Migration of docs to
https://opensuse.github.io/openSUSE-docs-revamped-temp/index.html
are we in scope?
Adrien > The migration initiative is documented here:
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Documentation_migration) . Its scope
is defined by several conditions, but in a nutshell, it corresponds to
a surface area in Tumbleweed, and common between Tumbleweed and Leap,
that is fundamentally important for a new user. Examples: yast,
snapper, zypper, btrfs, repositories and updates management, desktop
environments, workflow basics.. The full table of contents can be found
at https://opensuse.github.io/openSUSE-docs-revamped-temp/.
Do we want to support the effort? Is there any existing expectation
from the release team?
So far it seems to be related only to desktop experience related docs.
Confirmation regarding scoping would be nice.
Namely (just a small subset that comes to my mind that I need to bump
every year)
Tasks:
https://github.com/openSUSE/openSUSE-release-process/blob/master/Alpha.md#c…
https://github.com/openSUSE/openSUSE-release-process/blob/master/GA.md#upda… (and few other tasks on the list) aside from these listed in the
github there is also few others (todo add them to git)
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Packaging_for_Leap

https://en.opensuse.org/Feature_Planning_15.4
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:How_to_migrate_to_SLE

Adrien > To the best of my understanding, no item on the list is in the
scope of the previously mentioned migration initiative. lkocman: Thank
you Adrien!
TODO: 15.3 - SElinux won't boot without selinux policy
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1187326
I have to look into this seems SLE disabled feature in skelcd-control
files. We will most likely have to supply the policy, but that will
only work with enabled updates. (Release notes entry needed).
SP3 selinux-policy seems to have a working fix for SLE, so we could
most likely reuse it. TODO check this.
Advertise https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features this on factory as a
place to raise RFEs or larger efforts for the release.
15.3 Quarterly update setup is still in TODO
Discussed
Leap 15.4 roadmap was published at
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Roadmap
Review of the openSUSE-release-process happened last Friday (Max,
Dominique, lkocman)
## openSUSE Tumbleweed
dleuenberger on FTO - from August 9 - 20 - Richard is covering
* TW is rolling, but mostly unspectacular changes.
* Reviews were sporadic but after an email to the review team they seem
to be flowing quite well at the moment
* glibc 2.34 staged - still ~27 failures
* systemd 249 is in staging, broke two tests, waiting on the maintainer
to confirm whether or not the issue is worth blocking further
* kernel 5.13.9 with UsrMerge support in staging
## Richard (Kubic/TW MicroOS)
k8s versions 1.22.0 is on the way
container-selinux with integrated k3s support from upstream is otw -
should facilitate k3s-with-selinux without third party RPMs in the
future.
Working on adding k3s-install to Kubic, a curated version of the
Rancher k3s installation script that negates the need to curl random
shell scripts from the internet.
MicroOS team is concerned that the 'revamped docs' are overlapping and
incorrect the official MicroOS docs at https://microos.opensuse.org.
There does not seem to be a willingness to correct that issue
## Max
* Working on obsoleted binary finder -
https://github.com/openSUSE/openSUSE-release-process/issues/75 and
https://github.com/openSUSE/openSUSE-release-process/issues/74, the
output
https://github.com/nilxam/leap_development/blob/master/scripts/obsoletes_pa…
from my script(
https://github.com/nilxam/leap_development/blob/master/scripts/obsoletes_fi…
) looks sensible, the next step is merging the result to
NON_FTP_PACKAGES.group - a filter list in 000package-groups which will
be loaded for pkglistgen
* Thanks to Adrian, local repository is fixed after tweaked local limit
filter rules for Leap 15.4. A succees Leap 15.4 product build appeared.
* TTM for 15.4 is enabled
* Will prepare a PR to add Leap 15.4 sync_config to openQA
## Guillaume - Arm
Will be on FTO - from 9th to 27th of August.
Tumbleweed:
* installation-images:* are broken for Arm since last update. A fix
is in system:install:head/installation-images and will be forwarded to
Factory.
* Fix for btrfs support in u-boot is on the way to Factory:
https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/909899
Leap 15.3:
* Armv7: Is good enough to release officialy. The maintenance setup
is problematic, so we may not freeze and need to keep a rolling release
model. Any opinion?
WSL: Stalled: WIP to have WSL on aarch64 on
https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:Guillaume_G:WSL
todo: lkocman to write a blog post how
We have a WSL feature for 15 SP4 to have all SUSE/openSUSE images
installed from outside of the store "adopt the new behavior". Therefore
we wouldn't have to build the WSL-DistroLauncher image any more.
## Sarah - s390x
* Problems were with Tumbleweed releases because of kernel bug in
several packages (
cross-epiphany-gcc11-bootstrap and gcc):
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1188896
* Blocking packages have been killed. New Tumbleweed release should be
tested today.
* 7 VMs ordered after the offer to receive long-term (not only 120
days) VMs in the LinuxONE Community Cloud (pre-installed SLES), which
can be upgraded to openSUSE (there is an unofficial documentation for
this on wiki).
-> All VMs will be assigned to Sarah's account and she will forward
the long-term access to the team
* bi-weekly training sessions tor topics as mainframes,
containerization, packaging:
First session today:
https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/zsystems@lists.opensuse.org/messag…
* Next training session today about Technical view on the
mainframe architecture
## Doug
FTO - from August 2 - 14 (will be availalbe for sprint, Summit and
Nest. hopefully I have good internet ;-)

