Hi,
A couple of months ago I announced that I would like to add
applet-window-buttons and applet-window-appmenu to factory. They belong
to the world of latte-dock in kde plasma, but can also used (with less
functionality) with normal panels. I have now done the sr.
A reason to have these available is that with upcoming 0.9 version of
latte-dock these applets (together with applet-window-title, directly
availabe via store,kde.org) can be successor to the
plasmoid-active-window-control (AWC). The latter has not seen active
development and I will try to keep it alive as long as I can, but at
some point it is going to break.
This is nice for those who, for example, like to imitate the unity
layout in plasma.
Kind regard,
Cor

Hi,
After some recent releases I started to have problem with sudo.
First attempt which ask for user password command fails e.g.:
hlavki@hlknb:~> sudo zypper ref
[sudo] password for hlavki:
sudo: PERM_ROOT: setresuid(0, -1, -1): Operation not permitted
sudo: unable to send audit message: Operation not permitted
sudo: setuid(0): Operation not permitted
sudo: unable to set supplementary group IDs: Operation not permitted
sudo: unable to change to runas uid (0, 0): Operation not permitted
sudo: unable to execute /usr/bin/zypper: Operation not permitted
on next attempts (when password is not asked) it works.
I didn't find any bugzilla issue so I don't know if it's by wrong configuration or something else.
thanks, m.

gnome-software.
+ This has been fixed in this release so it is now ABI compatible
with 1.2.x, but NOT compatible with 1.4.0. It is recommended
that all distributions that shipped 1.4.0 update to 1.4.1 and
rebuild all dependencies of libflatpak.

request. This feature was introduced in kernel 4.20.
max_pages is set based on the value in max_write.

[opensuse-factory] YaST: highlights of development sprint 71 and 72
by Ancor Gonzalez Sosa 25 Jun '19
by Ancor Gonzalez Sosa 25 Jun '19
25 Jun '19
May and June have been, so far, interesting months for the YaST Team.
Many things happening... which had the drawback of keeping us too busy
to publish our usual sprint reports.
But we are back with a looong report trying to summarize the latest
three development sprints, namely the 77th, 78th and 79th. So take a cup
of your favorite drink and dive into...
https://lizards.opensuse.org/2019/06/25/yast-sprints-77-79/
As special bonus, it includes a link to the our recent blog post titled
"Getting Further with Btrfs in YaST", in case you missed that announcement.
Cheers

It feels like some of the recent (2 weeks ago or less) snapshots has
changed the way Qt(?) applications render fonts -- now they resemble
Infinality patches with a thick configuration.
As an example, here are side-to-side GTK and Qt pavucontrol versions.[0]
The GTK version has the fonts rendered like they used to be rendered all
the time.
What has changed, and can it be brought back?

[opensuse-factory] Curious case of publicly used Lua library ... static library or public one?
by Matěj Cepl 23 Jun '19
by Matěj Cepl 23 Jun '19
23 Jun '19
Hello,
all Lua extension modules written in C are modules in the
libtool terminology opened by dlopen and so they are stored in
%{_libdir}/lua/%{lua_version}/ private directory (e.g.,
/usr/lib64/lua/5.1/lpeg.so) and they are called only by Lua
interpreter, which knows to look for them there. Now, however,
neovim decided in its latest versions (not released yet, just in
the master branch on GitHub) to luv Lua library and link to it.
It bundles its own version of the library, but I think it is
necessary to unbundle and use openSUSE package for it.
Now, I have the question, what should I do? I guess, I can:
1. Persuade somehow Neovim to link against private module.
That’s probably a nonsense, right?
2. Introduce whole concept of public Lua libraries (including
a snippet in /etc/ld.so.conf.d/ and all that jazz) just
because of neovim? (I can easily persuade luv CMake scripts
to generate public library, if necessary) Moreover, I would
have to deal somehow with necessity to have two versions of
a library, because we maintain two (incompatible) versions
of
Lua (5.1 and 5.3), so something like
%{_libdir}/lua-public/%{lua_version}/?).
3. Use static library, which seems like the least disruptive for
the system, but it seems rather strongly discouraged in
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Shared_library_packaging_policy
4. Use neovim's bundled library.
What would you suggest? Any precedents for either solution?
Thank you for kindly kicking me in the right direction,
Matěj

