I inadvertently made a discovery with my kde3 version of kdepim. I used to be somewhat concerned about the time it took to load my addressbook, since it has more than 1800 names in it, and loading this slowed down the opening of kontact considerably. By creating a new addressbook as a file, binary type, and then importing all my contacts to it, opening kontact is virtually instantaneous. What a difference!
