Hi, Finally, journaling file system ReiserFS coming to the Mac, thanks to Jeff Mahoney from SuSE. Installation of ReiserFS on Mac is rather tricky, but really worth trying. Linux box as gateway/firewall?

Hello, I have a local Ethernetwork of several Macs, and would like to use one of them (an old Power Mac 7300 running SuSE Linux 7.0) as gateway/ firewall to the wide world. I understand from the IP-Masquerade HOWTO that this requires the 7300 to have *two* Ethernet ports: iMac iMac \ / \ / Hub ---------------- 7300 --- Modem --- WEB. / \ / \ iBook printer (See http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/IP-Masquerade-HOWTO-7.html#ss7.26. Only the 7300 would stay "on" 24/7.) 1) Do I understand correctly? 2) If yes, I need to add a Network card in one the 7300's PCI slots. What's a good choice? (Price, SuSE 7.0 support,...) Mount: wrong medium type

Hello, well, Iam still having trouble with not being able to mount data cds. As I mentioned before, this only occurs some time after booting and can be fixed by a reboot. I get "Mount: wrong medium type" on my screen and the following log message: Jun 10 15:10:16 linux kernel: cdrom: pid 22465 must open device O_NONBLOCK! Jun 10 15:10:16 linux kernel: cdrom: open failed. Does anyone have any idea what is doing this? I wondered if it was a process that is causing it, but I have killed almost every user running process, and it still occurs. thanks Joss -- http://www.josswinn.org

XF86Config 4.02 on FW IBook Indigo

Hi, If anyone have working XF86Config for XFree86 v4.02/Apple FireWire iBook Indigo (with Rage 128 Mobility) please e-mail to andrei.verovski(a)bigfoot.com or post to this mailing list. Main XF86Config worked great with XFree86 v4.01 but crashes XFree86 v4.02, and no automatic config tools did anything but completely garbled screen. Thanks in advance Andrei

ReiserFS PPC + MacOnLinux = Crash

Hi, I just reformatted my root partition from ext2 to ReiserFS (I have single Linux partition), reinstalled Linux, and everything is OK except except MOL. I recompiled again both 2.4.2 kernel (with Endian-safe ReiserFS support) and MOL, stripped again NW ROM, changed MOL prefs, but nothing helped. I think the culprit is the ReiserFS partition where MOL keep its temp files, because I have the same setup as before, but it does not work anymore. Thanks in advance for any suggestion. Andrei

Converting LVM ext2 volume to ReiserFS

Hi all ! I have a 252Gb LVM volume (on 4 HD) using ext2 FS. I am running on SuSE 7.1, with kernel supporting ReiserFS. Is it possible for me to convert the whole thing to ReiserFS, without losing data? If so, what would be the best way to do it? Thank for a great postlist ! Sveinn G. Gunnarsson

bug: Keymap in Suse Linux 7.1 PPC - y and z

When I select mac/mac-dk-latin1 in Yast -> Installation settings -> Select Keymap I expect a Danish keyboard-design, but it seams that Suse mix up the "z" and "y"-key. Is this a bug or do I misunderstand something? ;-) -j

Installation on G3 Powerbook 500

Hi List, after installation I cannot get SuSE Linux starting up without asking for a new installation. It finally runs when I run the "internal setup program" (in lack of the installation CD which I believed should NOT be needed anymore) and after going "Back" a few steps and telling it to start an already installed system. But that ist not what it is meant to be, I hope ...