Hi all. I was going to raise a bugzilla report for this but wasn't sure a) if
it is an openSUSE packaging issue or an upstream issue, and b) what category
to file it under.
When upgrading tumbleweed, zypper complains about broken dependencies for
gparted because it has a hard dependency on btrfs-progs, which I don't have
installed (in fact, I have it blacklisted).
I do not run, nor do I ever intend to use btrfs on my machine, and I don't
want btrfs-progs installed, but I still want to be able to use gparted.
Gparted should not care whether or not btrfs-progs are installed if I don't
have any btrfs partitions. Surely btrfs-progs should be listed in recommends
rather than dependencies?
Regards,
Rodney.

=== Details ===
==== babl ====
Version update (0.1.64 -> 0.1.66)
- Update to version 0.1.66:
+ Added API call, babl_space_get_rgb_luminance.
+ Make most SIMD code-paths optional again on i686.
==== gimp ====
Version update (2.10.10 -> 2.10.12)
Subpackages: gimp-lang gimp-plugin-aa gimp-plugins-python libgimp-2_0-0 libgimpui-2_0-0
- Update to version 2.10.12:
+ Core:
- Add an "Incremental" option to the Dodge/Burn tool, which,
similarly to the Paintbrush, Pencil, and Eraser tools,
applies the effect incrementally as the pointer moves.
- Curves now have a concept of smooth vs corner points: smooth
points produce a smooth curve, while corner points produce a
sharp curve (previously, all points were smooth).
- Search the user font directory path on Windows (since Windows
10, non-admin users have the ability to install fonts). This
is only a temporary hack until fontconfig adds proper
upstream support.
- In gimp_brush_core_get_paint_buffer(), when allocating a new
paint buffer, clear the old buffer *before* allocating the
new one, to reduce the amount of simultaneously allocated
memory.
- In GimpPaintbrush, avoid refilling the paint buffer at each
dab if the paint color/pixmap hasn't changed, hence allowing
faster painting in some specific cases.
- Add hygon cpu detection and enable MMX/SSE support.
- Add a GimpSymmetry::get_transform() virtual function and a
corresponding gimp_symmetry_get_transform() function which
return the brush transform corresponding to a given symmetry
stroke in terms of the rotation angle and reflection flag (in
contrast to gimp_symmetry_get_operation() which returns the
same transforation in terms of a GeglNode). This allows us to
simplify, fix (artifact bugs, etc.), and improve the
painting-code performance for several symmetry painting
cases.
- New gimp-brush-pipe-spacing parasite set by core code to
preserve GIH brush's spacing across reloads.
- Add a new Offset filter tool, as a front-end to gimp:offset.
The tool replaces, and provides the same interface as the
drawable-offset dialog while also providing live preview and
on-canvas interaction.
+ Plug-ins:
- Exported profile and data format strategy updated in several
file plug-ins.
- When not saving a profile, we always export as sRGB data, as
most viewers would not display the image properly otherwise.
- When saving a profile:
. If a profile was manually assigned, we always export to the
assigned format, hence pixel data is converted accordingly,
whatever the work format.
- If no profile was assigned:
. If the export format support high-bit depth, we export the
work format as-is.
. If the export format is 8-bit max, we convert the work
format to sRGB, except if the work format is 8-bit linear.
+ The following plug-ins were updated: JPEG, PNG, TIFF and WebP.
+ Tools:
- Add input/output spin-buttons to the Curves tool, which allow
setting the selected point's coordinates numerically. When
the image precision is greater than 8-bpc, use a 0.00-100.00
range for the point-coordinate spin-buttons instead of a
0-255 range.
- In the Curves tool, allow changing the curve's point types
(cf. new curve corner points in Core section). Corner points
are displayed with a diamond shape instead of a circle.
- Free Select tool now creates a selection as soon as the
polygon is closed. This selection is updated when the
polygon, or the relevant tool-options, change, similarly to
GimpRectangleSelectTool.
- Derive GimpEraser from GimpPaintbrush, instead of directly
from GimpBrushCore. This allows GimpEraser to reuse the
paint-buffer content across dabs, improving performance.
- Allow moving an intersecting pair of guides with the Move tool.
+ User interface:
- In GimpCurveView, when dragging an existing curve point,
don't immediately move the point to the cursor position upon
button press, but rather move it relative to its current
position as the cursor moves. This allows selecting a point
without moving it, and adjusting its position more easily.
- When the cursor hovers above a point in GimpCurveView, or
when dragging a point, have the coordinate indicator show the
point's position, rather than the cursor's.
- In GimpCurveView, when holding down Ctrl while
adding/dragging a point, snap the y-coordinate to the
original curve (at the start of the drag). This is
particularly useful for adding points along the curve.
- In GimpDashboard, don't show legend for groups with no meter.
- Add a tile-alloc-total variable to the dashboard's memory and
misc groups, showing the total amount of memory used by the
tile allocator.
- Add a "Save Keyboard Shortcuts Now" button to the Configure
Keyboard Shortcuts dialog.
+ Updated translations.
==== gitg ====
Subpackages: gitg-lang libgitg-1_0-0 libgitg-ext-1_0-0
- Add gitg-port-to-gtksourceview4.patch: Port to gtksourceview4.
Following this patch, replace pkgconfig(gtksourceview-3.0) with
pkgconfig(gtksourceview-4) BuildRequires.
==== grub2 ====

