Problems with resolutions on Intel 855GM chipset (i810 driver).

Hello to everyone, I'm using SuSE 9.0 on my Acer TM 291 LMi witch is having Intel 855 GM graphics chipset. Problem is that I cannot get working XFree with resolutions higher than 1280x1024. My machine's native is 1400x1050. I have read that there is some problem with i810 driver and bios, and wondering maybe somebody having similar problems already knows how to solve this? I was trying to find something using google but always everybody is talking about this problem and no solutions. Thanks, - Cunami

Problems with sax2 and my apm Bios

Hello, I wrote about my Problems with the ATI 9200SE more then one time, and until now I couldn't solve my problems. When I tested today some new hints I see a problem: I tried some other nearby Cards (ATI 9000 and 8500), because they have the same GPU or so. But when I want to do so sax2 don't want to test, because there is no file like: /dev/apm_bios Whats this? I've installed a standard Suse 9.0 with no extras on a Duron 1 GHz. Do I have to use another Kernel? Perhaps this will solve all my problems? Nimer

I have a strange problem with my new XFree installation. The computer here has a Sapphire Radeon 9600 card with VGA and DVI, and I got X up and running ok using the "radeon" driver (sax2 configured, with Suse 9.0, XFree 4.3.0.1). The monitor is an LCD, so I changed the cable from VGA to a DVI cable. This was no problem on the console and for the "other OS", but for X. startx and Sax2 now both end up with a monitor showing "No Signal Found" and I have to use crtl-alt-backspace to end this. The X logfile shows no error. compiling the kernel makes X go crazy

Hi all, I'm trying to make software suspend work on my Sony Vaio picture book (PCG-C1VE), so I needed to compile the kernel myself. I took vanilla 2.4.24 sources, patched them, compiled and everything is fine except the X and bootsplash. I also tried making the kernel from the SuSE sources (2.4.21), and with them everything works well apart from swsusp. I was not able to figure out how to apply the swsusp patches to them. The graphics card is ATI 3D Rage Mobility. Is there something obvious I do wrong when configuring the kernel? Thanks, Teemu

Installation of ATI 9200SE

Hello, once again I ask the question. I have read everything I can read about it and every time I try to install the drivers for the grafics adapter the same thing happens. When I run sax2 with the command: sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx -b /usr/X11R6/lib/sax/profile/firegl sax2 starts, the monitor gets white and then nothing happens and I have to reboot the computer. Can somebody help me? I think everything is OK. Today I tried the readme from suse with the 3.7.6 Version of the driver, and I use the DVI connection from the card to the monitor. Every help or hint will be helpfull, I havn't read about such a problem. Nimer

nVidia 3d troubles

I'm running an older nVidia TNT2 card on my 8.2 system. I'd like to actually get the 3d aspect of teh card working again (like it was under 7.3). I downloaded and ran the latest unified installer NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-1.0-5336-pkg1.run and ran it. I have a "nvidia.o" module in my /lib/modules/2.4.29-4GB/kernel/drivers/video directory. I've run xdpyinfo to see which extensions are loaded and this is the result: number of extensions: 28 BIG-REQUESTS DOUBLE-BUFFER DPMS Extended-Visual-Information FontCache LBX MIT-SCREEN-SAVER MIT-SHM MIT-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD NV-CONTROL NV-GLX RANDR RENDER SECURITY SHAPE SYNC TOG-CUP X-Resource XC-APPGROUP XC-MISC XFree86-Bigfont XFree86-DGA XFree86-Misc XFree86-VidModeExtension XInputExtension XKEYBOARD XTEST XVideo a few seem to be missing. I'm a bit stumped, and wondering if I ought to just upgrade teh video card with an MSI MX440-T8X and hope the nvidia drivers like that better. Any help would be appreciated. Blank screen w/GEForce FX 5200 AGP [SOLVED-mostly]

The monitor is a Samsung 17 LCD Round-a-bout, back-door, off-the-wall, mostly solved: Booted the 2004-02-16-EN knoppix and copied the XF86Config from knoppix to /etc/X11/... Rebooted into SuSE level 5 successfully with the nv driver. Did not try 'switch2nvidia' (time constraints). There is no 3D but the user does not play gaims. He does watch videos. He is happy but I am not. I believe that Yast2 should have been able to correctly configure the GeForce 5200 card with the Samsung LCD. I was tempted to reinstall from disk the video system, but ... 'sax2' and 'sax2 -m 0=nvidia' with and without an XF86Config present both present a *black* screen, usually fatal. GOOD NEWS: A 95% convert from windoz. He is using kde and finds his way around pretty good. He had some problems understanding 'mount' and the need to leave the device before 'umount'. He feels his computing is much more responsive (athlon 1800 512Mb) with linux than xp, and much safer. AND he is talking to his neighbors and friends. I may have made myself a full-time second job (unpaid). First job is spending my social security check buying premium $2/gal gas for my Harley <grin>.
