This COPYING file suggests "GPL v2 or later" and as the individual sources files do not have copyright headers this mentioning applies. The author should put COPYING headers as suggested in his .c and .h files of course. foomatic-filters has: License: GPL v2 or later in its RPM header. This also matches the internal license scan results. I talked to our license guys and for "GPL v2 or later" using gs in GPL v3 mode is fine. If those in turn provide libraries, they are however GPL v3 after compilation. So foomatic-filters is fine to use with the libgs library. Hi, Since I'm going to file more than 10 delete requests for what is mostly old applications, I thought people might want to know about it. If you believe there's a good reason to keep a package, please speak up, but only if you care enough to also find people to maintain the gtk+ 1.2 package (and friends, like glib 1.2). I'll create the delete requests at the end of the week. Hey Group; I have been fighting a printer not printing error for month on a openSuSE 11.2 and 11.3 box. I have reduced the errors down to one hurdle left. Enclosed is a short error file /var/log/cups/error.log about 30 lines which I feel contains the error. I just don't relate to it. The printer does not have any wait times set. Hi, I do not want to re-heat the discussion about the disappearance of sax2 and the automatic configuration of the X server. However, I do have a questions. In this brave new world how would one disable the Ctrl-Alt-Backspace key sequence? Previously adding Option "DontZap" "yes" to the Serverflags section did the trick, AFAIK. Not having xorg.conf makes this a bit difficult. The original bug report I submitted was on usb-kde-Build 289. I have now d/l and burned the latest "openSUSE-11.2-usb-kde.x86_64-2.8.0- Build302.1.raw ". At the initial boot, the red ncurses message displays the error "firstboot_license_novell has failed". Selecting next, the display shows same red box with "firstboot_license has failed". Continuing after that, the boot proceeds until it tries to start X where it fails. The pertinent logs are attached. Hi, [resending. after zonker asked me yesterday for update, I wondered if I again sent to the wrong address. If someone knows how to kill "recent addresses" from kmail I'm glad to know, because this tricks me every 2nd time ;(] As almost everyone is back from vacation, I'm targetting a first 11.3 milestone. Since christmas the live cds build again (I had to remove Ooo for size reasons, we will have to play the cleanup game again) and the DVDs will build today for the first time today too, so we can test and fix up - and get a M1 hopefully next week. There are quite some build failures all around and I'm looking for volunteers to help out there. [opensuse-factory] Firefox not working

Hey group; How come firefox will not show "About" or "Preferences". And why is that a factory version will fail to work correctly? It seems openSuSE has made it with less than complete version (compare the number of files). It will not see OpenOffice3 for pps downloaded from Thunderbird after written to /tmp/file.pps. Firefox just states it doesn't know how to handle the pps file. OpenOffice3 does. And in the past you could tell Firefox Preferences to do that. Hi Listmates, I'm using Factory, and today I can't "zypper up". Do you want to retry retrieval? ------ I did "zypper clean", then "zypper refresh", and finally "zypper up", but didn't work at all. Change the repo URL to other mirror also failed, gave same error. Hi, For a while, I've been wondering why we still have glib 1.x and gtk 1.x (as well as some other part of the GNOME 1.x stack). So today I looked at this closely, and I think we can work towards removing those packages. Why should we remove those libraries? Well, they're not maintained upstream, and from a security point of view, this can be quite bad. See below for some analysis on which package it impacts, and what needs to be done. Please have a look at the list of packages that would get removed. Sorry for posting this on factory, but maybe several opensuse 11.2 users are reading as well. With the recently updated kernel 2.6.31.8 and rt2860/2870 opensuse freezes just after login if you choose automatical wlan setup. If you are using a manual setup, it will freeze when trying to connect. Hi, I have two new packages which are candidates for Factory. I haven't done submitreqs yet because I would like to have some feedback first. The packages are mozldap - mozldap-tools (depends on svrcore) The Mozilla LDAP C SDK is a set of libraries that allow applications to communicate with LDAP directory servers. These libraries are derived from the University of Michigan and Netscape LDAP libraries. They use Mozilla NSPR and NSS for crypto. License: GPLv2+ | LGPLv2.1+ | MPLv1.1 Project URL: https://wiki.mozilla.org/LDAP_C_SDK svrcore - libsvrcore0 => Secure PIN handling using NSS crypto svrcore provides applications with several ways to handle secure PIN storage e.g. in an application that must be restarted, but needs the PIN to unlock the private key and other crypto material, without user intervention. svrcore uses the facilities provided by NSS. License: GPLv2+ | LGPLv2.1+ | MPLv1.1 Project URL: https://wiki.mozilla.org/LDAP_C_SDK mozldap is already shipped in openSUSE as part of MozillaThunderbird and SeaMonkey. Currently I don't know of any other "users" of that library in Factory but there is third party software outside which uses it and another user will most likely be added to Contrib soon => 389-ds So if these would be added to Factory it would be possible to use it from Thunderbird and Seamonkey instead of shipping it multiple times. There is a risk though that necessary updates to Thunderbird or Seamonkey would need a version update of the system library as well. We still could avoid it by readding the internal libraries if needed though. The API itself seems to be pretty mature. Any feedback if we should add that to Factory and if so do we rip it out of Thunderbird and SeaMonkey? I really would like to hear some thoughts about it. Hey Group; What is the reason that one directory in my saved OOO3 directory and "ls -l" directory is ????? ?? ??. Is this another problem caused by some very useless security of my files. I brought up OOO3 edited the files then wanted to save them only to find OOO3 can not write them. Hey Group; I have 2 Ethernet devices in the machine and the slow forcedeth device is handling this email. Concerning Wireshark by openSuSE and the forcedeth device known as eth0 - What is the device like /dev/eth0 to use. Eth0 doesn't exist. What device does Wireshare use. Hey Group; Why is it that KDE4 will not exit using Start>Leave>Logout in both 30 seconds and Yes not allow KDE4 to exit? The only way to kill it is via "kill -9 "#### Nor does it change and save any "Configure Desktop" changes. Yes I have tried removing /home/me/.kde4. Has anyone attempted to run a old IBM AIX box on openSuSE. I think it is an AS 400 with a PowerPC CPU. How much trouble is to get this running openSuSE. Recently, I was working on improving the reiserfs support in grub so that it doesn't take forever to load when there is a journal with outstanding transactions that need to be replayed. The thing is that the grub 0.97 code is truly awful. Every file system implementation has to implement strangely chosen primitives and, outside of the code itself, has 32k in memory which it has to manage itself and not exceed. This is the crux of the reiserfs /boot performance issue in bnc#538795. On top of that, the upstream grub developers refuse to accept fixes or features against 0.97, forcing distributors to carry patches around forever. The good news is that GRUB2 lifts a whole lot of restrictions. It's modular in design, has a cleaner implementation, and has native support for more file systems. It supports LVM and MD RAID volumes. It supports DMRAID volumes (though I'm not sure how well here). The upstream development community is interested in maintaining it. The bad news is that it's a boot loader. There may be bugs lurking in there. That are tough to track down and leave you with an unbootable system. Hey Group; I opened two previously saved spreadsheet documens. To save them I hit the loppy disk icon next to he folder icon. The save blue bar cast at the bottom makes it about 75% then hangs. This is with he Open Office from openSuSE recently downloaded/upgraded. Furthermore. did it save both sheets or not.
