https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=804052 NM installs itself as alias for network.service and no more checks for NETWORKMANAGER in /etc/sysconfig/network/config. So switching from NM to ifup using YaST2 has no effect as /etc/init.d/network is never run anyway. I have the factory Packman repo enabled and have tried to get Audacious working on this 12.3 testing macine Installing just Audacious and the packages it pulls in I get this error if I launch it from the command line. "WARNING: Audacious seems to be already running but is not responding. "FATAL: No output plugin found." If I install the Audacious pulse output plug-in I get this error when I launch it from the command line. WARNING: Audacious seems to be already running but is not responding. *** ERROR: /usr/lib64/audacious/Output/pulse_audio.so is not compatible with this version of Audacious. [opensuse-factory] System unbootable problem

Hi, I would not normally ask about a 12.2 bug on the factory mailing list, but in this case: (a) The consequences are severe (can't boot) (b) It doesn't appear that it has been fixed (I could be wrong) (c) Therefore: it might still be a problem in factory (d) There has been a lot of grub2 discussion, which this bug may help inform The bug is https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=804065 I tried to find a similar bug in case this is a duplicate, but could not. It didn't help that there seem to be hundreds of unresolved bugs relating to grub/grub2. If this has been fixed already or whatever, sorry for the noise. Any thoughts? Thanks, -Archie -- Archie L. The updated Plymouth looks very nice! However I can confirm Johannes's observation: when I shut down, the geeko fades nicely to blackness then briefly appears at 100% opacity before final shutdown, which somewhat ruins the effect. Hello everyone, I'm working now on Mate project and n.marques told me that we can't provide mate-file-manager-gksu, derived from nautilus-gksu, for a reason but I don't remember why. I verified and see that gksu is not available on OpenSuse. Question: 1. does it existing a replacement of gksu ? If yes, do we can build mfm-gksu with this one ? 2. Hi I would like to merge thin-provisioning-tools to factory, Base:System (see request 151471). It is my understanding that thin-provisioning-tools should be in same place as lvm2 (which needs them to support thin-provisioning, which is currently supposed to be supported by yast partitioner - see bnc#802136). However: "I don't think that Base:System is the best place for this package. Let's do the following: Please email opensuse-factory, introduce the package and ask where it fits best. In my 13.1 Milestone 0 I am not able to open the .kwl file. In 12.2 I just open the manager and I am able to check all data of the kwallet. May be that is the reason that my kmail does not receive and send any emails. Evey time my kmail starts a download (pop3) I have to give kwallet te password. Somebody with the same problem? Coolo, In b.n.c, Bug 799937, which was filed on 20130122, I reported that the kernel-firmware package was outdated and that certain firmware files are missing. I am still waiting for follow-up info, but it is possible that Bug 801681 is also due to the outdated firmware. I know we are in a feature freeze for 12.3, but is it still possible for this package to be updated? I get a DHCP address but none of the connections go through. rcnetwork start shows: redirecting to systemctl restart network.service" Job for network.service failed. I logged a report at https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803515 It covers: I tried a clean install of 12.3-RC1 iso openSUSE-12.3-NET-Build0024-x86_64.iso After the install these things happen 1. start goes to a text mode login prompt - no gui start at all. 2. no network connected,cannot access any remote service, cant ping anything remote. 3. When I plug in a usb drive nothing shows up. Questions: How can this be fixed so I get a gui [kde] start, a network connection, and a usb mounted device. Has anyone else encountered these problems with 12.3-RC1 ? Perhaps for the next release of openSUSE, we could get multi-touch working. With tablets and mobile devices being ever more popular, it is important that we stay current with the technologies. Mtdev does provide multi-touch and Xserver now also has multi-touch in it. Having said that, multi-touch, even with mtdev, doesn't seem to work very well, if at all. An on screen keyboard should be available at log in (KDM or GDM, etc). [opensuse-factory] Problems with network module in YaST2, NetworkManager and IPv6

