCL8.3 via SuSE rpms. rpms -q -i returns
"tcl-8.3.3-44.src.rpm, build host "strawberry.suse.de"
I presume I should create a symbolic link in /usr/local/src/ that
points to /usr/src/packages/SOURCE yet the directory is empty.
find / -name tcl* -print
... and a few other miscelaneous doc files.
Should I uninstall TCL, and reinstall from a src rpm to get the source
Is there an SuSE rpm for expect I missed somewhere?
Thanks in advance,
SuSEs support-pages descibe "GNOMES: SuSE Linux GNOME Service":
In addition, SuSE keeps a lookout every day for new GNOME
programs or new versions of existing GNOME programs, and makes
these immediately available. These web pages are automatically
updated every day; it really is worth making use of the Shift+
Reload function in your browser."
When can we expect theese pages to be updated? There is still no entry for
SuSE 7.3 PPC, and the newsest version of AbiWord is v. 0.9.5, though
AbiWord has already passed v.1.0
Hi, I have a PowerMac 4400/160Mhz with 32MB and 2GB HD connected to my LAN
with a Realtek PCI 10BaseT ethernet card that is not predestined for mac
computers. I only want to recycle this oldworld mac for navigate on the web,
macos dont see this card, but Linux can.
I have ever tested most diestributions for PPC :
-Mandrake PPC : very nice distribution but not very finished for oldworld
macs and too heavy for my poor old PowerMac.
-YDL : a too untidy distribution, can't go farer than partition editing
(suxx bug at this moment) and the french traduction is very bad
- Debian : I think very good way but not enought intuitive, I didnt find any
ram file on any cd to load on BootX to start the install (only boot.bin but
I get a strange thing), BootX is int he CD1 but there is no word about it in
- SuSe : My last hope, moreover, puiguinppc.org webmaster recommanded me
this distribution for my needs.
My only problem with SuSe is downloading, I have ever read the "why we dont
give any iso", my mac dont get 64MB so I cant download from ftp, SuSe
website speak about a README.FTP to read for comp that have less than 64MB
but I did not see it anywhere (there is a README on the ftp but it dont say
any word about
That I am doing is downloading all ppc/7.1 directory from the ftp to my pc I
dont know when it will finish and for now I have 1.5GB, I also dont know how
I will do to install on the mac because my ethernet card cant work on macos
(to transfert this directory) and my mac harddrive is only of 2GB.
I can't also buy the pack because I dont know If it will work like I want on
my computer, I ever tested much distributions, I am not at the end of my
Please help me!!!
Thank you !
Please forgive me for my mistake about the precedent message :-)
have anyone experienced to install KDE 3 on Linux SuSE PPC 7.3? I downloaded KDE from suse site, but after installation with yast the login is always with KDE 2.
Infact KDE not update the old version but it addict itself on /opt/kde3. Plus, if I start kde 3 from failsafe it run in a very slow mode, such KDE 2.
Anyone has some advice?
Thanks in advance.

I've got the following problem: I want to ssh to another computer:
But: When I type
I get the message:
ssh: Bash: command not found
Since I'm not really an advanced Linux User I thought maybe ssh isn't
existing on Linux...lets try:
And what happend? It showed me the man pages of ssh -> so I think ssh IS
existing on Linux and I think I have installed it, because I think if the
man pages are shown its correctly installed...or not?
But for one reason it's not running on my machine.
I'm running Suse Linux 7.0 PPC on a Macintosh G4.
If anybody has any hints how I can get ssh running on my machine I'd be glad
to hear about it
And just a question: What about Suse Linux 8.0 for PPC? Any ideas when it'll
I may already send a e-mail on the subject
I installed the Cyrus-IMAP and Cyrus-SASL rpm packages from SuSE7.3 on a PC
and it works perfectly with Postfix and Procmail. The packages were very well
I would like to have a backup server at job but the only available stations
are Imac's or G3's.
Thus I have SuSE7.3PPC on a G3. The Postfix rpm. package delivers a working
application without problems but ...
There seems to be some bugs with the Cyrus-IMAP or Cyrus-SASL rpm. packages.
If I try to configure Cyrus-IMAP with the instruction:
G3: # cyradm -u cyrus localhost ==> nothing happens
.... and when I say "nothing" it means nothing, just a blinking cursor
waiting for who knows what, no error message, no log messages, nothing, niks,
Idem with instruction imtest.
I installed the same basic config on the backup server.
Is there a specialist of the PPC version who can tell me what the problem is?
Are the Cyrus-IMAP and Cyrus-SASL for PPC desperately inoperative?
