Intel 855GM - Green screen on bootup!

Greetings suse-xfree86 eGroup members, I have a Dell D505 Laptop, which runs both MS XP and SuSE 9.1 Pro. The machine has an Intel 855GM graphics chip, which i beleive is the source of the drama. I've had problems getting my system to boot up in anything but the basic 640 resolution. When I try to change it through Yast or Sax2 my system crashes with a green or blank screen. Sound familiar? SuSE 9.1 ATI 3.9.0 driver installation

I just installed the latest ATI driver from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/X/XFree86/ATI/suse91/fglrx/3… I had the previous version 3.7.6 of the driver installed but /usr/X11/bin/fgl_glxgears didn't work then - exited immediately with "Error: couldn't get fbconfig" It now works - on 1st installation attempt. I've posted about this before but here's what I did this time in case usefull to someone having trouble with this as I had. The data of my box - ATI 9600, ASUS A7N8X, AMD 2700 and SuSE 9.1 fully YOU updated including the lastest kernel kernel-source-2.6.5-7.75 kernel-default-2.6.5-7.75 a) First I removed Mesa rpm -e --nodeps XFree86-Mesa-devel-4.3.99.902-40 rpm -e --nodeps XFree86-Mesa-4.3.99.902-40 b) reboot c) I then installed the driver exactly as stated in the README. In addition but maybe not necessary I re-generated the /etc/X11/XF86Config running /usr/X11/bin/fglrxconfig - automatically getting the line Load "dri" as specified in 4) of the README. Noteworthy is maybe this line (allthough maybe already default) Option "UseInternalAGPGART" "no" d) reboot e) Lastly I installed the above removed Mesa packages from the DVD using YaST. I've attached a ksnapshot of the fgl_glxgears - a rotating cube of rotating gears - in reduced size. In it's natural size fully exposed it is showing 315 FPS with the box doing nothing else. Don't know if that's good or bad.

VNC remote administration uses wrong characters

Hi, we wanted to set up remote administration, especialyl remote login for all users, using the integrated VNC-Server. It works, except of one issue: Whenever a user presses "/" (SHIFT+7 on german keyboard layout, the setting for both clients and servers), the x-window emulation enters "?" instead. All other characters (even umlauts, for example) work ok. Do you have any idea where to fix that issue? Thank you very much for your help, Christopher Semturs, from Vienna

NVIDIA driver 1.0-5336 - Rotate

Hi, I've just acquired Suse 9.1 and installed the above-mentioned driver. The Suse people told me that to activate the rotate function I had to set the Option 'Rotate' in the XF86-Config to 'CW' or 'CCW'. Unfortunately that doesn't work. Could someone please tell me what I have to do so as to be able to rotate my monitor? I' d also like to know how to integrate that function into the tool in the systray which allows to change the resolution of my screen. Grateful for helpful hints Jürgen

ATI Rage LT Pro

Hi! After updating my notebook (Gericom Overdose 2 = Clevo 3100C) from SuSE 8.1 to 9.0, i recognized, that X is working inkorrect. Sax2 detect this Hardware: 1. ATI Mach64 LB an not as 3D Rage LT Pro 2. Display VESA 800x600@60Hz but it should be: 1. ATI 3D Rage LT Pro 2. --> LCD 1024x768@60Hz So i changed this and now: If i want to click a symbol at the desktop i have to move the cursor 2 cm below it and the cursor is mapped up to the top if i move it down to the panel. Does anyone know to solve this? The funny thing knoppix 3.1 and 3.2 are running without this effect. I'll try this settings later. Paul -- paul.mitterberger(a)gmx.net

Hello, I can't get 3d accelleration working in Suse 9.1, I'm using a radeon 9800 Pro 256MB card, did exactly as the suse site readme says and still no joy, running fglrxinfo still says mesa :( Any help is greatly appreciated!! ATI 3.9.0 drivers and Suse 9.1

Hi, Me and others have problems with the new 3.9.0 driver. If you can check the threads at rage3d forums you might be able to help us. First even though the drivers compile correcly when you modprobe them you get the following error: fglrx: no version for "struct_module" found: kernel tainted. fglrx: module license 'Proprietary. (C) 2002 - ATI Technologies, Starnberg, GERMANY' taints kernel. [fglrx] Maximum main memory to use for locked dma buffers: 681 MBytes. Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000000 printing eip: f2986d58 *pde = 00000000 Oops: 0002 [#1] It must be something with the regparm, which the drivers clame to support and in order to make the work you must apply a custom patch from here: http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33761546 Even though the drivers load with this patch, every time you run a GL app you get errors like these: kernel: Badness in do_no_page at mm/memory.c:1455 or kernel: Badness in copy_page_range at mm/memory.c:331 This seems to happen mostly is Suse 9.1 kernels and not to other distributions. What do you think is the problem? Thanks

You are quite right - I have SuSE 8 Standard Server and VNC comes pre-installed. I run the server and can connect from a PC client but I get another desktop - not the same one as the user of the Linux PC. In other words the user and myself are not seeing the same thiong. When I control the PC remotley I want the user to see the mouse moving and the WIndows opening etc. JH "Kristopher K. MS Windows Remote Desktop Protocol is similar in that it makes a new instance for you. You can run run a vnc viewer to connect to a vnc server on your linux box.
