[opensuse-factory] [Tumbleweed] Disable serial console?

I am using a GPS as a reference clock for NTP. It's currently attached via a USB serial adapter, but the PPS timing precision is limited by the USB interrupt handling. I want to see if things get better by attaching it to the (only) RS232 port, but AFAIK that is used (optionally? I think) for a serial console during boot. The running system doesn't seem to use the serial, at least I can find no getty process attached to it. So, do I need to do anything to disable the serial console and if so, waht exactly? [opensuse-factory] leap 15.0 - shouldn't the partitioner re-use existing swap?

I thought I would do a full reinstall this time - just server pattern on a xen guest. [opensuse-factory] Different go versions in Tumbleweed

Hi, does it make sense to have 5 different go versions in Tumblweed while the really old 1.4 is the default which does not even support cross compilation? Running `update-alternatives` to use 1.9 is not enough becuase GOROOT still links to the 1.4 path so I manually have to change it. And to make it worse if I install just the package `go` all of these versions are pulled in. Maybe Go 1.4 is needed to bootstrap Go compilation but besides that do we really have to keep all the Go versions because of the First Factory Policy? As far as I know we do not keep other old packages (at least not the old version) around in Tumbleweed even though they are in SLES. Can't we do this for go or at least not pull in all the in between versions and change the default to the latest go package? Regards Tim

[opensuse-factory] TW Runlevel3 shows very large fonts in console

Hi, When Tumbleweed is installed on my second drive and I boot to runlevel3 the fonts are about 36 pts. How can I make a screenshot when in console for a bug report? How can I reduce the size of the font? Is any one else experiencing this? Cheers! [opensuse-factory] phonon4qt5-backend-gstreamer causing deadlocks in KDE

Situation: Fresh TW install with KDE. Anything that attempts to show notifications will freeze indefinitely. Hardware: Phenom II, AD1988B HDA audio codec. Examples: * plasmashell showing the “new updates” notification from PackageKit * Konsole getting a bell signal Uninstalling the GStreamer backend (which I had suspected because GStreamer is full of deadlocking bugs, by design) or switching to libvlc fixes this issue. PS: This pants-on-head retarded MicroFocus SSO service that is required for signing into boo fails to send confirmation emails to addresses containing a + sign because it urlencodes them… Or else I would have filed an issue, possibly with a backtrace, likely pointing to some mutex in gst. But I’ve wasted too much time on that now. Whom do I contact to report such issues? I have not the slightest idea. This huge corporate wall wouldn’t let mere mortals pass… I find that thing extremely inappropriate for *open*SUSE, with the registration process and whatnot. Actively harmful to the distro’s image, too.

[opensuse-factory] Status of x264 libraries in the standard distribution

Dear all! I'm one of the Remmina and freerdp maintainers just working on the next version of this product. freerdp would allow us to connect to windows systems using the x264 codec which is currently not supported by openSUSE. Enabling x264 would allow the client to use the hardware decoding and thus increase speed and save energy. Is there any plan to include the required library into openSUSE? Are there (still) licensing preventing openSUSE from doing so? [opensuse-factory] Automatic mounting of removable media ... Broken.

Hi All, Running openSUSE Tumbleweed 20180221, KDE Plasma 5.12.1, KDE Frameworks 5.43.0. I'm not sure after which recent snapshot release (within the last 2 weeks) has caused a new issue. Specifically, auto-mounting of removable devices. Four external USB drives connected. In the 'Removable Devices - System Settings Module' the 'Enable automatic mounting of removable media' is selected. Despite this, on boot, none of the devices are auto-mounting. This was working up until quite recently. Clicking on 'Device Notifier' and then the respective media will open in a file manager (and hence mount the drive). Can anybody shed any light on how to make this work again? Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, Week 8 of this years brought 7 snapshots (0215, 0216, 0218, 0219, 0220, 0221 and 0222), with some nice enhancements: * LibreOffice 6.0.1.1 * KDE Frameworks 5.43.0 * KDE Plasma 5.12.1 * Linux kernel 4.15.4 * The upstream fixes for the Mesa/Qt5 shader corruptions * Distro packages now support SPDX-3.0 license tags * MPEG2 patents expired, so various multimedia frameworks already started enabling it That sounds like a productive week – and looking at the staging, there is no end in sight. Those changes are work in progress: * Glibc 2.27 * Linux kernel 4.15.5 * Mozilla-nss 3.35 * KDE Plasma 5.12.2 * And I’m sure I missed something Cheers, Dominique
