[opensuse-factory] Confirming list of stakeholders for the openSUSE Leap 15.2.1 mini interlock on 19th October
by Lubos Kocman 13 Oct '20
by Lubos Kocman 13 Oct '20
13 Oct '20
Hello openSUSE!
I'd like to confirm with a community on the list of stakeholders to
sign off under the openSUSE Leap 15.2.1 go/nogo on a currently proposed
release day of 4th November.
The signoff (mini-interlock) should happen on Monday 19th Oct
(intentionally after the openSUSE and LibreOffice conference). The
exact time will be determined based on the geolocation of the audience.
The signoff will happen on a jitsi meeting and progress-o-o and we will
share the report on wiki and mailing lists.
Currently proposed list of stakeholders is the regular crew of CtLG
weekly updates (List can be found at last meeting minutes) and DimStar.
https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ClosingTheLeapGap-meeting)
What exactly are we signing off:
agreed items listed at
https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ClosingTheLeapGap-20200924-interlock-discus…
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Roadmap in case of nogo we'd simply
start to work on openSUSE Leap 15.3 release right away without an
intermediate Leap 15.2.1 release.
Please reach out to me if you believe you should be part of the sign-
off itself.
Thank you and Best regards

==== live555 ====
Version update (2020.05.15 -> 2020.08.19)
Subpackages: libBasicUsageEnvironment1 libUsageEnvironment3 libgroupsock8
- update to 2020.08.19:
- Fixed a bug in "QuickTimeFileSink" that could cause malformed "esds" atoms to be
generated. (Thanks to Chris Paucar for reporting this issue.)
- In "MPEG2TransportStreamFromESSource.cpp", changed the name of the constant LOW_WATER_MARK
to TS_FROM_ES_LOW_WATER_MARK, and "#ifndef"d it, so that, if you wish, you can redefine it
at compile time.
- Fixed a bug in the handling of pausing, when streaming from (multi-track) Matroska files.
- Fixed another bug in the handling of seeking within Matroska files.
- Fixed a bug in the handling of seeking within Matroska files.
(Thanks to Jim Ham for reporting this problem.)
- Changed the parameter signature of the "RawVideoRTPSink" constructor and "createNew()"
functions so that the "width" parameter comes before the "height" parameter. This order
- "width", "height" - is more common, and is the order used when these parameters are
defined in RFC 4175.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Because the types of these two parameters are the same, existing application
code that uses "RawVideoRTPSink" will compile without error; however, it will not work
properly unless the order of the parameters in the call to "RawVideoRTPSink::createNew()"
is changed.
- More cleanup of the implementation of "RawVideoRTPSink".
- Cleaned up the implementation of "RawVideoRTPSink".
- Updated the "RawVideoRTPSource" implementation to not set "fCurrentPacketCompletesFrame"
until we are processing the last line in the packet.
(Thanks to Andrey Lisovoy for reporting this issue.)
- Fixed a potential buffer overflow bug in the server handling of a RTSP "PLAY" command,
when the command specifies seeking by absolute time.
(Thank to Xiaobo Xiang for reporting this.)
- Fixed a memory leak in the "sha1()" function (a "EVP_MD_CTX" object was not being deleted).
(Thanks to Amir Perlman for reporting this.)
- Moved all definitions of PREFIX from "Makefile.tail" files to "Makefile.head" (so that
it can be redefined by a "config.*" file, if desired.
Also changed the definition of EXE in "config.mingw" to be ".exe".
(Thanks to Eric Beuque for this suggestion.)
- Fixed a typo in the previous release that could cause a compilation problem for some
developers. (Thanks to Eric Beuque for reporting this.)
==== mozilla-nspr ====

