[opensuse-factory] Features list for 11.2 and YaST webpin client status
Hi all ;-) In according to progress of new features for 11.2 (outgoing from http://en.opensuse.org/BrainStorming_Prague#Features_are_not_known.2C_they_a re_not_documented.2C_thus_not_used_and_integrated.2C_...), they are not known yet. It would be great to have some list, at least implemented features with status, for example in openSUSE Weekly News (and of course they´d be updated), so we can test them. And i´d like to ask how is the progress with implementation of YaST webpin client. If i´m not wrong, the last mention is a couple of month old (http://hedgehogpainter.livejournal.com/4686.html), but nothing news. So, when can we definitely expect that it will be available in YaST for testing? -- S pozdravom / Best regards, Rasto -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

YaST webpin client is implemented and available for quite some time already (type 'yast2 webpin_package_search' in the console if you want to test ), it is just not integrated with the rest of YaST. That is, neither does it have its icon in control centre(s) nor there is any menu in package selector from where it could be launched. I was simply unable to find means of integration that would be acceptable for everyone (except for rewriting the whole thing to C++ for which we have no resources). Moreover, I got an impression that hardly anyone is interested in this feature (non-web YaST is not cool and in anymore) so why bother ... So you won´t implement it. It remains only to use a little trick. Never mind, but it seemed to be an useful feature for some people ;-) http://www.opensuse.cz/kategorie/tipy-triky/webpin-vyhladavac-v-yast-e-pre-o pensuse-11-1-0 Thanks for your answer. -- S pozdravom / Best regards, Rasto -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

How can people become interested in something they know nothing about? I just tried it and I am interested in it, but it should be able to be run from the desktop as a separate package. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

In the German computer magazine c't (Heft 8/09), there recently was a question in the "Hotline" section asking how to find files in packages that are not installed[0], like urpmf of Mandriva. And even the answerer of the c't did not know that "webpin -c" would do the trick. Perhaps because webpin is not installed by default and not even in the default repositories, or because it is not possible within the YaST GUI. Additionally, the web search is not capable of searching for file names.
