Hello everyone, here's a list of the packages I won't be able to maintain in the future: devel:languages:pascal/peazip multimedia:apps/Jamulus multimedia:apps/kawaii-player multimedia:apps/mda-lv2 multimedia:apps/zam-plugins science/praat (note: there's already a candidate for the last one, but I haven't seen submit requests for the last two releases) What I ask of prospective maintainers is that they have at least some experience with packaging so that I can leave the puppies in good hands. [opensuse-factory] mirror system not checking for existence

I've had to start rewriting an old-style fetch script for TW, -- grabbing the repo/<type>/<arch> index.htm and fetching the rpms. Trouble is, alot of rpm's listed on download.OS.org aren't on some mirrors. I seem to have alot of problems with this mirror seeming to always return 'not found'. http://ftp.rz.uni-wuerzburg.de/ -- anytime I get 302'd to this server, I always get a 'not found' -- like for all of libreoffice. When was the last time download.opensuse.org actually checked that any of the files were on the redirected site? I have gotten files from other sites (and some misses), but the above site seems to always get a miss. Is there a direct download address off of dl.os.org that I can fall-back to when a mirror doesn't have the binary and/or a way to blacklist a mirror, since once dl.os.org locks me onto that server, I'm screwed. [opensuse-factory] No kernel 5.9 in Kernel:stable and Tumbleweed

Hi, this is just so you know: I intentionally linger with pushing kernel 5.9 into K:s and TW. Nvidia (mainly CUDA – uvm module) has licensing problems with 5.9. It always had, but 5.9 forbids this bad behavior now¹⁾. To cite, Nvidia promises to provide something "early". They will allegedly provide some announcement somewhere too (I don't know the details, don't ask me). Seife might (or might not) know more. If that doesn't happen until 5.9.1²⁾, I won't wait any longer and will proceed with pushing 5.9.1 to K:s and TW. They had enough time to fix their issue. More precisely since 5.9-rc1 which was released on Aug 16 13:04:57 2020 -0700. That is almost _two_ months! In fact, they must have been aware of the problem given they have been using this so-called GPL condom for ages. While I understand there might be CUDA users in TW, I see a little reason why one company would stop rolling our rolling distro. Users relying on uvm module should simply stay ("zypper al" is your friend) with 5.8 until the mess is resolved. Hi Today I presented obsgit[1] in the oSLO2020, but was a very short talk[2] with no time for questions (and I could not stay a bit longer in the chat room) Maybe we can use this thread to start the discussion and share some of the questions and ideas. For example, yesterday I learned something about OBS and Kanku that can potentially change the way that we can import the project from git back to OBS (for building or testing). I was aware that the .spec files are totally isolated from internet, but this is not true for enabled _service files. The previous Leap release manager (Ludwig Nussel) explained to me that this enable the possibility that instead of importing the full project, I could create an ad-hoc _service that fetch directly from Git and LFS all the components. OBS could have now the chance of detecting that some of the assets are already in the cache, and will avoid some downloads, and from the user perspective will be very fast, as no tgz gets uploaded. Because we create the _service, we can represent a Git branch accurately in OBS, as all the package _services will be pointing to the correct Git branch. Transient OBS branches will be now cheap from the user PoV, and will enable faster testing and experimentation for big projects. This possibility open new questions, like for example what to do if the package already have a _service, but his kind of idea can shape the solution at the end. P.S I am not sure that the talk was recorded, but I think that the slides give a clear idea about what we love to achieve: develop something as massive as Factory in Git and building it in OBS with all the guarantees and features that we have now.