## Wolfgang (Package Hub), Scott Bahling
A proposal to move all SLE forks to subpackages module/prouduct
https://github.com/openSUSE/openSUSE-release-process/issues/71 This
would then fix our problem with submit requests not being forwarded to
the correct origin.
GAP was removed completly from openSUSE:Backports:SLE-15-SP4 (and
therefore from Leap 15.4)
Looking into migration scenarious from Leap to SLE that SUSE might
support
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:System_upgrade - Covers also migration from
Leap X.Y to SLE X.Y
## Maintenance team (Marina or Marcus)
Marina: the rpm version update for 15.3 is ready to be released. We are
just waiting for SUMA team before releasing it. This release could
trigger a lot of rebuilds ;)
Ongoing interactions between maintenance and PackageHub teams. Quite
some good ideas on improvements.
Info: Marina FTO on weeks 33 and 34.
Q for maintenance team:
https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features/issue/26 would this result into
increased load on maint team?
Marina: The first thing on my mind is a load for QA Team (Heiko). +Most
likely a one time setup for maint. team.
lkocman: Light touch on the topic to display status of SLES updates to
community. We can try to find the way to export the data.
MArcus: Generally could be possible, but we need to explicitly avoid
exposing embargoed security issues to the outside. Also review IP/NDA
updates where the schedule is not public.
Marcus: is there any update on the Leap 15.3 respins. lkocman:
Unfortunatelly no, it's currently blocked on me.
## Adrian - CtLG or openSUSE Step
Back from vacation
All covered in comments above.
Adrian: I had to fix issues in product builder so we won't end up in
situation where srpm is missing. We've had this issue by glibc (this
would otherwise violate GPL). This would be another reason to rebuild
ftp trees.
How do we reference to CODE 15. 15.3 was the result of our survey.

I've been maintaining it for some time, but I don't actually use it.
If some user wishes to take over, please reply. It has been remarkably problem-free so far.