* Remove macOS Code Fragment Manager support code

+ Misc. bug fixes and cleanups.
+ Updated translations.
==== nano ====
Version update (5.2 -> 5.3)
Subpackages: nano-lang
- GNU nano 5.3:
* Option 'set stateflags' makes nano show the state of auto-indenting,
the mark, hard-wrapping, macro recording, and soft-wrapping in the
title bar. The flags take the place of "Modified", and a modified
buffer is instead indicated by an asterisk (*) after its name.
* Nano no longer by default tries using libmagic to determine the type
of a file (when neither filename nor first line gave a clue), because
in most cases it is a waste of time. It requires using the option
- -magic or -! or 'set magic' to make nano try libmagic.
* The color of the indicator can be changed with 'set scrollercolor'.
==== nodejs14 ====
Version update (14.13.0 -> 14.13.1)
Subpackages: npm14

- disable _quick3d flavors in staging through ringdisabled
- enable python2 Quick3D package for Leaps in new multibuild flavor
- Build Quick3D extension in separate package
* This keeps the dependency tree in staging smaller. (Requested
by Factory maintainers.)
* Is simply unresolvable for repositores which don't have
Quick3d but can still build the other extensions.
- Clean alternatives setup: Make use of %python_clone macro.
- Build Quick3D support in every repository that has it: presumably
all Qt 5.15 repositories

* Patch is submitted to the PyQt5 mailing list
- Fix qtbot failures pyqt5-signals-hashable.patch, see
* https://www.riverbankcomputing.com/pipermail/pyqt/2020-September/043160.html
* gh#pytest-dev/pytest-qt#316
- Update to Version 5.15.1
* Added the QtTextToSpeech module.
* None is now interpreted as a null QJsonValue.
* Bound signals can now be compared for equality.
* Q_CLASSINFO, Q_ENUM, Q_ENUMS, Q_FLAG and Q_FLAGS are not
implemented when using PyPy.

[opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed - Review of the week 2020/41
by Dominique Leuenberger / DimStar 12 Oct '20
by Dominique Leuenberger / DimStar 12 Oct '20
12 Oct '20
Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
After a lengthy integration period, we have finally merged glibc 2.32
during week 41. Of course, this is not all that happened in the 4
published snapshots (1002, 1004, 1005, and 1007).
The most noteworthy changes were:
* systemd 246.6
* virt-manager 3.1.0
* Mozilla Thunderbird 78.3.1
* Linux kernel 5.8.12
* glibc 2.32
* SELinux 3.1
* bison 3.7.2
* gettext 0.21
With these changes merged, a bit of the backlog has been worked off and
the staging projects are a bit relaxed – but not for long: new changes
are already in the pipeline. Currently, these things are being worked
on:
* Mozilla Firefox 81.0.1
* GNOME 3.36.7 (short-term)
* GNOME 3.38.1 (we still lack mozjs78)
* Mesa 20.2 (Some transparency loss needs to be investigated on
Plasma)
* openssl 1.1.1h (1 build fail left, neon (gh#notroj/neon#38)
* KDE Plasma 5.20 (currently beta being tested)
* openssl 3.0 (long-term; no progress in the last few weeks)
* RPM 4.16: quite a bit of build failures detected in the first run.
A typical error seen is `%if %_lib == lib64` no longer being valid.
Bareword comparison is being blocked and the values need to be quoted.
Cheers,
Dominique

==== squid ====
- Reinstate permissions macros for pinger binary, because the permissions
package is also responsible for setting up the cap_net_raw capability,
currently a fresh squid install doesn't get a capability bit at all
(bsc#1171569).

from .profile to .i18n (x11-tools package) skeleton file (boo#1158724)
==== bash-completion ====
- Convert to _multibuild. The pre_checkin.sh script was quite
broken anyway and it was less effort to convert than to try to
fix that one.
- Do not BuildRequire util-linux: there is no need to have this in
the build root.
- Drop cmake BuildRequires: this is only here for the
/usr/share/cmake directory ownership, which in turn even causes
problems of left-over directories (e.g. install bash-completion,
on a system without cmake, uninstall bash-completion,
/usr/share/cmake remains left on the disk).

