[opensuse-factory] Suggestion: website feed for breaking changes in Tumbleweed?

>From time to time, it's necessary for breaking changes to be made to Tumbleweed, as well as other cases where broken updates slip through the cracks of openQA. Would it be a good idea to set up a feed on the openSUSE website where notices of upcoming breakages and urgent fixes are provided? This would be somewhat similar to the homepage of the Arch Linux website. There is already the opensuse-factory mailing list, however, as a relatively high volume list with a fair amount of unrelated discussions (e.g. systemd v.s. other utilities), it's easy for important issues to be missed. Having said that, this would require someone responsible for managing the website and ensuring that the information on there is updated in a timely manner. Any comments would be appreciated. I am certainly not willing to run TW in my production tests as I could not stand the breakage that happens from time to time, but I still want to test TW. You do not need to have any VB shared folders in fstab. They will automatically get mounted without those entries, and the system does not hang if vboxsf is not available. I had noted that the shared folders were not being mounted, but I had other higher-priority matters to investigate first. Your report boosted the priority. Hi all, i wonder, if nobody else has issues with vboxsf and Kernel > 4.10; tw runs in the latest virtualbox on win. I honestly don't know when they arised, must be 3 days ago. vboxsf complains (via dmesg) and doesn't work: vboxsf: Unknown symbol readlink_copy (err 0) virtualbox-guest-kmp-default is the latest (5.1.14_k4.10.1_1-2.11) from factory-rep, kernel now from today 4.10.1-1.1 Was trying to build the virtualbox-guest stuff from the with virtualbox provided package, which complains about missing generic_readlink, which was basically killed with kernel 4.10 (right ?). Hi, I have a question regarding the x-server in Tumbleweed. What am I supposed to have installed? Currently I do have xorg-x11-server-7.6_1.18.4-3.1.x86_64 It got installed January 11 during an 'zypper up', from tumbleweed/repo/oss. If I use the OS package search, it tells me the official TW version would be 7.6_1.13.2. If I downgrade, how do I prevent the install of future 7.6 releases that seem to sneak in every now and then? (I have 6 updates of this package since Aug '16). Why is this happening on first place? I hope this addition will clarify some of the more common questions people have, especially when first starting with pyparsing/Python. * Deprecated ParseResults.asXML. I've never been too happy with this method, and it usually forces some unnatural code in the parsers in order to get decent tag names. The amount of guesswork that asXML has to do to try to match names with values should have been a red flag from day one. If you are using asXML, you will need to implement your own ParseResults->XML serialization. Up until now, this has to be resolved by the user inserting their own negative lookahead: "BEGIN" + OneOrMore(~Literal("END") + Word(alphas)) + "END" Using stopOn, they can more easily write: "BEGIN" + OneOrMore(Word(alphas), stopOn="END") + "END" The stopOn argument can be a literal string or a pyparsing expression. Under Python 2.x, these methods will return lists, under Python 3.x, these methods will return iterators. - ParseResults now has a method haskeys() which returns True or False depending on whether any results names have been defined. This simplifies testing for the existence of results names under Python 3.x, which returns keys() as an iterator, not a list. - ParseResults now supports both list and dict semantics for pop(). If passed no argument or an integer argument, it will use list semantics and pop tokens from the list of parsed tokens. If passed a non-integer argument (most likely a string), it will use dict semantics and pop the corresponding value from any defined results names. [opensuse-factory] Snapper: cannot boot from any snapshots

Hi I am unable to boot from any snapshot. After selecting the option to boot from a read-only snapshot, and then selecting a snapshot, I see a message that says something like "if OK, run snapper rollback and reboot" but I can't do anything from there. Pressing enter refreshes the screen and I see the same message. I can enter the GRUB menu and such, I just can't actually boot. Obviously this is quite alarming as I'd always thought I can rely on Snapper and is one of the reasons I'm happy to use Tumbleweed. Any suggestions? Kind regards, Huw

Hello again, I wanted to ask if anybody could check if all group assignees in Bugzilla like bnc-team-xfce, kernel-maintainers etc. have real persons/email addresses behind it. Otherwise many bugs reported by users or other developers will go unnoticed and rott without feedback. [opensuse-factory] KDE freezes in a deadlock

Hi guys, my tumbleweed installation freezes also. First I thought, this happens, when the system tries to wake to waking up from the power saving mode. But now I was working with the system and a video clip was running in smplayer. Suddenly the video was running in a short loop, so that the last sentence was repeated in a loop. The keyboard was dead, so change to the console was not possible. This seems to happen more and in the last days, with the last updates. Any ideas? [opensuse-factory] unexpected freezes

Dear all, I am facing a lot of freezes on tumbleweed. It seems that is something wrong with kernel. I am using the latest one. Suddenly it freezes when formatting external drive or when just watching youtube. After that my only option is hard reset, as i cannot switch to commandline. I have already report a message i have found on dmesg, but i didn't see any progress on the report. Hi, would you guys mind to somehow trigger an update of thermald to Tumbleweed please? I see this package already in the "hardware" project (https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?project=hardware&package=thermald) as version 1.5.4, but in Tumbleweed is has still 1.5.3. 1.5.4 has better Haskwell support. I probably need to install and start thermald on my notebook, because I got overheating issues and the new kernel 4.10 seems to write them to all open terminals. I looked into a few of them, and while it's only anecdotal, I didn't find any _actual_ downgrades... for example: yast2-online-update: on Leap 42.2 [1]: yast2-online-update-3.1.11-6.2.noarch.rpm on Tumbleweed [2]: yast2-online-update-3.1.11-1.3.noarch.rpm Both of these are v3.1.11, and the source tarballs match; but the higher build number (a byproduct of OBS) apparently suggests to zypper that this is a downgrade, not a reinstall. Libyami is short for Yet Another Media Infrastructure. Libyami is a core building block for media solutions based around VA-API with efficient/simple APIs, limited external dependencies. It parses/writes video streams and decodes/encodes respectively all while leveraging hardware acceleration. It also provides support for video processing and interfaces supporting ffmpeg, v4l2, and openCL.
