[opensuse-factory] Firefox not working
Hey group; How come firefox will not show "About" or "Preferences". And why is that a factory version will fail to work correctly? It seems openSuSE has made it with less than complete version (compare the number of files). It will not see OpenOffice3 for pps downloaded from Thunderbird after written to /tmp/file.pps. Firefox just states it doesn't know how to handle the pps file. OpenOffice3 does. And in the past you could tell Firefox Preferences to do that. Oh by the way Blender 2.49b still fails to come up openSuSE 11.3 -- 73 de Donn Washburn 307 Savoy Street Email:" n5xwb@comcast.net " Sugar Land, TX 77478 LL# 1.281.242.3256 Ham Callsign N5XWB HAMs : " n5xwb@arrl.net " VoIP via Gizmo: bmw_87kbike / via Skype: n5xwbg BMW MOA #: 4146 - Ambassador " http://counter.li.org " #279316 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

A most excellent question - who to put the blame on? :-) Which is why Carlos correctly suggested to raise a problem here in the first instance before running to the bugzilla. No offense to anyone but bugzilla should be a source of information as well as reporting problems. If the problem can't be found there (yes it has a poor search function) then report it here and enter it in bugzilla. :-) -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I, at least take no offence.

A legitimate view, Ken. But not accepted by a number of people. Why, you ask?
If the problem can't be found there (yes it has a poor search function)
Aha! "...a poor search function". You answered the question yourself :-)
then report it here and enter it in bugzilla. :-)
(But then we have all read about where reports to bugzilla have been rejected. "What is a girl to do?!",I ask you :-D ) BC -- Take the bull by the tail and look the facts in the face. You're right, Patrick, my batting average has not been good recently. Time to go and gaze at the clouds and smell the flowers. BC -- Take the bull by the tail and look the facts in the face. Hey Group; I download from Mozilla Firefox 3.5.7 and installed it over openSuSE's 3.5.6 and very thing is now working including About and Preference. Just to let folks know it may have been a 3.5.6 problem solved by Mozilla -- 73 de Donn Washburn 307 Savoy Street Email:" n5xwb@comcast.net " Sugar Land, TX 77478 LL# 1.281.242.3256 Ham Callsign N5XWB HAMs : " n5xwb@arrl.net " VoIP via Gizmo: bmw_87kbike / via Skype: n5xwbg BMW MOA #: 4146 - Ambassador " http://counter.li.org " #279316 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I finally came around to test on Factory. I had 3.5.7 already installed and it works for me (actually the original report was not very detailed so not sure if I've tested everything or the right thing at all). After that I updated to the real current Factory version which is 3.6rc1 and still it does what it's expected to do for me. So please if anyone seeing an issue can describe it so that it's actually reproducible or at least has some more information besides "it's not working" please speak up now with as most information as you can get. When installing such stuff, it's better to use /opt or /usr/local so the original is left in place to be returned to when the new one misbehaves.