==== gimp ====
Version update (2.10.20 -> 2.10.22)
Subpackages: gimp-lang gimp-plugin-aa libgimp-2_0-0 libgimpui-2_0-0
- Update to version 2.10.22:
- Core:
- Verbose version information (`gimp-2.10 -v` on command line,
or debug output) now displays Flatpak related information
when available. This is especially useful for debugging (such
as the exact Flatpak build hash, the runtime version, the
installed Flatpak extensions, permissions, etc.).
- OpenCL settings has now been moved to the Playground tab in
Preferences.
- On stable builds, "Playground" tab is now visible in
Preferences if any of the experimental features has been
enabled, even without the CLI option `--show-playground`.
- Tools:
- "gegl:matting-levin" now the default engine of Foreground
Select tool (when present, as it is an optional feature) as
it performs a lot better.
- GEGL operations now display a "Sample merged" checkbox in
Tool Options. This will be used when the operation allows to
pick a color (hence one can pick from the edited layer or
from visible data).
- "Sample merged" now defaults to being activated in Color
Picker and GEGL tools as it seems the less confusing for
beginners who don't know of the option yet (according to a
small poll we ran).
- User interface:
- In GimpSpinButton, don't propagate Enter key-press events if
updating the spin-button's value in response changes the
entered text. This prevents confirming dialogs when hitting
Enter after entering a math expression in size entries,
updating their value instead. Likewise, don't propagate
Escape key-press events if a new value was entered, and
restore the original value instead.
- GimpMemSizeEntry improved to show appropriate binary prefixes
(kibibyte, mebibyte and gibibyte) instead of decimal ones, to
round properly when using higher units, and to not lose
accuracy when possible when displaying in higher units.
- Several of the biggest pages of the Preferences dialog are
now scrollable, allowing the dialog to fit on smaller
displays.
- Plug-ins:
- Add a new GIMP_EXPORT_NEEDS_CROP export capability, which
causes gimp_export_image() to crop the exported image content
to the image bounds; this is useful for formats that support
layers, but have no concept of global image bounds, hence
cropping is the only way to enforce the image bounds. When
showing the export dialog, give an option to either crop the
layers to the image bounds, or to resize the image to fit the
layers.
- Content type `image/webp` is now recognized (and not only
`image/x-webp` as both seem to be in used and this format is
unfortunately not yet listed in IANA media types (so various
content types are in use, no clear standard apparently).
- DDS import is now a bit more permissive, allowing to load
some files with invalid header flags regarding compression,
while we are able to know the right compression from other
flags. This allows to recover invalid DDS files exported by
other software.
- JPEG detection improved to be more generic and reliable.
- HEIF support improvements:
- AVIF importing and exporting added (requires libheif
1.8.0+)
- 10/12-bit importing and exporting now available for
HEIC/AVIF
- NCLX color profile import (link with LittleCMS)
- Metadata support when importing
- "Lossless" option is now called "Nearly lossless (YUV420
format)" because this is actually what it is, hence
previous naming was misleading.
- TIFF support improvements:
- Add an option to crop the layers to the image bounds when
exporting individual layers (using GIMP_EXPORT_NEEDS_CROP),
since TIFF has no concept of global image bounds otherwise.
Cropping is enabled by default.
- TIFF export will not override "DocumentName" metadata tag
anymore.
- Stop writing file paths into TIFF DocumentNames as file
paths can contain confidential information such as
usernames and directory structures, making the previous
behaviour a potential privacy and security risk.
- Fix a file descriptor leak case which may have prevented a
file from being opened on Windows.
- Multiple improvements in the PSP import plug-in:
- support reading raster layers of PSP version > 6,
- support reading 16-bit integer PSP files,
- support reading grayscale and indexed PSP files,
- support PSP images with zero-length layer names,
- fix wrong layer offset of layers,
- fix reading layer names with high bit ASCII characters,
- fix incorrect loading of PSP images with uncompressed
channel data,
- fix reading of creator block data of PSP images,
- better error messages describing yet unsupported features,
- improve reader stability by always using the block/chunk
length.
- Spyrogimp now works on Grayscale images and clutters less the
undo history.
- "Orientation" metadata is now reset whether you accepted to
rotate the image or not when importing an image.
- XPM does not export a "None" (transparent) color when unused.
- BMP always include color masks when exporting BMP with color
space info, as mandated by BITMAPV5HEADER specification.
- Debugging:
- Add progressive performance logs: progressive logs contain
complete information after each recorded sample, by writing
partial address maps at each sample, containing all new
addresses introduced by the sample. This allows recording
complete logs even in cases where they can't be properly
terminated, such as when GIMP crashes or freezes in the
middle of the log. Progressive logs are disabled by default,
since they potentially increase the sampling cost. They can
be enabled through a toggle in the log file-dialog, or
through GIMP_PERFORMANCE_LOG_PROGRESSIVE environment
variable. Performance log viewer can now process progressive
performance logs too.
- Allow controlling performance-log parameters through the UI.

