Hi, I would like to contribute a small tool to Factory: F3 (Fight Flash Fraud / Fight Fake Flash) This package contains tools for identifying fake flash drives (primarily USB sticks and memory cards). A fake flash drive fraudulently inflates its apparent storage capacity (far) beyond the physical capacity of its flash memory. Not surprisingly, using such a flash drive will, sooner or later, result in data loss and/or corruption. The main tools in this package, f3write and f3read, are an open-source implementation of the H2testw algorithm. Other experimental tools are also provided, among them one for using the actual storage capacity of fake drives as safely as possible. [opensuse-factory] Use pvops-enabled kernel for Xen (fate#315712)

Hi, you have probably noticed that the SUSE virtualization developers have been working on porting features from the kernel-source patches.xen series to the upstream Xen implementation. This mostly works nowadays, so at the SUSE Labs Conference last month, we agreed to finally get rid of kernel-xen in Factory and instead use kernel-default with CONFIG_XEN (the mainline option) enabled. I prepared a branch on github https://github.com/michal42/kernel-source stable-noxen which does exactly this. Test packages are building here: https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:michal-m:kernel-stable-noxen The kernel boots and works on my machine, both on bare metal and under the hypervisor (*), but there is some integration work to be done before it can be submitted to Factory: - The installer needs to cope with kernel-xen not available and choose kernel-default. Something like the attached patch should fix it (untested). - perl-Bootloader: Right now, it creates a Xen multiboot entry if the kernel is named -xen, otherwise it creates a regular linux entry. Create both entries if the Xen hypervisor is installed? - kernel-xen needs to be dropped from the patterns, but that's trivial - We have been building a kernel-obs-build-xen package for the OBS workers, which now disappears. Of course, there is lot more work to be done in making the xen -> pvops transition seamless in all corner cases. But that should not be a barrier to pushing the kernel to factory. (*) With the -default kernel, I do not see the kernel messages on the serial console with kernel /boot/xen.gz com1=115200 console=com1,vga module /boot/vmlinuz-4.2.2-0.g980fcdb-default ... console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200 while I see them with kernel-xen. [opensuse-factory] I cannot install Tumbleweed using the 20160116 ISO

Hi guys! I downloaded the 20160116 ISO from openSUSE website and checked the sha256 hash (the full medium, 4.3 GiB). After that, I used SUSE Studio ImageWriter to create a bootable USB stick. When I booted using this USB stick, instead of the usual installation screen, I see this one: http://paste.opensuse.org/33367391 Can anyone help me? This happens when I boot using either UEFI or Legacy Boot. [opensuse-factory] Application:Dochazka devel project

Does anyone have an opinion on the Dochazka[1][2][3] application getting its own devel project in Factory? I considered Peter's suggestion to submit all the missing dependencies from devel:languages:perl to openSUSE:Factory and then to do the same for the Dochazka packages. I have started submitting the missing dependencies, but after some consideration I don't think it makes sense to put the Dochazka _application_ projects into the d:l:p "megaproject". Dochazka is an Attendance & Time Tracking application - the fact that it's written in Perl is incidental. Thanks for any responses! [opensuse-factory] New package buzztrax

