Hi everybody,
This is a great job for somebody that wants to help, but does not feel
comfortable writing code (yet) - raise your hand and claim the task; or
form a team to drive this to completion
based on https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1039994 I would
like to reach out for your help.
The bug in short: if you are in yast / software / pattern view,
many/all devel patterns use the same icon (and others too)
I'd like to hear proposals on what kind of icons we should use for what
…
[View More]patterns. If you could just submit the needed icons into the yast theme
package, that would be awesome. As a 2nd step we'll have to update the
pattern files to actually reference those new icons.
When collecting upstream icons, make sure to validate the
redistribution licenses!
Thanks for your help,
Dominique

Hi,
I just ran into an application that requires MySQL 5.6 and does not
support MariaDB.
I then noticed that mysql-community-server is no longer available for
Tumbleweed.
$ zypper se mysql-community-server
Loading repository data...
Reading installed packages...
No matching items found
Is that intended? Is there an intention to phase it out from Leap as well?
Thanks,
Robert

==== crash ====
Version update (7.1.5_k4.4.71_1 -> 7.1.8_k4.4.72_1)
- crash-xen_add_support_for_domU_with_linux_kernel_from_3.19.patch:
Since linux kernel 3.19 crash readmem() can't be used to read
xen_p2m_addr associate memory directly during m2p translation.
PV domU p2m mapping is also stored at xd->xfd + xch_index_offset
and organized as struct xen_dumpcore_p2m. This patch implements
a special reading function read_xc_p2m() to extract the mfns
from xd->xfd + xch_index_offset and makes and crash support Xen
PV domU dumpfiles for kernel 3.19 and later (bsc#1043501).
- add crash-xen_add_support_for_domU_with_linux_kernel_from_3.19.patch
- Merge SLE changes into Factory (bsc#1041638)
- crash-stop_read_error_when_intent_is_retry.patch: When reading a
memory image fails it may not be an error if it is still possible
to switch image and retry the read. Fix the error message output
to only occur if no retries are intended (bsc#1038839).
- add crash-stop_read_error_when_intent_is_retry.patch
==== drm ====
Version update (4.9.30_k4.4.71_1 -> 4.9.31_k4.4.72_1)
- Rephrase the package description for avoiding the confusion
(bsc#1044176)
- Update to 4.9.31 to follow the upstream development (bsc#1041744):
* drm/radeon/ci: disable mclk switching for high refresh rates (v2)

proxy. This avoids the FalseCONNECT attack. bsc#1022468
Also, don't allow 401 and 407 responses to set cookies.
* Pop openssl error stack on every error - make sure that SSL
errors on one connection do not affect other connections
* Never select directfb driver automatically unless started with
the '-driver directfb' option
- previously patched:
* Disable SSL compression to avoid the CRIME attack bsc#1022469

* Fixed a bug in the X driver that characters with unicode codes
128-255 could not be entered with some locales
* Security bug fixed: Use separate unix domain socket for anonymous
instances, so that the anonymous instance won't connect to non-anonymous
one [boo#992495]

gpm stops drawing the cursor when the mouse is moved).
* Pring "^" and "_" for and tags in text mode
* An option to fake Firefox in the HTTP header. It modifies User-Agent and
several other options to be more Firefox-like. This option is also
automatically turned on when "Connect only via proxies or Socks (useful
for tor)" is selected. It makes it safer to use Links with tor.
* Fixed quadratic complexity in the text renderer when exteremely long
lines were used

Am I right in thinking that something has changed (to me rather
drastically for the worse) in the latest update
(konsole-17.04.2-1.2.x86_64, Tumbleweed 20170613)?
Previously there was an empty space on the tab bar to the right of the
open tabs where a double click would open a new tab - this seems to
have gone away.
Is there any configuration change that will get the old behaviour back
(I can't see one)?

