Tumbleweed - kmix shows no volume in systray and no mixer when opened - what's up?

All, I installed Tumbleweed fresh and then KDE3. Kmix displays in systray, but with the red X where it would normally display the volume. Opening kmix and there is no mixer shown - at all. Has anyone experienced this, and how to fix it? Also, kde3-gtk-qt-engine cannot be installed on Tumbleweed due to the missing libbonoboui (lib bonobo ui - however it is named). That dependency is nowhere to be found in the configured TW repositories. Has anyone found a work-around? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

There may be a desktop time issue in KDE3 that causes different TOTP gen between keepassxc GUI and CLI

All, I ran across this strange bug building keepassxc on a 15.4 box. The build failed at TestPasskeys check which led to updating libbotan and libbotan-devel to 2.19 and the build issue was fixed. However, here is the bizarre part. With keepassx 2.7.6 and now with the fresh 2.7.8 with the GUI, I get different TOTP codes generated using the keepassx-cli command line in konsole and using the keepassx GUI. For example, in the keepassxc GUI, I got the following TOTP (times the same to the second): 176393 From the CLI, I get a completely different TOTP, e.g. $ keepassxc-cli show -t ~/.config/xxxxx.kdbx -k ~/.config/xxxxx.key "/Internet Sites/accounts/GitLab - Archlinux" Enter password to unlock /home/david/.config/xxxxx.kdbx: 103475 The CLI TOTP is correct, the GUI generated one is not. I ran into the TOTP issue a few weeks ago when gitlab just stopped accepting my TOTP codes as "Invalid". After stumbling across the build failure, I figured out the keepassxc-cli generate TOTP works fine with gitlab. I had opened a keepassxc issue on the build failure (the TestPasskeys check failure) which led to discovering the libbotan issue and comes down to this. The GUI and CLI use the same code to create the TOTP, the only possible difference is the time between the console and time reported by the desktop environment. If there is some strange zoneinfo, etc.. issue lingering in KDE3 that is just now manifesting, we may see more of this type issue. I've never seen anything like this before and checking the environment, the only thing I see time related is "COMPREPLY" that I'll have to look at further. Just make a note of this post if you run into anything funny time related in the future, this may give a starting point for debugging. I'll update if I find more on the issue I'm having. -- David C. Applies (at least) in 15.6 and TW/Slowroll # zypsei dmz i+ | dmz-icon-theme-cursors | package | 11.3.0-1.22 | noarch | OSS # 15.6 version # Xcursor.theme: DMZ-White Xcursor.size: 32 Whether I include these two lines in: /etc/X11/Xresources, /etc/X11/Xresourcss/local, or /etc/X11/Xresourcss.d/local It also makes no difference if in /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager I include: X_MOUSE_CURSOR="DMZ" or X_MOUSE_CURSOR="DMZ-White" or neither. KDE3 desktop sessions ignore them. Is this a KDE3 flaw or an openSUSE flaw? I want them effective globally, so unnecessary to do anything anywhere in /home/*/.kde/* or /home/*/.config/* to have 32px DMZ-White mouse pointer effectively by default. The only way I've found that's sure to work is in ~/.kde/share/config/startupconfig to include these two lines: kcminputrc_mouse_cursortheme="DMZ-White" kcminputrc_mouse_cursorsize="32" -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science. Leap 15.5 KDE3 start menu: missing internet group

Hello:I installed Leap 15.3 desktop-data-openSUSE package in my Leap 15.5 system.It shows the program groups in KDE3 start menu but the "internet" category is missing.In my Leap 15.1 it is between "graphics" and "multimedia" groups. Why is it and how could I fix it? The internet category is an important one, and now none of its application are shown in KDE3 start menu.Thanks,Istvan

Are bigger than elsewhere and bigger in TW than in Leap, swelling the height of the tabs to 150% of the height they ought to be. I can't find anything that can change them in Konsole settings, and nothing I see in Personal Settings icons is different except for toolbar that's 32 in Leap, 22 in TW. Both are using Crystal SUSE icon theme. The only other place I have noticed about icon size difference is in personal settings the framing buttons in TW are huge compared to those in Leap, while the content icons are a match. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science. [kde3] KMix ignores HDMI outputs