- Update to 1.1.1c (bsc#1133925, jsc#SLE-6430)
* Prevent over long nonces in ChaCha20-Poly1305 (CVE-2019-1543)
ChaCha20-Poly1305 is an AEAD cipher, and requires a unique nonce input
for every encryption operation. RFC 7539 specifies that the nonce value
(IV) should be 96 bits (12 bytes). OpenSSL allows a variable nonce length
and front pads the nonce with 0 bytes if it is less than 12
bytes. However it also incorrectly allows a nonce to be set of up to 16
bytes. In this case only the last 12 bytes are significant and any
additional leading bytes are ignored.
* Add build tests for C++. These are generated files that only do one
thing, to include one public OpenSSL head file each. This tests that
the public header files can be usefully included in a C++ application.
* Enable SHA3 pre-hashing for ECDSA and DSA.
* Change the default RSA, DSA and DH size to 2048 bit instead of 1024.
This changes the size when using the genpkey app when no size is given. It
fixes an omission in earlier changes that changed all RSA, DSA and DH
generation apps to use 2048 bits by default.
* Reorganize the manual pages to consistently have RETURN VALUES,
EXAMPLES, SEE ALSO and HISTORY come in that order, and adjust
util/fix-doc-nits accordingly.
* Add the missing accessor EVP_PKEY_get0_engine()
* Have apps like 's_client' and 's_server' output the signature scheme
along with other cipher suite parameters when debugging.
* Make OPENSSL_config() error agnostic again.
* Do the error handling in RSA decryption constant time.
* Ensure that SM2 only uses SM3 as digest algorithm