I stumbled on a package that looked interesting in multimedia:apps called buzztard. After a search, I found that upstream had renamed it buzztrax and it had matured quite a lot so I updated and worked on it and reported some build issues to upstream. I was pleasantly surprised to find one of the two main developers "ensonic" was eager to have the package in openSUSE and helped to make the final product for submission to Factory. It is a music editor akin to closed source windows Buzz and has excellent offline help facilities including a step by step tutorial. On Dell Inspiron 13 Laptop with Skylake processor, touchscreen and touchpad, the touchpad is without function since last friday. I don't know, if kernel update or other patch is reason. Hi I posted this on the Buildservice ML a few days ago, but didn't get any replies, so maybe should have posted here? Hi, I am trying to build pacemaker (1.1.13) on OpenSuse 12 SP1 GPA. But when i try to build it with check , i get error for clang. When the build tries to execute the scan-build command it fails. I have installed the dependent llvm and it build successfully yet there is a dependeny error. Some history As you may know, up to now the default PIM suite for Plasma 5 in openSUSE Tumbleweed was the KDE PIM 4.14, based on kdelibs 4.x. While upstream KDE has offered a KF5-based version since Applications 15.08, it has been originally marked as a technology preview, so we (the openSUSE community KDE team) thought it would be more prudent to stick with the 4.14 version (but offer the KF5 based PIM as an option for the daring). Fast forward to today: KDE Applications 15.12.1 have been released, and we’ve been testing and using the KF5 based PIM suite for all these months with no issues. In addition, PIM developers have been adding interesting new features and impressive speed optimization (see the blog post by PIM developer Dan Vratil), and at the same time dropped support for the the 4.14 PIM suite. What does it mean for openSUSE? This means that from the next openSUSE Tumbleweed snapshot, the old PIM 4.14.x packages will be replaced by their KF5 counterparts. Most settings should be migrated automatically, and the mail store is set in a DE-independent location, so you should not lose any data. You have two options for upgrading: 1) Start from scratch Simply recreate all your accounts in the new interface and redownload all your mail. This works best with IMAP (with setups and if you have enough bandwidth. 2) Use the PIM settings exporter You can export all your mail from KMail: under the Tools menu, there is the option Import/Export KMail Data, which you can use to create an archive with all your mails and account configurations. You need to do this before upgrading, then use the same option in KMail after upgrading to the KF5 based version to have all your accounts, calendars and mail set up. Caveats The 4.14.x and KF5 versions of the PIM stack are incompatible with each other. Therefore if you do not fully upgrade the system you will get strange issues. Ensure you update with zypper dup or with the equivalent option in YaST to ensure that all packages will be picked up. Bugs Bugs? What bugs? Dear all, I write you as the author of Orthanc [1,2], a software for medical imaging. Firstly, I would like to give a quick insight about the goal of the Orthanc project. The volume of medical images that are generated, analyzed and exchanged by hospitals is dramatically increasing. Multimodal medical imaging is indeed the first step to the treatment of more and more illnesses, such as cancers or cardiovascular diseases. In turn, the data management of clinical images and the administration of the computer network of a medical imaging department imply continuously growing technological challenges. Tasks such as autorouting between imaging modalities, exchanging data between clinical departments or hospitals, or anonymizing images are still hard to achieve in practice, as hospitals are strongly dependent on their providers (lock-in). The DICOM standard is a file format and a network protocol that rules all of these medical workflows. Obviously, it is important from the point of view of the respect of the freedoms of hospitals and patients, to have free/libre software that contributes to a better, independent handling of such flows and that hereby contributes to solve the problems described above. This led us to the development of Orthanc, a lightweight, versatile vendor neutral archive (aka. mini-PACS, or DICOM server). Orthanc is conceived as a central, robust building block to bring technological independence to clinical departments, by automating their very specific imaging flows and by creating gateways between proprietary ecosystems. Besides its good support of DICOM (both the file format and the network protocol), Orthanc also comes with a REST API, a Lua scripting engine and a plugin SDK: These three mechanisms allow system administrators and developers to extend the core of Orthanc to fit their own needs. Orthanc is already available for Debian, Fedora and Docker, but I feel it would be useful to bring it to openSUSE users. The "medical" devel project would probably be the best place to put it [3]. As a consequence, by the present message, I would like to warn the openSUSE community that I am planning to package Orthanc. I have no fixed deadline, so the packaging process might take some time. I will send a "submit-request" to the Factory once it is ready. [opensuse-factory] kdialog and the latest snapshot

HI I've got a back up script running at logout, its does a few rsync's but i use kdialog to display a passive popup prior to each rsync to monitor the progress. I press logout and get the blue splash as expected as the desktop disappears and as it tries to display the first popup, it crashes with an error that is almost immediately covered by my original desktop layout (task bar included sometimes). The backup script carries on happily and displaying all rest of the popups as per normal (on the desktop displayed), it completes fine and then redisplays the blue splash and then returns to the KDM login dialog. i've tried this on a different login on the same machine and it works fine. It came in a routine update to openqa as an added requirement to define 'distribution' in the perl test configuration files. What loops would I need to jump through to get a devel project for Dochazka? Dochazka is an Attendance & Time Tracking System. It is being developed in Perl on openSUSE, using the Open Build Service. Hello there! Till now the default ccache location has been: DEFCCNAME=DIR:/run/user/%%{uid}/krb5cc Kerberos has added support for kernel keyring support for quite a while, so now it is a good opportunity to consider moving default ccache location to kernel keyring instead, which brings several advantages: - Avoiding involving the file system to reduce potential surface of attack. - Using kerberos utilities while in another user's shell (acquired by su or sudo) will no longer throw "credentials cache not found" error. The move is unlikely to cause compatibility issues between Kerberos and identity management solutions such as SSSD and Winbind. SSSD reads the ccache location settings from kerberos and will adapt to the change automatically. Winbind supports keyring-type ccache and goes even further to commend it being "the most secure and predictable method". However, the following components require more thorough testing and/or additional patches to be made: - YaST windows domain membership module The module generates configuration files for file-based ccache, could it generate configurations that use kernel keyring instead? - SSH, NFS utilities, mod-auth-kerb I am not yet sure whether these components can also make use of kernel keyring, need more investigation. Apart from those components above, are there other things I am missing? Comments and suggestions are welcome. Nice to finally have the new spectacle. After ksnapshot was deleted I was anxious awaiting its replacement. Trying to start spectacle I found that the expected hotkey for spectacle is not activated. An oversight? Went to /usr/share/khotkeys and found the file spectacle.hotkeys with which I could not begin anything. Worth a bugreport? I'm very new to openQA and am trying to learn how to use this tool using the provided documentation. But it seams there are gaps in the docs that would tie everything together in a clear manor. Following the directions in the openQA Getting Started doc: In the section titled "Testing openSUSE" I ran the /usr/share/openqa/script/fetchneedles script as stated and then the "/var/lib/openqa/tests/opensuse/templates --apikey xxx --apisecret xxx" script under the "Getting openQA configuation" section as stated. I noticed that this templates command copied down a bunch of files including test scripts and put them in /var/lib/openqa/tests/.... After downloading an ISO to /var/lib/openqa/factory/iso directory, according to the subsection titled "Adding a new iso to test" I can run a test by issuing the "/usr/share/openqa/script/client ..." command, correct? But would if I just want to run the firefox tests located in "/var/lib/openqa/tests/opensuse/tests/x11regressions/firefox/sle12/..." ? How would I go about running these? I would also be interested in any other documentation that may exist that is more complete or even video showing examples on how to set up and run openQA tests. Thank you, Charles Robertson

