Hi All, There was old topic, but I decided to create a new one, to stay focused. I have a proposal package review - and proposal package review procedure. Example package review: =============================================== "iperf" - IP Performance benchmark Description: Iperf is a tool to measure maximum TCP bandwidth, allowing the tuning of various parameters and UDP characteristics. Iperf reports bandwidth, delay jitter, datagram loss. This package is in OBS. [opensuse-factory] The KDE way for openSUSE 11.1

Just my 2ct's. As a former windows user I can use KDE 3.5.10 without a problem. KDE 4.1 is a whole new ballgame! Of course I will get used to it in time but I think keeping 3.5.10 around in the Opensuse release is a lot better for new users switching from the likes of Vista or XP. Everyday users who know the desktop the way it is in 3.5.10 and not 4.1. Also, not knowing anything about programming and things I cannot contribute as much as other people. A thought thou is that is it not possible to add a network install to get 3.5.10 onto the DVD? Say, install a basic gui that will allow you to set-up your network and repositories and then download all you need for 3.5.10? [opensuse-factory] pim and kmail 1.10.0 crashing on paste to message body

Right, and I wish I could copy and paste the version string over, but alas ... So here we go: KMail Version 1.10.0 Using KDE 4.1.1 (KDE 4.1.0 (4.1 >= 20080722)) "release 26.5" I'm on opensuse11 but I had added the KDE4 factory repo because the initial kde4 sucked so much. Is this mix inherently broken or can something be done? I can't/won't use bugzilla, btw. Hope this is okay. Answer: This package is different. It is more configurable GUI-wise. OpenSSH lacks GUI. Answer2: Windows Admins know Putty. Some of them are using Windows Desktop (+putty)+Linux servers. [opensuse-factory] Contrib: Rare/specific packages review

Hi All ! Next question on topic is: How-to review rare/specific packages ? Such as: "dot2tex" That recently arrived here as candidate: http://en.opensuse.org/Contrib/packages I have zero knowledge in both formats, so I feel like a pig in oranges :) I think the only review that can be done in such cases, is the home page URL (upstream), license, and hope for the better... Alternatively ask Novell guys. But whom ? [opensuse-factory] Samba Suggestion

Hey guys, Would it be possible to add a definition in the samba server module for "workgroup" host. [opensuse-factory] icon of networkmanager still appears in systray in KDE4.1

Hi all. Although networkmanager isn´t running and i quit it in systray, after restart icon of networkmanager appears again in systray. Is it feature or bug? If it would be feature, my question is, why should icon be launched in systray, if i don´t use networkmanager? I´m on Alpha2 and KDE 4.1.1 (KDE 4.1.0 (4.1 >= 20080722)) "release 17". [opensuse-factory] Status openSUSE distribution

Hi everyone, since it's Hackweek this week at Novell, there isn't much news on the openSUSE distribution. However, as we didn't release any openSUSE LiveCDs with Alpha2 last week, I'll try to publish Factory-based LiveCDs (aka. Alpha2plus) later this week. Failing packages count is still quite hight (~139 on both i386 and x86_64). How are people feeling about Alpha2? What are you experiences? Best, Christoph -- Christoph Thiel, Tech. [opensuse-factory] wireless network missing

Hi, I am using factory and have a wireless problem. I am running a MacBook and with OS X I have no problem connecting to a network. It is not hidden or anything. But with openSUSE the network is just not there (neither iwlist nor nm-tool) other networks are there. I have an atheros card and tried both the madwifi and the ath5k driver. But the network is not seen by openSUSE, the link quality in OS X is close to perfect. I can connect to other networks without a problem. Any idea what to try? I do not have acess to administrate the AP unfortunately...