Hi all,
I've been (co-)maintaining the bluez package, which contains the linux
bluetooth stack, for openSUSE since about 15 years, but now I realize
that it deserves a maintainer that does actually use the stuff.
I now noticed, after Dominique hinted me at severe issues with a
seemingly trivial update in
https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/902427#comment-1482547, that I
am actually not using any bluetooth hardware since almost two years.
This makes me not that well suited as the maintainer of the bluez
package IMVHO.
Advertising blurb follows ;-)
Package maintainance is usually low-effort: you watch out for new
releases, update the tarball, check if patches are still needed and do
still apply and you are done.
Upstream code quality is very good, regressions like the current one are
really the exception and the upstream community is helpful (if you know
how to write a good bugreport and provide the necessary information ;-).
But it certainly would be good if someone who is actually using the
software would take a look at the stuff.
As an extra bonus, there is also Al Cho who from SUSE side co-maintains
the package and does stuff like security fixes etc, so you are not alone
if you dare to take on this challenge :-)
I'm not going away and I will keep updating the package in my current
modus operandi, which means "do the version updates, keep it building
and submit it to Factory" if nobody steps up and takes over, but I
certainly won't be able to process most of the bug reports (I actually
have not been really looking at bug reports for almost a year) and the
package will only be maintained in a "it builds, let's ship it!" sense.
If you want to take over, I'll of course also try to help in the future
if questions about "WTF do we carry this patch?" or "what has he been
thinking when doing this crazy thing in the spec file?" arise.
Best regards,
seife

Hi,
I've made some progress on packaging the AMD AOMP stack [1]. Current version is
based on the latest release [2] from AMD (13.0-5). It contains support for
runtime and offline opencl, openmp, hip and fortran.
To simplify packaging I've added a conflict with libopencl so other opencl
implementations cannot exist simultaneously. AOMP also provides it's own version
of clinfo.
The example programs at [3] runs fine so this should be in line with how AMD
packages AOMP themselves.
I've tried some opencl applications and the results vary. Luxmark runs fine but
Blender is hit or miss, though newer demo-files with Blender 2.93 seems to work
fine. Actually, after some more testing, most of them renders fine.
Navi1x (gfx1010, RX 5000 series) only works with runtime opencl and nothing else.
Navi2x (gfx1030, RX 6000 series) OTOH might work since the libdevice files
actually exists for them. Unfortunately I don't have hardware to test with.
If there are no outstanding issues I'm going to submit a request for inclusion
in Factory.

https://www.php.net/ChangeLog-7.php#7.4.22
==== bash ====
Version update (5.1.4 -> 5.1.8)
Subpackages: bash-doc bash-lang
- Use a get_version_number.sh script
- Get patch lvl by running command to find it instead of hardcoding
- Remove old SUSE RPM constructs
- Clean spec file
==== bind ====
Version update (9.16.18 -> 9.16.19)
Subpackages: bind-doc bind-utils python3-bind
- Update to 9.16.19
* A race condition could occur where two threads were
competing for the same set of key file locks, leading to
a deadlock. This has been fixed. [GL #2786]
* create_keydata() created an invalid placeholder keydata
record upon a refresh failure, which prevented the
database of managed keys from subsequently being read
back. This has been fixed. [GL #2686]
* KASP support was extended with the "check DS" feature.
Zones with "dnssec-policy" and "parental-agents"
configured now check for DS presence and can perform
automatic KSK rollovers. [GL #1126]
* Rescheduling a setnsec3param() task when a zone failed
to load on startup caused a hang on shutdown. This has
been fixed. [GL #2791]
* The configuration-checking code failed to account for
the inheritance rules of the "dnssec-policy" option.
This has been fixed. [GL #2780]
* If nsupdate sends an SOA request and receives a REFUSED
response, it now fails over to the next available
server. [GL #2758]
* For UDP messages larger than the path MTU, named now
sends an empty response with the TC (TrunCated) bit set.
In addition, setting the DF (Don't Fragment) flag on
outgoing UDP sockets was re-enabled. [GL #2790]
* Views with recursion disabled are now configured with a
default cache size of 2 MB unless "max-cache-size" is
explicitly set. This prevents cache RBT hash tables from
being needlessly preallocated for such views. [GL #2777]
* Change 5644 inadvertently introduced a deadlock: when
locking the key file mutex for each zone structure in a
different view, the "in-view" logic was not considered.
This has been fixed. [GL #2783]
* Increasing "max-cache-size" for a running named instance
(using "rndc reconfig") did not cause the hash tables
used by cache databases to be grown accordingly. This
has been fixed. [GL #2770]
* Signed, insecure delegation responses prepared by named
either lacked the necessary NSEC records or contained
duplicate NSEC records when both wildcard expansion and
CNAME chaining were required to prepare the response.
This has been fixed. [GL #2759]
* A bug that caused the NSEC3 salt to be changed on every
restart for zones using KASP has been fixed. [GL #2725]