[opensuse-factory] why oss/suse/setup/descr/packages.gz download always timeout?

Hi, download.opensuse.org is not usable from my area for some time. A mysterious fact is that zypper install wasn't affected too much even for large RPM downloads. The problem happens when the repo gets refreshed. It always timeout here or there, on those small metadata like icons...packages.gz...package summary/description translations...and etc. I know we use MirrorBrain. I just wonder if the metadata and the actual RPMs are fetched from the same place? how can I diagnose such a problem? [opensuse-factory] openQA First-time install login failure

Following the instructions in the openQA installation doc (https://github.com/os-autoinst/openQA/blob/master/docs/Installing.asciidoc) I arrived at the section entitled "Run workers." After installing the worker package (zypper in openQA-worker) the doc says to log "into openQA as operator and create a pair of API key and secret." Upon doing so and entering my credentials I was taken to a page that said "Welcome Charles Robertson" in the top right asking to "Confirm Response" with USERNAME, EMAIL, etc. After clicking the "Confirm" button I get "Unable to connect: Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost." I was careful to follow the instructions correctly in the doc, doing everything exactly as shown. I tried repeating the procedures several times thinking I missed some detail (which I did not) only to get the same results. Any ideas on what is going on and how I can fix this will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Charles Robertson

[opensuse-factory] Introducing linux-tools

I would like to introduce linux-tools into Factory. Some tools are now provided by the mainline kernel, including but not limited to : - cpupower - usbip - perf (already build in kernel sources) That means these packages have to get dropped from factory to get replaced with kernel build-in versions. So, as Tony asked me to discuss it on the mailinglist (what I better should had make in a first place), I would like to know if there is any objection. Regards. Hello, I had somewhere in my mind than the printer module of YaST had been rewritten. I hope it's not the case or the Leap one is not this, because it's a big mess. I have two printer, one HP, the other Brother. I first tried YaST. Installed the HP (usb) printer without problem. I couldn't install the Brother (network) printer because the necessary ppd file was not present. Not a big deal, I downloaded the Brother installer. The result was the Brother printer installed as hp printer... with the same connection as the HP printer, so that any print targeting the Brother printer was printed (sort of) by the HP one!! This may not be YaST fault. But in Yast I couldn't fix the problem. Impossible to remove a wrong line in the "edit" part of the yast module, I could only add lines. When asked to enter an URI, I tried 192.168.0.17 (the printer IP), refused (->incorrect URI), 192.168.0.17:9100 refused. I tried to remove the two printers in the first YaST windows, but this didn't remove the faulty lines in the "edit" windows. Thanksfully I could add my two printers in a snap with cups original interface. May be the only problem is the lack of examples (the cups pages gives thee examples - the best for the Brother printer is "socket://192.168.0.17:9100" and this is for years). The ppd was added by the Brother installer. But there should definitely be some way (obvious way) to remove bad lines in the editor. I've installed TW snapshot 2016.01.08 today, when i choose to add repositories to installation, there's still a bug with adding repositories... [opensuse-factory] Is there a problem with "kernel-syms" at OBS

