[opensuse-factory] Switching to compiz and then back to kwin using fusion-icon disables desktop effects

Listmates, For some reason in kde43beta2 if you use fusion-icon to start compiz and then use it to switch back to kwin, all kde4 desktop effects are disabled. Any thoughts on why? -- David C. [opensuse-factory] Classic Menu in kde43 looks good, but still can't add folder from menu to panel

Listmates, If you haven't tried the classic menu in kde 4.3, it is worth a look. It is really cool. In kde4 it is cleaned-up, there isn't a side bar and the icon size is small so you get a really compact and efficient menu. (much easier to navigate in my opinion). The pluses of the kde4 classic rework is that you can add the 'recently installed', 'recently used applications' and 'recently used documents' to the menu as well as other new menu features of the kickoff menu. However, you still can't add a menu 'folder' to the panel like you could simply do in kde3. I have elevated my 'wish' to a 'bug' at kde.org, because this isn't a wish, it is a regression and loss of functionality that needs attention. [opensuse-factory] Features list for 11.2 and YaST webpin client status

Hi all ;-) In according to progress of new features for 11.2 (outgoing from http://en.opensuse.org/BrainStorming_Prague#Features_are_not_known.2C_they_a re_not_documented.2C_thus_not_used_and_integrated.2C_...), they are not known yet. It would be great to have some list, at least implemented features with status, for example in openSUSE Weekly News (and of course they´d be updated), so we can test them. And i´d like to ask how is the progress with implementation of YaST webpin client. If i´m not wrong, the last mention is a couple of month old (http://hedgehogpainter.livejournal.com/4686.html), but nothing news. [opensuse-factory] Mailto in firefox doesn't give focus to thunderbird

I've noticed that when I click a mailto link in firefox the new message is opened but it doesn't get focus and you have to click on the task manager to bring it to the front. I haven't used a mailto link for a long time but it used to bring the new message to the front. [opensuse-factory] Compiz 0.78 and kde43beta1 - kicker/systray panel gets stuck at times??

Listmates, I have been trying to figure out what is going on with kicker while compiz is running on 4.3beta1. I have it set to autohide and it seems like the panel just gets "stuck" hidden from time to time. I say stuck because when I move the mouse to the bottom of the screen, I can see the panel "shadow" or "glow" appear across the edge of the screen, but no matter how many times I bounce the mouse against the bottom edge, the panel will not unhide. Now when this occurs, if I deliberately change the focus to some other place, like inside a window (kwrite, firefox, whatever), then the panel will unhide like normal. So with compiz running, the "focus" gets lost or stuck somewhere until it is force back to a known location. Almost like the present focus location is stored in some array and somebody is counting from 1 instead of zero and when the focus window is the zero element, the panel is stuck and won't work. I don't know, that is just a wild guess, but the focus is stuck somewhere that is preventing the panel from unhiding. Does anyone have any ideas about what to check on this one? [opensuse-factory] Passwordless Access to Apps for Admins: sudo or kdesu for 11.2/kde4?

Listmates, For at least the past three releases there has been debate over how to handle passwordless access admins in the kde desktop. In kde43.b1 I still haven't found a way get passwordless access to yast, and kde system settings admin tasks (in fact in SysSettings there isn't a way to even get to the admin tasks), etc. The ~/.kde4/share/config/kdesurc is basically empty: 11:17 alchemy:~> cat ~/.kde4/share/config/kdesurc [Passwords] Keep=true In this configuration, the problem is (rightly so) that the root password isn't kept for the desktop session resulting in an admin having to repeatedly enter the root password for every different app started. (the root pw is cached on a per app basis) So you can start yast, enter the password, quit yast and then restart yast without a pw for that session, but if you want to start konqueror as root, you have to reenter the root pw for kdesu for konqueror. The only way I have found to make things workable is to use the kwriteconfig hack that has been disfavored. Basically, the kwriteconfig fix modifies kdesurc to set superuser as sudo with: kwriteconfig --file kdesurc --group super-user-command --key super-user- command sudo which results in kdesurc modified as follows: 13:41 alchemy:~> cat ~/.kde4/share/config/kdesurc [Passwords] Keep=true [super-user-command] super-user-command=sudo The consequence, of course, is that kdesu is disabled/broken by setting superuser to sudo (but the apps work without a password!) Attempting to use kdesu after the sudo change results in a crash: "kdesu -c konqueror" results in a SegFault Signal 11 crash. For 11.2 what will be the plan for giving admins passwordless access to applications requiring root privileges? Will it be sudo or kdesu? If it is kdesu what fix will be made to provide access without a password? Has anyone thought through the issue and made a decision? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. [opensuse-factory] Sound and Yast2

I have setup the sound system via yast2>hardware>sound and then did as test proving it is working. Great no problem, However, every once in a while it forgets the sound is working. KDE reports correctly that the sound is not working. To fix the problem I need to rerun yast2. Rerun test and it works.