==== libzypp ====
Version update (17.27.0 -> 17.28.0)
- Rephrase vendor conflict message in case 2 packages are
involved (bsc#1187760)
This covers the case where not the packages itself would change
its vendor, but replaces a package from a different vendor.
- Fix solver jobs for PTFs (bsc#1186503)
- spec: switch to pkgconfig(openssl)
- Show key fpr from signature when signature check fails
(bsc#1187224)
Rpm by default only shows the short key ID when checking the
signature of a package fails. This patch reads the signatures
from the RPM headers and replaces she short IDs with the key
fingerprints fetched from the signatures.
- Implement alternative single transaction commit strategy.
This patch adds a experimental commit strategy that runs all
operations in a single rpm transaction, speeding up the execution
a lot.
- Use ZYPP_MEDIANETWORK=1 to enable the experimental new media
backend.
- Implement zchunk download, refactor Downloader backend.
- Fix purge-kernels fails with kernels from Kernel:HEAD
(bsc#1187738)
There recently was a change in the kernel package naming scheme
in regards to rc kernels. Since kernel upstream uses characters
in the version that are not allowed in rpm versions a "-rc" was
previously replaced with ".rc" which broke sorting by version, to
fix this issue it was replaced with "~rc", which unfortunately
broke the purge-kernels logic. This patch makes sure purge-kernel
does apply the same conversion.

Version update (9.23.43 -> 9.23.49)
- Bump version: 9.23.48 ? 9.23.49
- Fixed fstab entry for swap on LVM
If an LVM setup is used together with a swapspace the
swap is created as a volume in the volume group. The
required fstab entry to activate swap was not using
the LVM exposed device but the UUID of the low level
block layer. This low level device is not created
by udev because LVM takes over precedence in this
case.
- Bump version: 9.23.47 ? 9.23.48
- Fixed LVM get_volumes
Due to the change on the temporary directory yet another
error in the volume manager classes for LVM got exposed.
- Bump version: 9.23.46 ? 9.23.47
- Fixed LVM/btrfs volume based image builds
Due to the change on the temporary directory an error
in the volume manager classes for LVM and btrfs was
exposed. There was code which uses a sub-part of the
volume mount point directory which is a tempdir based
directory name. The sub-part was choosen by an index
based path split which worked for /tmp but no longer for
/var/tmp. With tempdir now being also a commandline
option this code has to become more robust.
- Bump version: 9.23.45 ? 9.23.46
- Do not expose the delete feature in Temporary
We do not want to expose the ability to create temporary
data that doesn't get auto deleted at the end of its
scope
- Refactor recovery archive creation
The creation of the recovery archive was based on a tempfile
which then gets moved to the final target file. This is bad
because if causes the tempfile cleanup to raise an exception
unless you specify delete=False. Creating a tempfile with
delete=False however, negates the reason for creating self
managed temporary data. Thus this code was refactored to
create the recovery archive file at its final destination
from the beginning on
- Moving temp data handling to its own namespace
Moving use of mkdtemp, NamedTemporaryFile and TemporaryDirectory
into its own class called Temporary: By default all temporary
data is created below /var/tmp but can be changed via the
global commandline option --temp-dir. This Fixes #1870
- Bump version: 9.23.44 ? 9.23.45
- Handle UnicodeDecode errors more gracefully
If the Codec.decode() method cannot encode the given data to utf-8
an Encoding exception is raised which causes kiwi to raise a
KiwiDecodingError. That way to handle the error causes an image
build to fail. However, this sort of error for example happens if
the .changes file of a package contains invalid characters. From
a user perspective this cannot be fixed and you cannot build the
image because of a stupid character error in a .changes file
outside your control. Because of this reason this commit handles
the decode error case differently and applies the 'replace'
strategy on error. The characters in questions gets replaced and
the rest of the data which can be decoded is returned.
- Install mypy library stubs for mock
- Added documentation for oem-skip-verify element
- Increase size of efi fat image
For ISO images an embedded efi fat image is needed to boot.
As consequence of adding the mok manager it can happen that
the size of the efi fat image is too small. With this commit
the size is increased to prevent an out of space issue
- Bump version: 9.23.43 ? 9.23.44
- Add tests for baseVagrantSetup
- Set the directory permissions of /home/vagrant/.ssh to 0700 in baseVagrantSetup
- Don't modify main sshd_config file via baseVagrantSetup
In Tumbleweed we switched from shipping sshd's config file in /etc to /usr/etc,
but baseVagrantSetup was not respecting that.
So instead of modifying the main config file, we instead create a custom file in
/etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/ with our custom setting which is much more robust
accross distributions. However, if /etc/ssh/sshd_config.d/ does not exist, then
we fall back to adding our settings to /etc/ssh/sshd_config.
- Fixed LUKS keyfile permission bits
LUKS keyfile should use 0600 file permission flags
- Fixed secure boot fallback setup
Make sure MokManager gets copied. The name and location of
the mok manager is distribution specific in the same way as
the shim loader. Thus we need to apply a similar concept
for looking it up. This Fixes bsc#1187515
- Improve live image integration test
Build one live image for Standard EFI+BIOS boot and
another variant that support SecureBoot+BIOS boot
==== python-pexpect ====

