New release of xorg

hi i use suse 9.2 the new release of xorg is out... we can get it here: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/Xorg/Xorg-X11R6.8.2/i386/s… e92 i tried to add a new media in yast i choose ftp, typed: ftp.suse.com for the ftp server and: pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/Xorg/Xorg-X11R6.8.2/i386/suse92 for the folder... but yast don't accept that... are there any way to do the update of xorg via yast? thanks

X.Org 6.8.2 RPMs for SuSE 9.2 available

Hi X.Org 6.8.2 has been released. For an official press release see http://www.x.org/XOrg_Press_Releases/X11R6.8.2.html X.Org 6.8.2 RPMs for SuSE 9.2 (IA32 + AMD64) are now available for download. ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/Xorg/Xorg-X11R6.8.2 Currrently there are no plans to provide packages for older SUSE versions. Use the Source RPM to rebuild packages for older versions (untested!). * Installation instructions can be found in the README (also in this directory). * In case something goes wrong and you need to revert to the original X.Org 6.8.1 RPMs for SuSE 9.2, simply remove the new RPMs with rpm -e <pkg-name> --nodeps and install the old ones from your DVD/CDs with rpm -Uhv <pkg-name> again (RPMs are in /suse/<arch> on the DVD/CD). A package list is in the README. * SuSE specific changes since RC1: - reintroduced xf86/xshared/xdevel/xfntscl Provides for SuSE <= 9.2 SuSE specific changes since RC2: - added support for Intel 915GM (please give it a try; use "sax2 -r -m 0=i810" for configuration) - added compose cache (details for testing will follow) - fixed one powersave related problem - no longer set a blue background for kdm and gdm - xorg-x11-server requires now xorg-x11 (Xserver requires fonts) - no longer disable RenderAccel in radeon driver - Xserver modules are now stripped - added support for about 20 known and up to about 30 unkown nvidia Devices (use "sax2 -r -m 0=nv" for configuration) SuSE specific changes since RC3: - X11 modules are now stripped; makes xorg-x11-server and xorg-x11-server-glx packages much smaller - improved support for new nvidia devices - no longer switch from "fglrx" to "radeon" driver during update - 915GM support: Check the pixel clock choosen for a specific refresh rate against the maximally allowed pixel clock when choosing mode lines for VBESetVBEMode() and VESA BIOS version >= 3.0 * Please note that there won't be any installation or advanced support for these test packages. Dear listmembers, 1.) Resolution problem did anyone ever try to configure a small monitor on a system for someone having (temporarily ...) a large one connected? I found that despite all of my configuration attempts and my settings Xorg always started at 1600x1200 even though I adjusted the settings for 1024x768 at max. This can be very annoying. I saw this happen on a HP P1110 monitor with an ATI Radeon card in the PC. In contrast, when connecting only hsync and vsync, everything was fine - because no information about the monitor could be achieved. This seems a very "M$-ish" behaviour. I think it is *very* good if there is no way to set larger resolutions than the monitor can cope with - but I feel it is not as wise to stupidly ignore what the user is trying to adjust. This happened with a "standard" installation of 9.2. 2.) Stability issues on 9.2 I have a Tyan Tiger SMP mother board with a Radeon 9000 graphics card. When leaving the system alone with the screensaver "random" it fails within 1h to two days. The screen freezes, no mouse, no keyboard interaction possible. I found out that the system is still running, I can ssh to it. Then I see X eating up 99.9% of all system ressources. Killing the X server or doing a shutdown cures the situation. I upgraded to 6.8.2 rc 3 in the meantime, however, the effect remains the same. Apart from this the system cannot be brought out of sync with highest loads (running kernel compiles in an endless loop is without any problem using a terminal without X. Using only the "blank screen" screensaver reduces the problem, the freezes still happen, but in this case it takes several days for the system to freeze. I did not see anything "weird" within /var/log/messages or the xorg-logfiles. I could provide Xorg-logfiles and a "top" output when seing the screen lock; could anyone give me a commentary on this? Would this be the right list to post to?
