Intel 855GM - Green screen on bootup!
Greetings suse-xfree86 eGroup members, I have a Dell D505 Laptop, which runs both MS XP and SuSE 9.1 Pro. The machine has an Intel 855GM graphics chip, which i beleive is the source of the drama. I've had problems getting my system to boot up in anything but the basic 640 resolution. When I try to change it through Yast or Sax2 my system crashes with a green or blank screen. Sound familiar? I'm new to linux. Can anyone in this group provide me with clear and simple guidance? Thanks for your assistance. Astamari Batekun --------------------------------- ALL-NEW Yahoo! Hello, I was having similar problems and was not able use my laptop's (Acer TM 291 LMi) native resolution 1400x1050. Both companies - Intel and Acer were not providing solutions for that. But thanks to all other people, who is trying to solve such problems and makes life easier for us :-) You should try to look here: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/apoirier/ and try to use this small software. It may help you, it worked for me and now I cat get 1400x1050 resolution running. Good luck, Cunami Ras Tewagi wrote:

List,
I had similar problems with my Compaq Proliant 5500 server (about 4 years
old now - 1Gig RAM and 4 x Pentium II processors) which has a Compaq built
in video card (not sure of exact brand now but it came with the machine).
Red Hat ran without problems but my SuSE 8 Standard Server also gives weird
screen colours and limited resolutions and will only run at 800 x 600. Even
then the graphics are pretty much a mess - but its workable. SuSE correctly
identifies the card so it is weird.
I am now running SuSE on a newer Compaq Pentium 4 desktop PC with an nVidia
GeForce 5200 Fx and it is fine. I just cannot load the nVidia 3D driver
from their website. SuSE dont seem to like it.
Go figure..
