Joss, Can you explain how you got yaboot working? I have a B+W G3 with 2 hard drives. On my master drive I have OS9, OS X and Linux, I use my slave for back-up purposes. I have a linux bootstrap partition, in HFS format on the Master drive. I can't get yaboot to boot into Linux. I have to boot up from the CD, Andrew Montague

Installation problems

Hi, I have another question This one is regarding installation on my G4 This is the problem: I have a G4 (see spec. below) and I am unable to install This is what happens: I have prepared the SCSI disk for Linux and made a boot partition 30Mb and put the suseboot folder in it. I then choose the partition containing the suseboot folder and tries to startup the install by holding down the "C". The machine is trying to start up but the screen goes black and the machine does not respond any more, this happens if I hold down the "C" or not. This is what I think it can be: The machine is set up with SCSI and ATA The DVD is installed on ID 0 and the ATA is on ID 1 In the manual it states that there could be problems with the ATA setup, however I have tried everything I know (not very much :-) Can someone help? And also help with the scripts? It took me 1 hour to install SuSE PPC on my powerbook but the G4 have taken me over a week. XFree86 4.x on Apple FireWire iBook

Hi, If anyone succeeded installing XFree86 4.x on Apple FireWire iBook please share his wise experience. XFree86 3.3.6 work in frame buffer mode, 256 colors, but attempt to switch to XFree86 4.x with command switch2xf86-4 fails, or to say precisely, just nothing happens. Also, it would be nice to work in full graphic acceleration mode. I knew that Debian people somehow managed to get it work. Snippet from X86Config Debian attached. Please tell me is it possible to do something similar with sax2 or manual editing of X86Config. Thanks in advance. -- Hello, what do i have to do, to solve the known Keyboardproblem on my imac rev b with suse 6.4. Installed? Editing the XF86Conf does only help until the next reboot... Another problem is that i do not get my machine to boot from the partition i edited in the open firmware. Is it the missing backslash on my german keyboard? My partion table is: #6 swap #7 root #8 hfs #9 hfs+ (MacOS) The settings in the XF86Conf regarding the Framebufferdevice are not perfect. The screen is very slow. I copied a good working XF86Conf for the ATY Mach 64 wich i lost in between. Thanks in advance kai

sendmail woes

Hello, I have tried holding this request back but now beg you for your help :-) I want to get the simplest of sendmail configurations set up so I can use Mutt and fetchmail. I have a dialup 56k connection and an ISP that distributes my mail. I collect mail via pop3. My iMac is called 'linux'. For the past three weeks, I have looked everywhere on the web for clues on what to do, but nothing seems to work. So far, I can only get mail via Mutt's pop3 feature (not fetchmail) and sending mail returns the mail to me saying linux.local is not recognised. Using YaST, what settings do I have to change from a freshly installed SUSE 7.0? I really would like to get this over and done with. Thanks so much joss

How do I switch from bash to tcsh

Hi, I've just installed SuSE PPC 7.0 and everything seems to be working ok. However, creating a user seems to default to using the bash shell. I'm sure it's nice, but I prefer tcsh. Changing the shell under yast seems to indicate that tcsh is now the one being used, however, .cshrc isn't being executed and typical tcsh commands (like setenv) aren't recognized -> the error message seems to indicate that bash is still the current shell. I get the same results using chsh. Why can't I change to using tcsh? Thanks, Steve

USB audio (iSub) now works but internal speakers fail

hello, I now have the iSub usb woofer working on my iMac DV after rebuilding my 2.2.16 kernel with usb audio support. For some reason it wouldn't work when audio was a module (insmod audio; lsmod, but the driver didn't recognise it). Anyway, now the internal speakers don't work :-( and I'm wondering if there is a known fix for this. Or a good guess.
