[opensuse-factory] problems with todays factory

Hi, i just did my biweekly factory update but now my system seems to be quiet messed up. Something is brocken in zypper all commands end with: # LANG=CC zypper ref Target initialization failed: rpmdb2solv -r '/' -p '/etc/products.d' > '/var/cache/zypp/solv/@System/solvnlW7Uo' repo_products: syntax error at line 1:0 and all GTK applications do not work because of: # thunderbird /usr/lib/thunderbird/thunderbird-bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libcairo.so.2: undefined symbol: pixman_region32_init Therefore I do not have nm-applet anymore ... Just to make everybody aware of it, will look into it tomorrow. [opensuse-factory] Zypper vs Yum: Lacking Features discussion

Hi All, I would like to discuss a bit about zypper and yum, and perhaps, open feature-requests. Yum is old Red Hat's technology while zypper is new SUSE's thing :) More seriously: -I have heard that yum has ability to show the package changelog diff for pacakges to be updated, while zypper lacks it -yum shows the repository from which the package will be installed. (Very useful if you have many repos with duplicate packages.) What do you think ? I just thought of 2 other things to mention in regard to 4.*. First, screen savers are limited, and 3d screen savers don't run correctly - often just in a small square window. Other times one will lock up the entire desktop. This on laptops with Intel video chipsets. The second is there's nolonger a list of most used apps. [opensuse-factory] Sun Java in the NON-OSS Repo

Hi, Yesterday I was fscing a 'problem' where I had to connect using our SSL/VPN solution to the corporate network (using a Juniper SSL/VPN). I logged in to the webportl, and then to initiate the real connection, a java applet is started that installs the client and connects to the network. Unfortunately, this applet is not working with the existing 1.7 and 1.6 openjdks that are provided at this moment in Factory. I had to revert to a sun version (grabbed it from an 11.0 non-oss repo). Could we keep the Java versions in the non-oss repo, until the new, open versions provide all the functionality required? This would be awesome!
