hello, following up from my message yesterday, I thought I would note a couple of observations concerning mail and SUSE 7.1PPC. The version of fetchmail included has a bug that produces an error saying that the command "AUTH" is not recognised (or something similar). I looked around on the web and this is a known bug in fetchmail. I am now using the latest stable version and all is well again. The buggy version works fine by the way, it just produces the error. I solved my procmail problem by shifting the .procmailrc file into /etc instead of my home folder. I've no idea why that makes any difference but it works for me as I'm the only user on this machine. Just (a week ago) completed my first PPC installation "without" problems and I have dedicated a week browse around the system and figure out what is different between PPC and x86 (this is my first Mac and I like it) But were can I get more software? Freshmeat? Is there a single source were I can find software for SuSE PPC or do I just have to keep on browsing? From the X86 world I am used to find the software I want, but now ... Very little. I am looking for Java developing tools like J builder (yes I like Netbeans, but another would be nice) and and office package like StarOffice is there any out there? If there is very few apps for PPC and there is very little effort to port more. What can be done to change this situation (yes I know I can do it my self :-) I am basically trying to find out some more about the PPC community I know this questions have probably been answered several times, but I am brand new to PPC Regards Even

hello out there, i have lots of trouble trying to use my second eth interface under suse linux, both 6.4 and 7.1. this is concerning my home server (and every other mac i set up with suse linux 'til now) with the following unspectacular config: power mac 8200/120, one 1,2gb scsi hd (apple built in), one 4,5gb scsi hd (/home), 64 megs of ram (ok ok, it's not my g4 with 1gig ;), on board 10mbit eth (=eth0, works fine unless its pretty slow), one smc etherpower 10/100 (9432TX/MP) via the 'epic 100' module. (if i does work after your hints i guess i'll give it a second to manage nfs for my sun machine... ;) this seems to be pretty normal. everything works fine until you try to activate this smc card to work as the eth1 interface -- there's no difference trying device eth0 for the card. restarting the network (to enable eth1=smc) results in a hanging machine which is not only dead on the console, but also doesn't answer pings nor is reachable via telnet. you have to reset the machine. ***my question now is: did anyone successful use this card under (suse) linux?*** i tried to use this card on a power mac with netbsd -- no problem there... because it's a pretty good card, i think ;) tia for your answers and greetz, timo (aka Pansen)

Hi, as i connected an USB barcode reader on the USB-port, i got the following error message: unresolved symbol mac_hid_mouse_emulate_buttons unresolved symbol macv_hid_keyboard_sends_linux_keycodes insmod /lib/modules/2.4.2/kernel/drivers/input/keybdev.o failed insmod keybdev failed i'm using an iBook with SuSE 7.1 and Kernel 2.4.2 What can i do to let it work ? The barcode reader works with keyboard emulation and works fine on MacOS. thanks for reply, Bernd Ulrich

PM 9600 and 7.1

Much to my shock and surprise, when I purchased SuSE 7.0, it was only -after- I made the purchase that I found out that the kernel as shipped didn't support both PCI busses in my PM 9600. So now, I guess I have to ask: is it supported? I can't, for the life of me, find an entry in any of the knowledgebases, so I'm wondering- anyone out there know? Alexei

I just recently got my retail copy of SuSE 7.1 for PowerPC. I could not boot my CD1 via open firmware on a rev. B iMac and my iBook 333. Has anyone having these problems, If you do please post what New World PowerMac you have on this thread. Old world Macs are invited to post too. MOL causing kernel panics

Hi, I've just updated to suse 7.1, with the 2.2.18 kernel. I've got an iMac 350 (slot-loading) with 320 MB RAM. Suse is on a 2.5 GB partition, Mac OS 9.1 & 10.0.1 are on a 4 GB hfs+ partition. I've tried running MOL (version 0.9.53 from the Suse 7.1 disks) but it always fails to startup. I usually don't mind hacking around to get to root of the problem, but now I'm finding that MOL is causing kernel panics about half the time I run it, and it's no longer fun. Is this normal? I guess MOL needs low-level system access to work, but if it's going to be crashing my system I may as well just boot into Mac OS 9.1.