Oracle just released VirtualBox 5.0.12. When I tried to do the normal local test build with osc, I get the message "unresolvable: nothing provides kernel-pv-devel = 4.3.0-2 needed by kernel-syms, nothing provides kernel-xen-devel = 4.3.0-2 needed by kernel-syms". Removing the "BuildRequires: kernel-syms" line allows the build to get past this point, but it fails later. Any suggestions or comments? Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, This is the first review of the year – and will cover the four snapshots 20151231, 20160101, 20160105 and 20160107. First off, we heard about your issues with Plasma5/Akanodi/KDEPIM5. A short explanation: only things up to ring2 are tested in stagings to not break with checkins. Up to now, kdepim4 is in ring2 (as part of the default patterns, it is installed). kdepim5 is not. And thus, breakage, direct or indirect, is hardly seen. I heard from the KDE Team that there is a plan to correct this – then we will see kdepim5 as part of the rings and get more testing attention, as it deserves. Now, to the ‘better’ news – what did you get with those 4 snapshots: * Plasma 5.5.2 * KDE Framework 5.17.0 * KDE Applications 5.12.0 (sadly, not complete, which causes above mentioned issues) * Mesa 11.1.0 * Rework Tumbleweed theme, based on the new graphics. Some minor glitches here and there to be corrected * and as usual, all the smaller library updates What are the things to expect soon: * Hopefully a fully working and stable Plasma environment with a complete set of KDE Applications 5.12.0 * systemd 228: still pending as our test machine loses network connectivity after updating from 13.2 * gcc 5.3.1: some more failures to fix with yast/boost: gcc got a bit more consistent and raises -Wdeprecated-declarations to errors when -Werror is also passed. This in turn makes some yast modules fail to build (yast uses -Werror, but the deprecation warnings come actually from boost). [opensuse-factory] ksnapshot replaced by kscreengenie, but does not migrate

After updating somewhere around 20160107 I noticed, print scrn btn no longer works. I've installed TW snapshot 2016.01.08 today, when i choose to add repositories to installation, there's still a bug with adding repositories... [opensuse-factory] VA-API support in Mesa and chromium video acceleration

There had been a prior attempt to enable VA-API support in Mesa (back in Feb 2015), but it was reverted due to a build dependency cycle. The cycle was caused by: libva -> Mesa-libEGL-devel, Mesa-libGL-devel Mesa-libva -> libva-devel I decided to follow the format of libvdpau-va and libvdpau-va-gl packages. Their source seems to be broken up so it was probably natural to break the package up like that. For libva I split off a linked package called libva-gl. - libva: builds everything except gl related - libva-gl: builds libva-egl1 and libva-glx1 This changes the dependency cycle to the following libva -> [nothing mesa related] libva-gl -> Mesa-libEGL-devel, Mesa-libGL-devel Mesa-libva -> libva-devel As you can see this solves the cycle issue. The remaining concern I have is that the Mesa libva driver only generates one file: /usr/lib64/dri/gallium_drv_video.so. When utilizing (for example with vainfo) one needs to specify LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME. LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME=gallium vainfo On intel cards the libva support is provided by a separate (already existing package) instead of through gallium. The driver file it provides is named appropriately that it should just be picked up. Having to set the environment variable seems sub-optimal and is even documented on arch wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VA-API) Instead providing symbolic links for each of the drivers seems to properly fit the paradigm used by vdpau and base drivers. For example creating the following works on my radeon setup. radeonsi_drv_video.so -> gallium_drv_video.so Setting the environment variable is troublesome: 1) where to set it 2) would need to test for other drivers installed (like intel) Instead it seems like the symbolic links are the way to go. If agreed they could either be added directly in .spec %install, or patched to make install (and perhaps upstreamed). Which seems like the most appropriate solution? I'll hop in #dri-devel and perhaps mesa-dev list and get their thoughts. Finally, I spent many hours searching around the interwebz to figure out the history and state of chromium video acceleration via VA-API. - vdpau is not supported and issues about it have not gone anywhere - va-api works on chromeos so the code is there - support was temporarily enable by intel commit, but quickly reverted There is a out-of-tree patch to change the build flags to look for LINUX instead of CHROMEOS and a tweak to remove the hard coded paths and allow for libva discovery. I managed to get the patch to apply after forward porting it and branching my patched package to build chromium-ffmpeg patch on packman build service (pmbs). Once all the components were installed locally I was able to start chromium and confirm it worked by playing a 4k video on youtube. The 4k video has the most noticable cpu usage and it was clear it dropped significantly. I also used gallium hud to verify increase gpu usage. The end result was the video played the same as if downloaded (via youtube-dl) and played locally in vlc!! Some notes: - installed h264ify chrome extension to force html5 video to use h264 codec instead of h265 or vp9 which are not supported by VA-API yet - previously flipped two flags in chrome while testing a while back - Override software rendering list - Enable GPU rasterization -> enabled I can not set LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME and chromium reverts back to extra cpu usage (also comepare with google-chrome which doesn't have va-api). I need to verify if the patch makes that redundant (I believe it does). Otherwise, it would be good to add that to the patch or change the default values shipped in openSUSE chromium package. My plan going forward then was to add recommends Mesa-libva to chromium along with the patch and submit an SR once the rest of the dust settles.