==== python-urllib3 ====
Version update (1.24.2 -> 1.25.3)
- Fixup pre script: the migration issue happens when changing from
python-urllib3 to python2-urllib3: the number of installed
instances of python2-urlliib3 is at this moment 1, unlike in
regular updates. This is due to a name change, which consists not
of a pure package update.
- Provides/Obsoletes does not fix the issue: we have a
directory-to-symlink switch, which cannot be handled by RPM
internally. Assist using pre script (boo#1138715).
- Fix Upgrade from Leap 42.1/42.2 by adding Obsoletes/Provides:
python-urllib3, fixes boo#1138746
- Skip test_source_address_error as we raise different error with
fixes that we provide in new python2/3
- Add more test to skip as with new openssl some behaviour changed
and we can't rely on them anymore
- Unbundle the six, rfc3986, and backports.ssl_match_hostname
- Update to 1.25.3:
* Change HTTPSConnection to load system CA certificates when ca_certs, ca_cert_dir, and ssl_context are unspecified. (Pull #1608, Issue #1603)
* Upgrade bundled rfc3986 to v1.3.2. (Pull #1609, Issue #1605)
- Update to 1.25.2:
* Change is_ipaddress to not detect IPvFuture addresses. (Pull #1583)
* Change parse_url to percent-encode invalid characters within the path, query, and target components. (Pull #1586)
* Add support for Google's Brotli package. (Pull #1572, Pull #1579)
* Upgrade bundled rfc3986 to v1.3.1 (Pull #1578)
- Require all the deps from the secure list rather than Recommend.
This makes the check to be run always and ensure the urls are
"secure".
- Remove ndg-httpsclient as it is not needed since 2015
- Add missing dependency on brotlipy
- Fix the tests to pass again
- update to 1.25 (bsc#1132663, CVE-2019-11236):
* Require and validate certificates by default when using HTTPS
* Upgraded ``urllib3.utils.parse_url()`` to be RFC 3986 compliant.
* Added support for ``key_password`` for ``HTTPSConnectionPool`` to use
encrypted ``key_file`` without creating your own ``SSLContext`` object.
* Add TLSv1.3 support to CPython, pyOpenSSL, and SecureTransport ``SSLContext``
implementations. (Pull #1496)
* Switched the default multipart header encoder from RFC 2231 to HTML 5 working draft.
* Fixed issue where OpenSSL would block if an encrypted client private key was
given and no password was given. Instead an ``SSLError`` is raised.
* Added support for Brotli content encoding. It is enabled automatically if
``brotlipy`` package is installed which can be requested with
``urllib3[brotli]`` extra.
* Drop ciphers using DSS key exchange from default TLS cipher suites.
Improve default ciphers when using SecureTransport.
* Implemented a more efficient ``HTTPResponse.__iter__()`` method.

redirecting to cross-site. (Issue #1510)
- Added support for key_password for HTTPSConnectionPool to use
encrypted key_file without creating your own SSLContext
object. (Pull #1489)

private key was given and no password was given. Instead an
SSLError is raised. (Pull #1489)
- Require and validate certificates by default when using HTTPS
(Pull #1507)
- Added support for Brotli content encoding. It is enabled
automatically if brotlipy package is installed which can be
requested with urllib3[brotli] extra. (Pull #1532)

* Early-out ipv6 checks when running on App Engine. (Pull #1450)
* Change ambiguous description of backoff_factor (Pull #1436)
* Add ability to handle multiple Content-Encodings (Issue #1441 and Pull #1442)
* Skip DNS names that can't be idna-decoded when using pyOpenSSL (Issue #1405).
* Add a server_hostname parameter to HTTPSConnection which allows for overriding the SNI hostname sent in the handshake. (Pull #1397)
* Drop support for EOL Python 2.6 (Pull #1429 and Pull #1430)
* Fixed bug where responses with header Content-Type: message/* erroneously raised HeaderParsingError, resulting in a warning being logged. (Pull #1439)
* Move urllib3 to src/urllib3 (Pull #1409)
- Drop patch 1414.patch merged upstream
- Refresh patches:

- removed ready-event.patch: applied upstream
- disabled more dysfunctional tests
- restored ability to build with openSUSE <= 13.2
- removed python-certifi dependency, we don't want to use it
- drop 0001-Don-t-pin-dependency-to-exact-version.patch because it's
not needed anymore
- re-enable tests, re-add relevant dependencies
* don't exclude test_util.py
* exclude proxy timeout tests that fail for spurious reasons
- urllib3-ssl-default-context.patch - use set_default_verify_paths()
if no certificate path specified and verification not explicitly
disabled
- urllib3-test-ssl-drop-sslv3.patch - don't use "SSLv3" constants
in python 2.7.9 and up
- ready-event.patch - fix race conditions in timeout tests
- drop %pre section because apparently "egg-info as file" is no longer
true and this breaks builds
- Delete the system egg-info during pre phase: older versions of
the package installed it as a directory, the latest update
creates a file, and rpm has known issues with replacing this.
- add python-pyOpenSSL, python-certifi and python-pyasn1 requirements
- Comment out test requirements, as tests are disabled anyway, and
one of these packages depend on python-requests, which depends on
this package resulting in a circular dependency for openSUSE <= 13.1
- Update to version 1.12
* Rely on six for importing httplib to work around conflicts with
other Python 3 shims. (Issue #688)

