I've got OpenSuSe 11.3 with KDE 3 running on a Lenovo T61.
Whenever I click on a pdf file when I'm in Firefox the only options are to
save it or use GIMP.
I've set the file association for pdf applications to Okular and in Firefox I
tried to set the association to okular but all it sees is GIMP.
Can anyone tell me what's going on here?

Hello.
I'm happily running KDE3 on all my desktops and laptops now without any
problems. I'm very grateful to Illya and all the others who have maintained
our ability to use KDE3 on our computers.
Can anyone tell me if it is expected that the OpenSuse KDE3 repos will be
updated with material from the Trinity project? (I'm not suggesting you have
lots of spare time to do this, btw :-))
Second, is there anywhere that someone like me, who isn't a programmer, can
make a donation to the OpenSuse KDE3 project?
Are there other things we can do to assist?
Thanks again.

I inadvertently made a discovery with my kde3 version of kdepim. I used to be
somewhat concerned about the time it took to load my addressbook, since it
has more than 1800 names in it, and loading this slowed down the opening of
kontact considerably.
By creating a new addressbook as a file, binary type, and then importing all
my contacts to it, opening kontact is virtually instantaneous. What a
difference!
Bob.

did a fresh install of 12.1. started with kde4, added the kde3 repo, clicked
in the kde3 pattern, added a few more files, things seem just fine.ok,
browsing is fine, multimedia is fine, system seems very crispy, adding 32bit
hal did the trick for a few things, still can not get to pring to mu usb
printer thru the host in virtualbox but can if i allow direct access to it
from a vm, libreoffice comes up and seems to work fine, lifer seems fine!
time to move kmail.
copied the Mail folder from the old home directory, used conqueror as a super
user, then changed all the permissions to the correct user. Copied the
kmailrc file to the right spot, also the kmail folder from the
old .~kde/share/apps location.
Things seem to workat first. even the addressbook seems fine; alas, they work
too good. The longer kmail stays open, the more duplicate emails i get! some
i get more often than others! At this stage i am very reluctant to set the
flag to "remove the messages from the server", first need to find out what
part of kmail i broke.
the setup is reasonably simple. The isp is roadrunner, they run windoze pop
servers. my account has a total of 5 sub accounts. i have no local servers
installed, just the default setup. the emails are saved in maildir format.
The steps described above have worked for many many transitions in the past
any suggestions where to look ? I would hate to go to kmail for kde4 or switch
to anything else, it would be too traumatic for my honi.
soo, any help would be appreciated.
thanks in advance,,
d.

Ilya,
I haven't used kmail in 11.4, but needed to configure it and did. However,
sending mail in kmail or using kontact causes both to crash. The crash reports I
received are as follows:

what I have so far:

I'm trying to configure Bob S's system after installing 12.1. His vision has
gotten too bad to do initial installation himself any more. I've been looking
all over both KDE3 and Gnome for a way to get big mouse pointers, and am
having no luck. KControl->Peripherals->Mouse is void of anything to do with
sizes. I've tried alternate themes, including *accessible*, but all seem
stuck with the standard little mouse pointer and hand that are smaller than a
dried up lentil at high DPI. Any ideas?

ok, one more 12.1 question. kde3 was installed on top of kde4. everything
seems to work, except sound and there is no suspend option on the logout
menu, that is no suspend to ram and no suspend to disk. everything works w.
kde4, so the hardware is fine, what packages do i need to look closer at? is
the suspend problem due to the lack of the correct kdebase3? shutdown is
installed.
thanks,
d.

I have just noticed that there is something strange with the knetworkmanager-kde3 (on openSUSE 11.4 with the i586 architecture). I shut down my computer very seldom, usually I only hibernate and resume it for weeks, so that the processes it runs have tens or hundreds hours of cumulate time. Just now I noticed by means of "top" that knetworkmanager became the main memory consumer of the computer: 154 MB of resident memory (more than firefox!). Then I restarted the knetworkmanager, and now it again consumes about 10 MB, as usual. Maybe there is some memory leak?
By the way, knetworkmanager crashes sporadically (once a month?).
Best regards,
Michael

Hi,
I'm having a hard time accessing my imap accounts from a cyrus server with
kmail3 from KDE:KDE3 after upgrading to 12.1/x86_64. On access of certain
folders (even after removing folder and .folder* somewhere below
~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/imap/.account.directory), either the download simply
stops progressing, kio_imap4 occupies one core for hours until quitting
kmail, or the the download is interrupted and kmail shows a nice but useless
dialog about an unexpected transfer interuption caused from some programming
error..
Before complaining here, I tested different crypto settings, and checked, if
any patches made into kdepim3 lately, that might be responsible, but appart
from some clean up/build adjustments from Ilya, nothing stands out. The
senders current time indicator patch looks innocent.
The folders are perfectly accessible from other openSUSE installations, e.g.
11.1 and 11.4, all with KDE:KDE3, but this is my first serious x86_64
installation attempt. Hence I guess, it's either
* a gcc issue (although a gcc 4.3 build is forced, as kdepim3 isn't buildable
with 4.6)
* a 64 bit (protocol?) issue
* some kernel behavioral change (locking, network stack)
All ideas/confirmations welcome.
Pete
