[opensuse-factory] Making space for yast-gtk

Hey there, I understand that you guys don't go with Yast-GTK by default (the package selector should still be loved for a bit longer :)), but it would be nice if you did the needed arrangement to /sbin/yast2, so if people choose to install it and are using Gnome/XFCE, that frontend is used. You need to start by adding a check_gtk function to /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/yast2-funcs. Just copy check_qt and change the value of Y2_QT to $plugindir/libpy2gtk.so.2 . You probably also want to rename that variable. ;) The /sbin/yast2 on factory is probably different than the one from 10.1, since that one is ugly and there is even an indication that reads "TODO: (...) refactor after release". In any case, one just needs to search for "qt" and hack there. You are probably already doing this, no? It would also be cool if you could ship with a yast-gtk rpm somewhere in the cds, so people could install it easy. [opensuse-factory] installing fglrx 8.29.6

Has anyone successfully installed the new ati driver fglrx 8.29.6? After the failure with the last ati driver, 8.28.8, I tried to install the driver released today. After issuing the command sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx sax2 starts it's own xserver, but does not display any window. With the command aticonfig --initial I was able to modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf so that the fglrx driver is used. After a restart the boot process stops right before the kdm logon screen should be displayed. [opensuse-factory] download.opensuse.org and dead/old mirrors

Hi, how does the download.opensuse.org redirector deal with dead/unmaintained mirrors? I just tried to check for Factory updates by downloading this file http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-source/media.… and was redirected to this mirror: http://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/ftp.opensuse.org/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-… The mirror is obviously useless, the media file is totally outdated (20060616083724), a repodata directory does not exist and most of the RPM subdirectories are almost empty. Would it be possible to enhance the redirector by auto-detecting such broken mirrors? 1. Would it be practical to develop a dummy update that could be applied with YOU and or 'Software Updater'? 2. Can we have the 'Software Updater' correctly identify itself? When the cursor is placed over the Icon it simply says 'There are nn software updates available' 3. [opensuse-factory] Mouse cursors

Hello everybody, In Firefox, while loading a URL (e.g. a opensuse factory repository package list) the pointer looks like the standard and boring black x11 pointer (in the standard size) with a little watch to indicate the ongoing loading. On any other occasion the mouse pointer just looks fine (with the little shadow and the right symbol etc.) I selected the whiteglass pointer theme in gnome. I am not sure, if that is a bug or if I missed somehing during installation or if it is supposed to be like that. To be sure I picked some other pointer themes available in different sizes and it is all the same. I searched bugzilla but couldn't clearly link any known defect to that. Am I the only one who recognizes that? Am I doing something wrong? If any log- or config-file or other information could be of help - let me know, so I can post that as well. This occurs on my system for quite some time (several weeks), so it is not a new issue. But as everything else works (or doesn't work :) as expected and there was a major update today on factoryI thought it worth mentioning it now to the list and ask for support and input. Hello, After todays update from factory I have a sever problem. I can't su anymore from the gnome-terminal. The message I get is: su: nscd_initgroups.c:94: __nscd_getgrouplist: Assertion `initgr_resp->ngrps > 0' failed. After boot I login as root to the console (because of a bug, which I can't currently find any more gdm is not started at boot-time even though status says that runlevel 5 is reached) and start xdm Because of https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=206963 I start xdm (and not gdm) Then in a gnome-terminal window I start "metacity &" because of https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=204744 If I enter su in the terminal window the above mentioned error message occurs and the su command is not successful. mbrasse@sandmann:~> metacity & [1] 4372 mbrasse@sandmann:~> su Password: su: nscd_initgroups.c:94: __nscd_getgrouplist: Assertion `initgr_resp->ngrps > 0' failed. [opensuse-factory] Package numbering issue

Hi, Sometimes, when a package is rebuilt against a new version of a given library, it's version number isn't increased. This results with missing dependencies problem. As an illustration, lftp-3.5.4-5 dated September 15th was linked against the libgnutls.so.12 library. The gnutls package was updated to gnutls-1.4.1-3 on September 19th replacing the libgnutls.so.12library by the libgnutls.so.13 one. lftp was also rebuilt against the new libgnutls.so.13library to take into account this change but was unfortunately still numbered 3.5.4-5. Thus, the new gnutls-1.4.1-3 package couldn't be installed, because the already installed lftp-3.5.4-5 would miss the libgnutls.so.12 library. The only solution was to perform a rpm -Uvh --force on the lftp-3.5.4-5 to replace the one linked against the libgnutls.so.12library. Other packages exhibit the same issue (some gnome 2.16 packages at this time) and it's very difficult to determine if the bugs I'm experiencing on my system are due to missing updates because the package revision hasn't been changed. Is there something wrong with the openSUSE building system? Cheers, Emeric

This isn't user friendly to say the least * Adding a Bluetooth modem (well, GPRS connection) requires manual editing of conf files as well as a command line. This is also not very user friendly. The first one will be simpler to fix for someone who knows the YaST code base (I'm a programmer, but still haven't gotten around to checking out YaST.. should probably do that though...). It basically requires a UI to scan for devices and another one to connect to a device. The command line for connecting a Bluetooth mouse is basically: hidd --search (neeed for some odd reason...) hidd --connect bdaddr It just works after that, and only needs to be done once. Hi, just a quick update what we're doing with java now: - we build everything on ix86 and x86_64 with sun java 1.5 (one additional reason I was completely unaware of is that this is the only version included in the opensuse distribution and that we want our user to be able to rebuild the java packages we ship with the java SDK package we ship) - we build everything with -target 1.4 to ensure compatibility with free java runtimes.