Version update (3.4.0 -> 3.5.1)
Subpackages: dracut-transactional-update libtukit0 transactional-update-zypp-config tukit
- Version 3.5.1
- t-u: Disable status file generation by default
The new experimental `status` command requires the availability of
/etc/YaST2/control.xml, which is not present on all systems. Hide the
creation of the corresponding status file behind a new EXPERIMENTAL_STATUS
option to try out this functionality.
- Increase library version
- Add tukit.conf to spec file
- Version 3.5.0
- Add alias setDiscardIfUnchanged for setDiscard. The old method name
wasn't really clear and will be removed if we should have an API break
in the future
- Replace mkinitrd with direct dracut call [boo#1186213]
- tukit: Add configuration file support (/etc/tukit.conf)
- Allow users to configure additional bind mounts (see /usr/etc/tukit.conf
for an example and limitations) [bsc#1188322]
- Add 'transactional-update status' call. This is a POC for obtaining a
hash of a system to verify its integrity. The functionality is still
experimental!
- Internal bugfixes / optimizations
==== vte ====
Subpackages: libvte-2_91-0 vte-lang
- Add vte-enable-build-flag-pie.patch: enable PIE flag to be
compatible with gcc default linking option. Otherwise build will
be failed with current SLE-15-SP4 project setup.

Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
How often did you update your machine during the last week? If you were
to follow every single snapshot, you had to do it seven times. That’s
how many snapshots passed openQA and had been pushed out to the
mirrors.
What were the main changes in the snapshots 0729…0804?
* Mozilla Firefox 90.0.2
* KDE Plasma 5.22.4
* Pipewire 0.3.32
* Postfix 3.6.2
* Parted 3.4: supports F2FS
* Mesa 21.1.6
* Bash 5.1.8
* Linux kernel 5.13.6
* Systemd 248.6
* Zypper 1.14.48: experimental support for singletrans rpm commits
* Network Manager 1.32.6
* Freetype 2.11.0
During the next two weeks, Richard will be taking care of openSUSE
Tumbleweed. Naturally, I tried to leave him only a small pile of things
in the stagings. Currently, there are:
* Linux kernel 5.13.8
* systemd 249
* rpmlint 2.0
* openssl 3
* glibc 2.34
Most of them requiring a good bunch of build fixes to make them
acceptable. So, I can only ask you all to support Richard during the
next few days and offer him as many build fixes as you possibly can.
Cheers,
Dominique