==== inn ====
Version update (2.6.2 -> 2.6.3)
- update to inn-2.6.3
+ Fixed the selection of the elliptic curve to use with OpenSSL 1.1.0 or
later; NIST P-256 was enforced instead of using the most secure curve.
+ A new inn.conf parameter has been added to fine-tune the cipher suites
to use with TLS 1.3: the *tlsciphers13* now permits configuring them.
A separate cipher suite configuration parameter is needed for TLS 1.3
because TLS 1.3 cipher suites are not compatible with TLS 1.2, and
vice-versa. In order to avoid issues where legacy TLS 1.2 cipher
suite configuration configured in the *tlsciphers* parameter would
inadvertently disable all TLS 1.3 cipher suites, the inn.conf
configuration has been separated out.
+ Fixed a regression since INN 2.6.1 that prevented articles with
internationalized header fields (that is to say encoded in UTF-8) from
being posted.
+ Support for Python 3 has been added to INN. Embedded Python filtering
and authentication hooks for innd and nnrpd can now use version 3.3.0
or later of the Python interpreter. In the 2.x series, version 2.3.0
or later is still supported.
+ When configuring INN with the --with-python flag, the "PYTHON"
environment variable, when set, is used to select the interpreter to
embed. Otherwise, it is searched in standard paths.
+ In case you change the Python interpreter to embed, make sure that the
Python scripts you use are written in the expected syntax for that
version of the Python interpreter. Notably, buffer objects have been
replaced with memoryview objects in Python 3, and UTF-8 encoding now
really matters for string literals (Python 3 uses bytes and Unicode
objects).
+ INN documentation and samples of Python hooks have been updated to
provide more examples.
+ When a Python or Perl filter hook rejects an article, innd now
mentions the reason in response to CHECK and TAKETHIS commands.
Previously, the reason was given only for the IHAVE command.
+ nnrpd now properly logs the hostname of clients whose connection
failed owing to an issue during the negotiation of a TLS session or
high load average.

4.0 Updates from individual teams
===================================
4.1 openSUSE Leap Release Management
Owner: Lubos Kocman
Feature Requests for SLE on SUSE Labs. It's going to be public on
youtube (SUSE LABS channel).
Two talks about Leap Next and Why should be companies interested in
Leap Next.
Rename of the product to Leap 15.2.1 including images happened this
week.
Initial Maintenance setup was done by Adrian. This should unblock SCC
team. Potential ECR blocker was resolved.
SCC setup is ready for Jump 15.2.1 so migration team should be
unblocked.
So far it seems like we'l have to fork about 40 packages for which CtLG
features already are or will be implemented in SP3. It will be bit less
as some are just request to add build dependency to SLE without any
code change.
**News: we have a weekly review meeting with screen-sharing for all
openSUSE Leap Feature requests on Mondays 13:30 - 13:50 UTC | 15:30-
15:50 CEST @ https://meet.opensuse.org/FeatureRequests
Everybody is welcome to join!**

