[opensuse-factory] 13.1 Milestone 2 and Skype -- problem

I have 3 x86_64 boxes where skype used to work but since upgrading from Milestone 1 to Milestone 2 I only get a buzzing sound like 50Hz hum. On the same network I have Kubuntu 13.04 boxes on which skype works properly. If I start skype (4.2.0.11) test or someone tries to call me on the M2 boxes there is just this buzzing sound that continues until I close skype. It's a standard sound setup with pulseaudio. All other apps work normally, playing flash movies, SDR radio, etc., no problem. I wonder if anyone else has noticed the same problem or even has it working properly. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... Hi, i am about to create the submit request to factory for devel:languages:perl/nrun. nrun runs a single command or script on a multiple of target servers synchronously much like dsh or pdsh do but it is written in perl which makes it easier to extend for special remote access solutions. i originally wrote the tool for the solaris operating system but i think it may be useful on linux too. from the description: nrun will run a single command or script on a multiple of target servers synchronously. ncopy will copy a file or directory to multiple target servers. the underlying remote access mechanism is exchangeable. as of now, ssh, nsh, rsh and local execution modes are implemented. the return code and all command output will be logged. Hi, Ben & listmates, Here's the case I ran into (bnc#821877): Our unzip can't detect CJK charsets, so it unzips them into folders like "口口口", which can't be opened by file managers and impossible to delete by rm command. So most of the users will consider this as a blocker. The cause of this problem is that we use librcc to detect charset in zip formats(librcc use dynamic engines for this task, so it masks other functions like iconv on purpose, which means you can't apply _any_ further chaset patch besides librcc). But our librcc is built without libguess support, which is responsible for CJK charset detection. Well, although libguess has been landed in devel:libraries:c_c++ for a while, it didn't get submitted into Factory, no need to mention released versions. For new version like 13.1, the fix will be easy: submit libguess, fix librcc, done. But for maintenance, I can fix librcc, then it requires libguess. Our maintenance policy doesn't seem to allow brand _new_ packages. Any exceptions? Hi, I'm working on update for linphone. So far I updated libosip2[1], libeXosip2[2] and ortp[3]. When all accepted I want to update mediastreamer2 and I want to move it from current devel project d:l:c_c++ to network:telephony. I saw K:D:F has mediastreamer2 _link to build kopete against it and nothing more. So fixing _link after propsed change will be trivial ;) Any objections about changing mediastreamer devel prj? snapper claims to work with lvm but I have had any luck trying to create a config. last thing I tried was: # snapper -c home create-config -f "lvm(xfs)" /home Creating config failed (invalid filesystem type). # mount |grep /home /dev/HnS/Home on /home type xfs It's an xfs formatted filesystem on an lvm partition. lvm(xfs) is even given as an example... Ideas? or is it brtfs only? I've just reverted my test-system to Yhr, and ran a zypper dup. When I now try any of the modules, I am again immediately returned to the main menu. Hi, This is an announcement for those of you using darktable from graphics repo or factory repo. There will be some changes in how darktable uses thumbnail cache files. If you encounter problems with this release please use bugzilla to report any findings. Because compression code is disabled previous cache may not work. Removing ~/.cache/darktable/mipmaps is necessary If you are not using graphics repo then you are not affected (yet). Factory repo takes time to get included but you can factory version from graphics. Hello guys, as of now we have mlocate [1] package in factory do you think it would be wise to remove the findutils-locate as whole to only keep this implementation which is faster and more reliable around? When I checked other distros like fedora [2] or gentoo they both patch it out. Hi all, Long story short: Alternative Milestone 2 installation images with Ruby YaST created by the YCP Killer project are available here: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/YaST:/Head:/ruby/images/iso/openS… (~3.8GB) http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/YaST:/Head:/ruby/images/iso/openS… (~860MB, only package subset, select "Minimal X" or "Textmode" software selection) And here is the full story: Introduction ------------ You might already know the YCP Killer project [1] by which we want to replace our specific YCP language used in YaST by Ruby. The transition to Ruby is automated, we created a translator from YCP to Ruby and improved the core YaST so it can run Ruby modules. Our goal is to switch all our YaST modules from YCP to Ruby in openSUSE-13.1. The most critical part of YaST is the installer which cannot be easily updated on already released media. Therefore we need broader testing before this switch to avoid installation failures on large scale. That's why we created alternative ISO images for installing openSUSE 13.1 Milestone 2 with YaST converted to Ruby. Downloads --------- We have two installation images with converted YaST installer, "fullDVD" which is basically the Milestone 2 DVD ISO and "miniDVD" which contains just a subset of packages needed for "Minimal X" installation (or "Minimal Text Mode", the other software selections will fail because of missing packages). "fullDVD" is recommened, but if your download speed is slow or you have a download limit then you can try the "miniDVD". (Note: we built the ISOs _after_ the official M2 images so there might be some small changes in package versions, the images are not 100% compatible with M2, but they are very close. So rather use the official M2 release for testing and reporting non-YaST issues.) The ISOs are available here: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/YaST:/Head:/ruby/images/iso/openS… (~3.8GB) http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/YaST:/Head:/ruby/images/iso/openS… (~860MB) (We built only x86_64 images to save OBS resources, sorry, no other architectures.) Installation ------------ You need to manually add "insecure=1" boot option because the ISOs are not signed by the official openSUSE GPG key. You will also need to accept the OBS YaST:Head:ruby GPG key when adding the installation repository during installation. Alternatively to full installation you can switch to YaST Ruby later after installing the official Milestone 2. As root run this: # add YaST:Head:ruby zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/YaST:/Head:/ruby/openSUSE_Factory/ YaST:Head:ruby # replace all YaST packages, use distribution upgrade to allow vendor change zypper dup --from YaST:Head:ruby Then you can test Ruby YaST in installed system, use it the same way as the classic YCP YaST. Testing ------- We already did some minimal testing to ensure the image installs, but we need more intensive testing. So use the images as usual openSUSE installation images, try configuring various system properties, try different hardware/software setups... We only changed the YaST implementation language, so the look&feel of YaST is (or actually must be) the same as in the classic YCP YaST. The automatic translation to Ruby also means that a bug in YCP YaST will be also present in Ruby YaST (bug compatibility). Known bugs ----------- - There is a segfault printed at the console at the end of the first installation stage just before reboot, but it happens at the very end when YaST is exiting and should be harmless. - When using non-English language some texts are not translated (button labels, messages...). - Installation from images is not supported (not available on the medium), the installation proposal will just inform about this. - The ncurses control center in installed system starts for very long time (~2 minutes) For other bugs see the GitHub link in the next section. Bug/Success Reporting ---------------------- We are focused on bugs in YCP to Ruby translation, if you find a bug which is also present in YCP YaST in the official M2 then use the usual bug reporting via bugzilla. If you are unsure you can try the same in the official M2 or you can report it anyway, we will check it. (Of course, it would be nice if you could do that so we are focused on real bug fixing.) Also report slowdowns or other different behavior not observed in original YCP YaST. For reporting bugs use GitHub issues (GitHub account needed): https://github.com/yast/ycp-killer/issues It would be also great to get some positive feedback to know how many people tested our installer and know what has been already tested and works. After a factory update the system would not boot. I built a new system from the 13.1 Milestone 2 DVD. After changing to factory repos and using zypper dup, the system no longer boots. The last message seen on console was "udev creating device nodes". I don't know if this is related to the other problems I see on the list due to fstab's entries using /dev/disk/by-id The following message repeated on tty1 and that's where it's stuck:- Welcome to emergency mode! After logging in, type "journalctl -xb" to view system logs, "systemctl reboot" to reboot, "systemctl default" to try again to boot into default mode. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No login prompt is ever reached. Hi, I'd like to submit gitslave [1] to factory. According to its home page "Gitslave creates a group of related repositories—a superproject repository and a number of slave repositories—all of which are concurrently developed on and on which all git operations should normally operate; so when you branch, each repository in the project is branched in turn" The project is currently hosted in devel:tools:scm [2] and I've created sr 179398 [3] for it . The current version of Berkeley DB in openSUSE is 4.8, which looks somewhat old, given that Oracle has released a 5.x and in fact has already arrived at 6.0. There are only very few API changes that need patches (in other packages). I have already submitted some. Current state is in home:jengelh:db6. The plan is to submit libdb-6_0 quite soon. I'd like to submit a new package called numad to factory. This is a system daemon that attempts to identify processes that should be bound to NUMA nodes to improve overall performance on machines with multiple nodes. In preparation for working on the next stage of in-kernel automatic NUMA balancing support I compared current in-kernel automatic NUMA balancing, numad and manual tuning. In some cases numad can out-perform the current in-kernel implementation although in other cases it will actually perform worse than running with defaults. The expected cases where it performs better and worse are documented in the RPM description and the manual page. https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=numad&project=home%3Amgorman What is less clear to me is what project I should submit this to. I set the RPM group to System/Daemons and the Base:System devel project looked like a reasonable fit. When I start 'Terminal' (xfce-terminal), I get multiple error messages when I used to get none in the previous release. What do all these mean and how do deal with them? (what do I need to configure or turn on or what?) I'm trying to make systemtap work on 12.3 x86_64.