I have at least 40 different TW, Slowroll and Leap installations using KDE3, mostly to the exclusion of any other DE installed besides IceWM. Since early last year, typically right after a zypper up or dup, I've been collecting inventories on them of installed sound-related packages, and setup options, such as from inxi -ASaz alsactl info wpctl status pw-cli list-objects Device pw-cli list-objects Node aplay -lL systemctl --global --user status pipewire.{service,socket} systemctl --global --user status wireplumber and sometimes others. The attachment is one such collection from 15.5. I've been hoping to find the right combination such that alsa, pipewire and/or jack sound always works for everything that uses it - without requiring pavucontrol or pulseaudio be installed. WRT KMix it seems I have narrowed down what is required or not when the audio connection is the pinjack output of motherboard or discrete audio card, or a laptop's built in speakers, but not if output is expected from HDMI or DP, whether from discrete GPU card or from motherboard graphics outputs. Even when KDE3 system sounds work through HDMI or DP, KMix seems oblivious to possible existence of speakers attached to the ends of DP or HDMI ports. It seems there must be somewhere that the default audio output needs to be registered according to what is connected, or specifically as desired, but I've been unable to locate any such setting, while KMix seems must be permanently directed to the analog output in every case one exists, which is virtually always. Trying to configure KDE3 sound through KControl on these produces: "Unable to start the sound server to retrieve possible sound I/O methods. Only automatic detection will be available." With KDE3 system sounds, automatic detection is obviously working, but not for KMix3. HDA Intel HDMI can be selected from the mixer window, but all that window shows are yellow dots for e.g. 3 IEC958s - sans vertical sliders. I note that all my most recent PCs have only Intel CPUs with integrated GPU, and all have multiple digital outputs, either one DVI and one HDMI, one DVI, one DP and one HDMI, or one DP and two HDMI. Normally when in use these PCs are using all 2 or 3 available digital video outputs, and those displays getting HDMI or DP input have speakers I wish used. Does anyone here know what is happening, or not, that keeps KMix3 from using any DP or HDMI Intel HDA output? Is this a known KDE3-specific issue? I suspect it shouldn't be, because on TDE and Plasma installations the problem is similar, just less clearly analog-works, digital-not, with different mixer UIs. Can a disabling of analog out or preference to digital out be made by the system, and to be recognized by KMix? Is there some secret method of configuring KMix to see the digital out? If I were to report on b.o.o. is there any likelihood somebody would try to fix it? If would be nice if we still have KDE3 in 15.6 and 16.0 that audio would just work without including pulseaudio to degrade audio performance. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science. Firefox open containing folder

Hi all, I would like to ask if any of you have found a solution to get the open containing folder function in Firefox to work. It should open with Konqi but currently it does nothing. I have already tried to set the xdg-mime type for inode/directory without success. Greetings Lioh

15.4 bmp images - no preview in konqueror, no display in kview, etc...

All, I may just have mixed up libraries on 15.4, but currently it will not display a simple uncompressed .bmp file in konqueror preview or in kview or any other kde dependent image viewer. Other image viewers are like gpicview are fine. I don't recall this ever being a problem before, but maybe from the ancient days I loaded another packman library? Bug Kate - rename "Save As" doesn't Update name in file list if extensions shortened (e.g. .cpp to .c)

I need someone to confirm a bug with the Kate documents list. If you have a file saved, e.g. main.cpp and then "Save As" main.c the window continues to show main.cpp. Same if you have file.txt and "Save As" file.t, the name in the document list remains file.txt even though you are editing file.t now. Need to Update C/C++ syntax for size_t

All, We need to update the c.xml and isocpp.xml syntax files to include size_t as a type. A simple addition of the following in the type section is all that is needed: <item> size_t </item> Nothing could be easier.