4.2. openSUSE Leap Release Engineering
Owner: Max Lin, Guillaume, Michel
Max:
Spend most of time on renaming product to Leap 15.2.1
Guillaume: ARM
no news compared to last week
* FPC will be updated again in 15.2:Update with a fix for some
aarch64 machines
* VLC is missing on aarch64:
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1175972 3.0.11.1 pushed
toLeap:15.2:Update. Will be processed after release. Marcus just
released the update.
* 32-bit ARMv7: Lubos to talk to PM. Meanwhile Guillaume will drive
the planning effort
Rudi: there is only one single box in IBS that can do ARM-32bit so
there would be veto from Autobuild team.
Adrian: it would have to be done retrospectively for SP0.
Adrian: either we have to rebuild SLE as it's inherited or simplify it
and risk the different build results. Or simply fork Factory.
Rudi: Ports for Jump? e.g. for RISC-V in the future.
Lubos will make sure that Guillaume has access to survey.opensuse.org
so we can ask our Users what's their usecases for 32bit ARM.
Michel:
I will be in vacation until 28/10.
for Jump:
ppc64le not working on bare metal
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1174166 I just created a

For aarch64 need also merge of

podman issue: the openqa/registry differences
https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/1405349#step/podman_image/11
^ command 'podman pull
registry.opensuse.org/opensuse/leap/Jump:15.2/arm/images/totest/contain
ers/opensuse/leap:Jump:15.2' failed , 1) once we had the container
images then we will know the right path 2) Jump:15.2 here is VERSION
variable on openQA, we need to correct it in the openqa test
just created issue https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/71902 Fabian
started work on it, but openQA tests blocked by
https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/70957 "Maintenance setup for Jump"
Max: Michel can you please get me the link for systemd-network issue?
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1176088
Let's get a list of packages that have to be rebuild in Jump as they
still contain branding (should not be that many). These packages should
have a CtLG Feature requests in jira.suse.com. Still pending
lkocman: to open task in progress-o-o
Adrian already re-published project manually but there is still some
work left to have it "implemented". Still pending. Lubos: to check o
the opensuse-admin issue.

