Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, Week 44 brought, among many other things, an upgrade to Kernel 5.9.1. The feedback I had seen so far was good, so people can still do their work. In total, Tumbleweed has released 5 snapshots (1023, 1024, 1025, 1026, and 1028) during this week. The most noteworthy changes include: * Freetype 2.10.4 * sssd 2.4.0 * Ghostscript 9.59.3 (there is again a patch lever in the version number; some scripts/apps trip over this) * Mozilla Firefox 82.0 * Mozilla Thunderbird 78.4.0 * Cups 2.3.3 * Linux kernel 5.9.1 * GStreamer 1.18.0 * Ruby 2.6 has been completely eliminated * nasm 2.15.05 * PostgreSQL 13 * jsoncpp 1.9.4 Looking back at the stuff being integrated, that was indeed a big part of that list. Currently, we build these major changes in our staging projects (ar are aware of the changes upcoming soon) * KDE Plasma 5.20.2 * Perl 5.32.0 * GLibc will be configured with CET enabled (Intel Control-flow Enforcement Technology) * LLVM 11 * RPM 4.16 * Ruby 3.0 (final release is scheduled for the end of December) * GNOME 3.38.1: awaiting sec review for malcontent (parental control feature) * openssl 3.0 (long-term; no progress in the last few weeks) Cheers, Dominique

[opensuse-factory] boot failure TW - missing core.img

After the latest update of TW, I am unable to boot from the TW partition. /boot/grub2/i386-pc/core.img is missng!! The only way is to start using a DVD and select booting from an existing partition. I use 'multiboot' to get to the proper partition. Copying an older version of core.img does not work either. I've handled the needed packages on the command link am left with this rpm error message when I try to build the current rpm to install: error: Failed dependencies: rpmlib(PayloadIsZstd) <= 5.4.18-1 is needed by <about 9 different devel rpms in 'oss' (x86_64+noarch). How should I locate/find this? FWIW, I was trying to install the current rpm and has a bunch of these probs, so then tried to build it which only had a few missing 'devel' packages. but trying to build it from source rpms requires other binary 'devel packages'. I did try installing the rpm binary first, but it had more deps as well as the above one. This started because I wanted to install the latest "htop" rpm with perf counters and such, but it also had the Payload problem. That led to trying rpm which led to trying to build it... Hello openSUSE! The last update that you've received from me was the (Conditional) No Go for the Leap 15.2.1. https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Jump/Leap15.2.1:GoNogo There is no longer ar dedicated Closing the Leap Gap/Jump weekly meeting since the Go/NoGo meeting. The only related weekly meeting getting the Jump concept updates would be the openSUSE Release Team meeting that happens every Wednesday at 10:30 CEST. Let me share with you the next steps with Closing The Leap Gap and openSUSE Leap and what I've agreed upon today with openSUSE Board members. I'm going to create a request(s) to set up openSUSE Leap 15.3 based on the setup we've come up with the Jump concept. I believe we have no issues with meeting Alpha/Beta criteria for Leap 15.3, unlike criteria used for Go/noGo for 15.2.1. We should have an initial setup done by the 4th of November to meet the roadmap. As far as 15.2.1 goes, we're making minor progress on both the Migration and Maintenance setup front for 15.2.1, but I'm not sure if that will be enough. Meanwhile, I'll keep monitoring the situation around Leap 15.2.1 in case that something would change this week and will come up with the final statement for the potential Leap 15.2.1 release on the 2nd of November. I want to close one chapter so the openSUSE Release team can focus on the upcoming Leap release. We've already delayed openSUSE Leap 15.3 enough. **With that said, I would like to announce that there will be a small openSUSE Leap 15.3 kickoff event on the 4th of November. ** The form would be a virtual coffee or beer (depends on your TZ) && friendly informative talk. I'll talk to openSUSE Marketing about what's the best format to handle such an event.
