[opensuse-factory] Installing Tumbleweed fails (nvidia?)

I just decided to install Tumbleweed on my desktop (I already run it happily on my laptop for 16 months...) First fun thing: I was greeted by the Xmas Penguins bootscreen! I didn't even know that it's still around. Must have been 15 years at least since I saw them last time. Beatuiful :D Then the not so nice thing: I cannot install. At least not in default mode. It gets to the point when it starts the installer. I only see a underscore in the upper left corner for some seconds, and then monitor goes into powersave. First thought it's the 4k screen, and tried running the installer at lower resolution, but still the same. So I assume it's the NVidia GTX 1060 that is giving the trouble? Anyone had similar trouble before? [opensuse-factory] fcitx to write in CJK in calibre

Seasonal greetings mailing list! I was wondering whether there is a recommended method for writing in CJK within calibre. I am currently searching by pasting the CJK text from Kate into the search bar in calibre. Closest thing I could find on the issue for openSUSE was found here, but it is probably a bit old to follow along: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=244887 Some digging also brought me to this bug report, though I do not know how to remedy the problem. https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/15569

[opensuse-factory] Action-Required for Packagers re: /var/adm/fillup-templates move

Hi Packagers, As previously discussed on the opensuse-packaging mailinglist, we are moving our location of fillup-templates from /var/adm to /usr/share https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-packaging/2017-11/msg00017.html In order to do this as smoothly as possible we are using a new %_fillupdir macro so spec files can inherit the new location, while still defining the macro as the old location for older distributions to not change anything there. https://en.opensuse.org/index.php?title=openSUSE:Packaging_Conventions_RPM_… As promised, this is the official notification that the new %_fillupdir macro is now present in Tumbleweed and should be used in all specfiles instead of /var/adm/fillup-templates The original plan was going to require all package maintainers to modify their specfiles to use the new macro. However, while taking care of the packages I am interested in for Kubic I decided to do the work for all 207 affected packages. So package maintainers, all you should have to do is review & accept the OBS Submit Requests from me referencing boo#1069468, the tracker bug for this issue. The submit requests include the compatibility definition for older distributions. Feel free to remove it if you do not need to build that package for older distributions. Please do what you can to accept and forward these requests to factory as quickly as possible, especially for those packages also used by SLE & Leap. I am hopeful to get the btrfs subvolumes simplified once these changes are complete, so I need your help to get these done promptly. [opensuse-factory] Sound delayed when playing via HDMI

When I play a video i.e. in Firefox or VLC or when I use Musescore, the sound is not in sync with the picture. It is delayed about 1 second. When I go back to VGA and the analog sound device, sound is in sync. I searched for it on Google, but did not find a solution. [opensuse-factory] Leap 15 status update 20171220

Hi, Leap 15 is slowly getting into shape. Two weeks ago integration of packages that were in 42 but not in 15 started. Of the ~6000 submit requests most are in, including alternative desktop environments like XFCE. ~1500 requests are left to sort out¹. Also, there's finally a working NET iso. So for the curious certainly worth to give it a try already. Leap 15 followed the switch to openssl 1.1 which caused quite some build failures. The efforts in Factory to get rid of Python 2 in favor of 3 in the base system are also mirrored in Leap. Some helping hands to fix resulting build failures in Factory² will help Leap 15 too and would be highly appreciated. Feel free to just branch packages and submit fixes back to their devel projects, no special permissions needed! With all the heavy changes going on, the previously targeted release date early in the year unfortunately turned out to be too ambitious. A release in May looks more realistic at the moment. We have to see how things progress next year though. As soon as the remaining requests are down to a reasonable amount, semi-automatic submission of new packages from Factory will start. If you are a package maintainer watch out for review requests you have to take a decision about. [opensuse-factory] Builds failing due to removed javah

Merry Christmas to everyone! Two days ago Factory has received the update to the Java DK 10, which removed the standalone javah tool: https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8182758 JEP 313: Remove the Native-Header Generation Tool (javah) This leads to build failures in several packages, as configure scripts and the like are still looking for javah.