4.4 Autobuild
Owner: Rüdiger Oertel Adrian Schroeter
Update tree issue (see above)
Sources and debug trees were not yet moved to the current snapshot of
Updates.
Rename of product broke the update scripts and caused issues with
changelogs.
3rd thing, Adrian needs to implement some nice way of handling
patchinfo. zypper up patch would not catch them. Only zypper up would
handle it.
Scott: Package Hub has the same issue with patchinfo. We'd like to see
it fixed as well.
Adrian: it has to be implemented first. It seems to be more easy to
implement for Patchinfo. We need a script that re-does repository for
SCC.
TBD: sync of internal to external comments on mirrored submissions
Adrian: who will be signoff interlock
https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ClosingTheLeapGap-20200924-interlock-discus…
Transfer of comments from IBS requests back to OBS submit requests to
SLE needs to get implemented.
https://api.opensuse.org/public/source/openSUSE?view=productlist&expand=1
^ Is resolved by Adrian. openSUSE Jump project needs to be made as part
of the official Product list in OBS.
Adrian: Marco has finished the version for the request cloning.
SLE requested triggered by openSUSE community (request comes from
external).
https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Jump:OBS:SRMirroring
Marcus mentioned that user employees should not be trackable.
For embargoed issues it would be a topic, but if it's coming from
outside, that's not really issues.
We need to make sure that users are aware of the syncing.
Marcus: none of the bots leak confidential information.
Comments need to be anonymized.
Adrian: I'll talk to speak to Marco to add a text to submission so it's
clear that request is synced to OBS.
Marcus: Single line banner would be useful for our employees.
Fixed the sync to ftp-stage by reverting the iso naming scheme from
15.2.1 back to 15.2.
Do we really need the 15.2.1 number, it's seems to be just problematic
and we do not use it anywhere in deliverable names etc.
Adrian still need to provide SLE maintenance updates in a form of
consumable ftp tree in form of installation.
https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/70957
Adrian needs confirmation from PM that they're okay with his proposal.
Marco is working on the osc packtrack which should help us to see
product changes that happened in between builds or over some period of
time.
===================================
4.5 Maintenance
Owner: Stephan Barth
Marcus will reach out to QAM regarding the test setup.
Maintenance setup for Jump/Leap 15.2.1
https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/70957
Marcus: needs to know how to set it up, so we can setup announce tools.
We don't have test-updates at this tome.
Marcus: one test project for openSUSE:Jump it's
openSUSE:Jump:15.2.1:Update. we're currently blocked on repo-layout
decision, which is blocked on geo-location/ECR.
Backports are currently the best effort for Updates. We might need to
revisit backports.
Lubos and Woflgang will create documentation about handling Backports
submit requests until next Friday. This is currently gray area for
openSUSE release team.
The current way we think is that we would aggregate updates from SLE,
openSUSE Backports and Jump for any branding/pattern/000*
changes. This could be perhaps then aggregated to a single repository,
so user does not end up with subscribing to 3 different repositories.
Marcus: the backports parts seem to be weird, because the backports
repo has a lower quality.
https://en.opensuse.org/index.php?title=Portal:Jump/Policy/ChangeValidation - reference to
backports
Marcus is currently concerned about quality of the backports as there
is no openQA
Marcus agrees on the mini-interlock idea currently aiming signoff to
mid of October 2020.
Stefan is fine with mini interlock proposal as well.
===================================
4.6 Security
Owner: Marcus Meissner
Waiting for final repositories, openQA set-up will follow. Adrian: 2 of
3 repos are ready, should unblock.
No progress on SecureBoot issues.
Lubos to schedule meeting with Max Lin, Marcus, Lubos, Guillaume.
No security concerns at this moment.
Secure boot: will we use SUSE signed bootloader, since we use SUSE
signed shim, kernel, grub2.
We will use SLE bootloader. If we'd rebuild it will be a problem.
What about Virtualbox which is is signed just by openSUSE key.
We should have perhaps shim which allows to load both signatures, or
kernel that allows both signatures.
Max the problem si about kernel config and KMPs. SLE kernel has pretty
strict lockdown.
mockbuild dialog during boot could be an option.
Lubos to reach out to kernel team.
===================================
4.7 Package Hub
Owner: Wolfgang Engel, Scott Bahling
Discussion about contributions Package Hub/Leap. Initiator was the
linking of Jump/Leap and Backport repositories.
Future of PackageHub. Could we choose packages from the new
distribution based on criteria that these are packages that we would
like to install and would not disrupt SLE.
Lubos, Max, Guillaume, Michel, Ismail, Scott, and Wolfgang to have a
meeting to co-ordinate on Backports co-operation. Could perhaps current
backports stuff work on the distribution part for SLE? While openSUSE
release team would handle primarily incoming submissions. We'll have
meeting after Michel is back from FTO.

4.11 Engineering - Desktop
Owner: Frederic Crozat
Some CtlG features needed re-submit by developers. Autumn festival is
finished in China, we are getting fixes again.
New plymouth was accepted in 15-SP3, including CtlG submission, this
should be used for Jump. Other CtlG features are being integrated in
SLE atm.

5.0 Other topics
General question: Should we move Backports to an official update area
in the FTP server?
Should we generate the update tree directly in IBS (topic for future)?

Hi,
what's the canonical way to run scripts (eg. from crontab), that want to
access the X session, (eg. xprop, wmctrl), now that xauth is a random file in
/run/user/$UID?
Before the switch, it was possible to run such scripts from crontab, using the
pattern:
XAUTHORITY=~/.Xauthority DISPLAY=:0 ~/bin/script
Cheers,
Pete

[opensuse-factory] Many broken repositories on download.opensuse.org atm!
by Adrian Schröter 08 Oct '20
by Adrian Schröter 08 Oct '20
08 Oct '20
Please note that we have currently many broken repositories out
there.
createrepo_c starts to skip rpms and is not failing, so your installer
will not be able to see the rpms and most likely report dependency problems.
The issue is reported here: 1177175
We will try to rollback to fix this again...
sorry
