hidden comments in Bugzilla and no fix for testing and no timing for the fix?

Amongst others I have reported bug 148210. It got marked as fixed (no fix provided, so I cannot verify the fix). I find not only this strange but also there are comments missing like #46, #48 and #49. Moreover there is no entry in which milestone it got fixed. Does someone now if this common policy for an "Open"SUSE product, so reporters and contributors get no idea how the bug got fixed (or if it got really fixed at all)? FMF

older versions in Factory repository ?

Finally managed to get YaST Software Management working (rug still bombing out when trying to add factory, bug raised), when I installed Beta 8, I was just getting media exception errors (bug raised) on gwdg.de and uni-heidelberg.de. Today I managed to add uni as a repository source and went to look to see what had been updated, some packages, such as Windowmaker are older than what was on the Beta 8 CD's and everything else has the same version. It doesn't look like a single core package has been updated according to YaST. Is this really the case or should I raise a bug on this? Dave P.S. I own a apple g4 cube, i installed opensuse 10.0 before, but it s from beta version of 10.1 that I get kernel panic on booting while tries modprobe sbp2 concerning ieee1394 ochi1394. I googled but I can t find any similar question about it. Is this a known kernel isuses?

java on PPC

Hello, What is the status of Java on PPC? I filed a bugreport about it ( https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=121964 ) without much response at the end. There are a lot of packages, which are included on PPC, but I was unable to install due to lack of Java. Could the good old IBM Java 1.4.2 be included again in 10.1, as it was in 10.0 at least in the inst-source-extra section? Bye, CzP

beta8 kernel unstable?

Default Root Partition Size

Just a word of warning regarding the new default partition sizes suggested by YaST. I have a 10GB root partition on my laptop and just went to install IBM Rational Software Architect. The install files take up around 2.5GB of space and the installed program itself takes another 2GB (I eliminated some of the options I didn't need) I could have extracted the install images into another partition, but I took the default of /root/IBM/install_images... which meant there wasn't enough space left to actually install the software... If you are planning on installing any major programs like the Rational suite on your system be very careful about your partitioning scheme when installing. I think the combined Rational sweet, for example runs to in excess of 5GB and wants to install itself to /opt. On my laptop, with Gnome, KDE, the developer packages, Kernel source, OO.o etc. takes up around 6GB with logs and temp files as well. Factory Media Exception Error

With Beta 6 I could see the Factory repository, even if I couldn't download much (about every third package seemed to be missing when I went to do updates :-( ), but with Beta 8, I can't add the factory repository. I've tried rug and YaST, but with opensuse.org, gwdg.de and uni-heidelberg.de I get a Media Exception error when adding the url :-( I thought at first that I was typing it incorrectly, so I browsed the repository with Firefox and copy and pasted the url across to YaST and rug, but both of them come up with a Media Exception either when creating the repository (YaST) or trying to install a package (rug). Is this a known problem with Beta 8? I did a search, but it didn't show any results for this... (Searching media exception, factory and yast). Gnome menu editor -- beginner's question, possible bug?

Hi, I have a question about how to modify the entries in the GNOME menu. While playing with beta8, I noticed my firefox seemed a bit slow to start up. From the release notes, it looks like there's possibly a pango issue, and I wanted to change the entry in my menus to start firefox with the environment variable set. When I tried to edit my GNOME menu, I found that the only modification I could make was whether an icon showed in the menu or not. Even as root. Is this how it is intended, or is this a bug? I'm primarily a KDE user and not as familiar with Gnome, so this is likely a lack of knowledge on my part. How do I edit or add an item in the Gnome menus? Fontconfig and Helvetica

I never seem to get caught up enough to get onto the SuSE factory program. I see a what I consider a bug in 10.0 that isn't in 9.3 and wonder if anyone else can tell me if it is known about and/or fixed for 10.1. On this work in progress http://mrmazda.no-ip.com/auth/Font/font-helvetica.html if you look in the 2nd table where I've mixed several other fonts in with Helvetica in pt sizes for comparison, in 9.3 both Konqueror and Firefox 1.5.0.1 render the font Nimbus Sans L when Helvetica is requested, as directed by the alias in /etc/fonts/fonts.conf. In 10.0 in Konqueror, the first sans-serif listed in the fonts.conf file's "Sans-serif faces" section is substituted instead, while that same substitution only happens in Firefox only when something other than the generic "sans-serif" is selected as a Firefox sans-serif preference. 9.2 behavior is more like 10.0 than 9.3. I've looked also at several other distros, and only 9.3 seems to be correctly behaving according to what fonts.conf seems to be prescribing. -- "Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the Lord."