- Make sure "lock" group is created
On SUSE distros, /run/lock must be owned by "lock" group (see
boo#733523).
This group was previously created by another package but since a
recent changes it doesn't seem to be true anymore or at least this
package isn't pulled in anymore when building the rescue system.
For now make systemd creates the group by adding
"Requires: group(post)".
I'm currently not sure why we don't use sysusers.d stuff for that
purpose and if the "lock" group on /run/lock is still
mandatory. This should be revisited later.

The new compat rule must be embedded in the initramfs so make sure

The database might be missing when upgrading a package which was

called) but the new version start shipping unit files.
- Fix indentation in systemd-sysv-convert
While at it, strip trailing whitespaces.

Hi,
As announced in December¹, Leap 42.3 is already open for
submissions. We shouldn't expect big updates in 42.3, nevertheless
some went in already, like texlive 2016. Also, some packages that we
already know SLE will take from Factory also got updated like e.g.
YaST. So far the current state looks quite good in openQA² so the
adventurous may already zypper dup.
What's missing still is a roadmap for the release. SLE12SP3 aims for
a release in September. Due to the holiday season in August …
[View More]where
many developers are likely unavailable anyways development is
expected to be finished before. So my proposal would be to also
finish with Leap before and aim for a release at the last Wednesday
of July.
With regard to the release model I'd like to try something new.
Rather than having fixed milestones with fixed submission deadlines
every few weeks let's try to adopt a model similar to Tumbleweed's.
Ie have snapshots released automatically based on openQA results.
Nevertheless the closer we get to the release the stricter the rules
for updating packages have to be.

I tried to set up this printer with the privided PPD file via both the KDE
settings as well as the Yast2 printer interface, but ended up failing.
So I followed the instructions instead which used the web interface at http://
localhost:631/.
The manufacturer provides the drivers and instuctions here, but they are for
openSUSE 12.3 aqpparently:
http://www.sprt-printer.com/news_1659_2794.html
The printer successfully printed a test page after I ran through their
instruction, but I am …
[View More]wondering whether it is possible that I missed a generic
driver for this printer in the cups database, or I missed a step setting up
the printer with the KDE and/or Yast2 module.

[opensuse-factory] [Leap 42.2-42.3] YaST2 Qt Software Manager unresponsive for minutes when loading kernel change log
by Roman Bysh 22 Jun '17

Hi all,
I was reading the information on the different tabs for kernel-default,
until the "Change Log" tab was selected. Clicking on the "Change Log" tab
caused the Software Manager to freeze up.
The following packages cause the freeze up:
kernel-default
kernel-default-devel
kernel-devel
kernel-macros
kernel-source
kernel-syms
With "kernel-firmware" you click on then click on the Change Log tab.
Next, try to select the package below called kernel-macros. It also freezes up briefly.

The is more noticeable with Leap 42.3. I haven't checked Tumbleweed yet.
Cheers!

Although I have a satisfactory use of kmail with pop3, I still are
regularly confronted with duplicates. These duplicates can be found
with akonadictl fsck. I manually dispose of these dups, thereby loosing
both copies.
Found two troublesome effects of the manual disposition of duplicate
emails (the remove duplicates from the main toolbar just makes two
shrill sounds) let me loose both copies of the email and afterwards I
see a lot 0items mentioned by a illegible number with following …
[View More]info:
"Found 10 items without RID."
Have looked around, googled etc. but did not find a explanation about
these RID items.
And last but not least, I thought that after an email is read, it
moves from "new" to "cur". I found that in several cases this did not
take place. So now I regularly clean it up manually.
Others seeing the same? Time for a bug report? Kmail or akonadi? :)

after last update of TW (running kde plasma), icon sizing, control (icons),
fonts etc have all gone haywire (icons e.g. system settings/yast are miniscule
+ many others, fonts in dolphin look awfull, bizare sizing between standard
and directory font). I checked configs against diff of backup and all settings
are the same. Having spent the last hour tweaking there are some things that
cannot be fixed (control icons e.g. close window).
I have belatedly come to the conclusion something has …