* python-wheel
- Update 0001-Don-t-pin-dependency-to-exact-version.patch
- Disable tests for now, as there require network
==== python3 ====
Version update (3.7.2 -> 3.7.3)
Subpackages: python3-curses python3-dbm
- Set _lto_cflags to nil as the package is using LTO via --enable-lto.
That will prevent to propage LTO for Python modules that are
built in a separate package.
- bsc#1130840 (CVE-2019-9947): add CVE-2019-9947-no-ctrl-char-http.patch
Address the issue by disallowing URL paths with embedded
whitespace or control characters through into the underlying
http client request. Such potentially malicious header
injection URLs now cause a ValueError to be raised.
- Fix metadata of patches.
- Rename boo1071941-make-install-in-sep-loc.patch to
00251-change-user-install-location.patch which is the original
name, so it can be looked up in the Fedora VCS.
- Mark distutils bdist_wininst command unsupported
with 00316-mark-bdist_wininst-unsupported.patch
- Remove Windows bdist_wininst executables from runtime package
- Update to 3.7.3, which is the maintenance release without any
significant changes in API.
- Updated patches:
- CVE-2019-5010-null-defer-x509-cert-DOS.patch
- distutils-reproducible-compile.patch
- python-3.3.0b1-fix_date_time_compiler.patch

[opensuse-factory] Request to remove nginx-ingress-controller and its dependencies
by Michal Rostecki 21 Jun '19
by Michal Rostecki 21 Jun '19
21 Jun '19
Hi,
I'm a maintainer of nginx-ingress-controller package which is an
implementation of ingress controller in Kubernetes. IC takes care of
exposing services for the external access from the Internet.
nginx-ingress-controller is quite uncomfortable to maintain. It depends
on nginx plugins which sometimes are older than 3 years, have no
updates, are not maintained and don't have release tags. We already have
one better alternative IC packages in Kubic - it's called Traefik. I'm
also going to work on packaging Istio soon, which comes with its own IC
implementation.
That's why I submitted delete requests for nginx-ingress-controller and
its dependencies:
- https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/711371
- https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/711370
- https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/711369
- https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/711368
- https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/711367
- https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/711366
- https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/711365
- https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/711364
- https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/711363
- https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/711362
- https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/711361
- https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/711360
- https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/711359
Please let me know if anyone disagrees with removing nginx modules and
sees some interest in having them packaged in openSUSE. But I don't want
to maintain them anymore.
Thanks,
Michal

Thanks, but I guess SUSE is not an independent company and is under Red Hat control.
You selected a type-2 hypervisor because of popularity? OK, look at other type-2 hypervisors and you will find better options.
SUSE never put Xen on installation DVD because of Red Hat.
Look at : https://royal.pingdom.com/linux-popularity-across-the-globe/

and I want to know why SUSE preferred a type-2 hypervisor
(KVM) over a type-1 hypervisor (Xen).
You are making a big
mistake:
openSUSE !=
SUSE
openSUSE is a
community project, and the result is what the community
is deciding and doing. And the community is
everybody who submits
changes, fixes and
packages.
If you install a
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (so a SUSE product, not
an openSUSE product), you can choose between
XEN and KVM during installation.
So your
claim about SUSE and XEN is wrong.
Else the openSUSE Community did wrote in the
forum already, that your
claim is wrong even
for openSUSE and that you are looking at the wrong
places.
And if you look at the
number of users of XEN and KVM, it's pretty clear
why KVM is on the DVD and not XEN. It's the
reality of how many people
are using
something.
