Hello,
I wanted to introduce two new packages to Factory:
- zenith: https://github.com/bvaisvil/zenith/tree/master
- lychee: https://github.com/lycheeverse/lychee
I think both would be nice additions to the already rich package base,
besides both being written in one of my favorite languages, Rust :-)))
The submission request will come in between this evening and tomorrow
morning.
Special thanks to Martin Sirringhaus that helped me a lot figuring out
weird things happening with the build of zenith :-)

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
My excuse to span two weeks in this report is quite simple: last week
was the openSUSE Conference in Nuremberg and I spent my time talking to
all the fun people from the community instead. And I am sure you are
forgiving me for this. With the conference in full swing and weekends
in between, it is quite amazing that the release Team (mostly Ana these
days) still managed to produce and publish 12 snapshots (0620, 0621,
0622, 0624, 0625, 0627, 0628, 0629, 0701, 0702, 0703, and 0704)
The most relevant changes from these snapshots include:
* GDB 14.2
* MariaDB 11.4.2
* Mesa: work around broken graphics on ATI/AMD chipsets, Version
24.1.2
* Shadow 4.16.0
* Wayland 1.23.0
* KDE Plasma 6.1.0, 6.1.1 & 6.1.2
* GCC 14.1.1
* Qt 6.7.2
* Linux kernel 6.9.6 (fixing connection issues with iwlwifi) & 6.9.7
* NetworkManager 1.48.2
* ClamAV 1.3.1
* GNOME 46.3
* GStreamer 1.24.5
* Perl 5.40.0
* LLVM 18.1.8
* Poppler 24.07.0
* Qemu 9.0.1
* Systemd 255.8
* Cups 2.4.10
* Samba 4.20.2
* PyTest 8.2.2
* openssh fix against CVE-2024-6387, aka RegreSSHion
Quite an impressive list in just 2 weeks I’d say. At least in the
northern hemisphere, the summer holiday is starting (including my own –
so no reports from me for the next two weeks! Please follow the
individual snapshot release announcements on the
factory(a)lists.opensuse.org mailing list). With many people enjoying a
break, we will likely see fewer requests going to Tumbleweed.
Looking at what is currently to be found in the staging area, we can
predict those changes to happen in the next few days/weeks:
* Mesa 24.1.3
* Mozilla Firefox 127.0.2
* LibreOffice: fix excessive recommends on libreoffice-qt6
* Agama packages and installer to appear. Not yet QA’ed as part of
the Tumbleweed release process, but feel free to test and play with it
* KDE Gear 24.05.2
* SELinux 3.7
* cmake 3.30.0
* transactional-update: enable soft reboot; see
https://microos.opensuse.org/blog/2024-06-13-soft-reboot/
* dbus-broker: some networking issue after upgrades left to work out
* GCC 14: phase 2: use gcc14 as the default compiler – lots of help
needed:
https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/openSUSE:Factory:Staging:Gcc7
Cheers,
Dominique

Hello,
Would it be possible for someone to update ZNC in factory from 1.9.0 to 1.9.1? There is a remote code execution vulnerability present in ≤ 1.9.0 within the modtcl module.

==== python-Twisted ====
Version update (23.10.0 -> 24.3.0)
Subpackages: python311-Twisted python311-Twisted-tls
- update to 24.3.0:
* twisted.logger.formatEvent now honors dotted method names,
not just flat function names, in format strings, as it has
long been explicitly documented to do. So, you will now get
the expected result from formatEvent("here's the result of
calling a method at log-format time: {obj.method()}",
obj=...)
* twisted.web.http.HTTPChannel now ignores the trailer headers
provided in the last chunk of a chunked encoded response,
rather than raising an exception.
* twisted.protocols.tls.BufferingTLSTransport, used by default
by twisted.protocols.tls.TLSMemoryBIOFactory, was refactored
for improved performance when doing a high number of small
writes.
* twisted.python.failure.Failure now throws exception for
generators without triggering a deprecation warnings on
Python 3.12.
* twisted.internet.process.Process, used by
reactor.spawnProcess, now copies the parent environment when
the env=None argument is passed on Posix systems and
os.posix_spawnp is used internally.
* twisted.internet.defer.inlineCallbacks.returnValue's stack
introspection was adjusted for the latest PyPy 7.3.14
release, allowing legacy @inlineCallbacks to run on new PyPY
versions.
* twisted.trial.reporter.TestRun.startTest() is no longer
called for tests with skip annotation or skip attribute for
Python 3.12.1 or newer. This is the result of upstream Python
gh-106584 change. The behavior is not change in 3.12.0 or
older.
- drop twisted-pr12054-testinvokationpy3.12.1.patch,
stop-using-3-arg-throw.patch (upstream)

Hello everyone !
I am pleased to share a tool I have developed which aims to regroup useful
commands dealing with the Unified Kernel Image (UKI) project: "*Unified
Kernel Image Tool (UKIT or UKI-Tool)*".
Sources can be found at this address
*https://github.com/keentux/unified-kernel-image-tool
<https://github.com/keentux/unified-kernel-image-tool> *. It is a project
written exclusively in Shell which helps and regroups the Unified Kernel
Image development and deployment (packaging). It provides some commands:
- *create*: Uses Ukify to generate PCR keys and an UKI made by a pre-build
static-initrd and Kernel
- *extension*: Generate well formatted extensions to be used with a
specific UKI.
- *grub2: *Create bootloader entry for grub2 to load a specific UKI
- *sdboot*: Generate bootloader entry for sdboot
- *addon*: Generate addons with ukify to extend the kernel CMDLINE, useful
for snapshots
The package has been submitted into *Kernel:tools* OBS project, and will be
needed to create the main UKI package that will provide a built UKI from
packaging.
All the best,

Since 2024-06-17 (see boo#1226445 https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1226445) new Mesa 3D is not available for openSUSE Leap. That means newer GPUs (including iGPUs in new CPUs) cannot work with Leap.
Previously it was possible to use new hardware with openSUSE Leap by getting Mesa 3D packages from X11:XOrg repo and new kernel from kernel:stable repo.
Mesa 3D packages: https://software.opensuse.org/package/Mesa
Will Mesa 3D packages be available from X11:XOrg repository for Leap?