After generating an openSUSE 12.3 RC1 system, with updates till today, in a Virtual Machine I notice that YaST2 has configured the network to use the Traditional method with ifup. However the command ifdown does not work and it reports that NetworkManager is active. Starting networkmanager as a user makes it possible to change parameters, so apparently NetworkManager is active. However there is no icon in the task bar afrter the start. One can start the UI networkmanager via Alt+F2 and typing networkmanager or via System Settings -> Network and Connectivity -> Network Settings. Changing to NetworkManager in the network module in YaST2 apparently does not make any difference. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=803008 My main interest in testing 12.3 is in IPv6. So I tried some settings in the UI for NetworkManager for IPv6. I found that after changing a parameter, the preference for which automatically generated IPv6 address to use, one needs a reboot for these parameters, to become effective. There is no warning after changing such a parameter. Another observation is that the prompt for the root password is not popping up in your face, but is hidden behind the networkmanger user window. Apparently the default is that the automatic generated host part of the IPv6 address from the MAC address should be used, however this is not the recommended setting. Hello release team, the colour management front end KolorManager contains a component called KolorServer from last years GSoC. That project aimes at bringing ICC colour correction to KWin and thus to the whole KDE desktop. KolorServer is the Oyranos dependent part, which was developed in parallel to KWin-4.10 internal changes. We have a ICC colour server already in openSUSE called CompICC, which works very well with old style Compiz. But requests und suggestions where made since quite some time to bring that feature to a mainstream window manager, and that was by chance KWin. An other cool change is the new Taxi DB support, which connects KolorManager to icc.opensuse.org. With some luck a fitting monitor profile is offered for installation to the local system. After quite some testing and bugfixes, KolorManager 1.0.1 was released around two weeks ago. At that time I became ill and had to suspend my work on the stack. Today I tested a oS-12.3 KDE image, added KolorManager and KolorServer from multimeda:color_management. Both work fine inside KDE/KWin. Hi, All & KDE maintainers, In Pastebin plasmoid, we have two unique service providers for paste.opensuse.org http://opendesktop.org/content/show.php?content=141038 and paste.opensuse.org (I failed to find its source) But we have a bug that pastes sending from those two service proviers are set to `never expires`. Because if you use the web GUI, it is set to "1 week". After some digging, I find it's even not what the author intended to do. Because in imgsusepasteorg/contents/code/main.js, he set the `expiry` to `1440` which means `1 Day`. Then I downloaded the stikked-0.5.4.zip (https://stikked.googlecode.com/files/stikked-0.5.4.zip) in system/application/views/defaults/paste_from.php, the id is actually `expire` instead of `expiry`. He failed to transfer the value for expiry, so pastes sent from there were set to `never expires`. So we need to change those two files in kdebase4-workspace package: /usr/share/kde4/apps/plasma/shareprovider/pasteopensuseorg/contents/code/main.js /usr/share/kde4/apps/plasma/shareprovider/imgsusepasteorg/contents/code/main.js and set `expiry` to `expire`. I didn't see our "suse tweak" for those two files in spec file, it seems to be from upstream, so we need a developer who has commit permission to fix it upstream. PS: We also have this problem for 12.2/12.1, so if we want to save our server, we have to make an update for them. Hello! Out of curiosity I've tried to enable UEFI and to setup opensuse via a USB stick containing the 12.3RC net-install CDROM. The installation runs nicely, but at the end I can't boot from the partition (it's a physical PC containing only one hard-disk with only the installation I've tried). After that I tried a installation with grub-efi, but this (and the elilo selection) told me that it does not support booting x86_64 versions... Are there any guidelines which can help me? Does anybody have experience with EFI? Hi all, Is it just me, or does PackageKit (Or rather, pk-backend-zypp in this case) not respect libzypp package locks at all? I noticed this earlier today when Apper's updater applet attempted to install a locked (non-installed) "recommended" dependency after an update to one of the base packages (patterns-openSUSE-enhanced_base_opt, I think) whereas both YaST and zypper behaved as expected by not marking locked packages/dependencies for update/installation. Is this behavior by design, or am I encountering a bug in the PackageKit(-backend) here? Regards, -F. Hi, apper in tumbleweed needs PackageKit-Qt but that needs newer PackageKit from GNOME:Factory (0.8.7). We currently have PackageKit 0.7.4 from GNOME:STABLE:3.6. Of course adding PackageKit+PackageKit-Qt from GNOME:Factory fixes the apper, but I'm not sure what it will do with GNOME packages in tumbleweed. Hi, I just tried to evaluate a simple bug and in the process I found that I blocked libreoffice from the live cds in september and as such not a single milestone was released with libreoffice on live cds. That's unfortunately nothing I can readd now as libreoffice is worth at least 65MB. My plan was to pimp the live cds to be 1G and run from stick, but I never had the time to do that ;( So I guess our 12.3 live cds will have to live without libreoffice. Hi, I updated the 12.3 repos over the weekend, but unfortunately the latest openssl security update is broken, so we checked in this morning a fix, which hopefully fixes the problem. Fortunately zypper doesn't require openssl to work, so you should be able to repair your setup - but just so you know: better not update now and rather wait a couple of hours. Hi, I've just installed 12.3 RC1 - it seems that installed went well through all "traps" I've used, like usefi (not secure boot), btrfs on /, sssd and so. The only one thing what have suprised me was when I've configured Kerberos, clicked on Next. Then Yast window have dissapeared, but nothing have happened. And I was unable to type on any terminal seems to be opened, so only way how to finish an installation was to reboot a laptop. Anyone saw the same issue? Regards Michal Vyskocil

I only put 12.2 on it from scratch a couple weeks ago and have not used it much since. I don't have any devel repos that have ever been added to the zypper repo list. ie. Everything currently installed is from 12.2 official and/or 12.2 upgrades. Hi release team, The Pulseaudio package currently in Factory causes an issue (Specifically: A 2 - 4 second delay before event sounds are played) with KDE event notifications (This seems to be a recurring problem on distros using PA 2.1 in combination w/ KDE >= 4.9.x [1]). Will PA 3.0 (Which fixes this issue) make it into 12.3? And if not, can the maintainer please add the following patch [2] from PA's 'stable-2.x' branch? [opensuse-factory] Problems with 12.3RC1,/Gnome/Radeon HD 6450 screen-background

I see a strange behaviour which I have seen lot's of times with Gnome 3.6 versions on opensuse 12.2; I didn't see the problems with beta1, but now they are back again. The thing is: The screen background is displayed correctly until the gnome menu appears on the top. Heya, I've installed openSUSE 12.3 beta1 on my system. Now I would like to have the latest version (as close to 12.3 as is possible) on there so I can not only test but also make screenshots and screencasts with the new artwork added since Beta1. What repositories should I have enabled? I understand that 'Factory' is open for new package versions, so that's moving beyond 12.3 already. So where is the 'real' 12.3 repo, then? https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Factory_installation does not answer my question, worse, it points to tested factory repositories which haven't been updated in 6 weeks (so I'm guessing either factory doesn't pass openQA or something else is wrong). /Jos

Hi All, I'm using 12.3-ß1 and can't get Yast2 to set the NTP server. When I have selected the server (bigben.cac.wa.edu) and tested (which returned successfully) and then try to save the configuration it returns an error "Cannot adjust ntp service". This has been observed in all the 12.3 series, not just ß1. In perusing the log files I don't see anything pertinent to this problem. I've tried installing RC1 but am having other problems during the installation process with build0024. Will wait for a further build. Anyone have a suggestion on what I should do or where to look for a solution? I was starting to build my own packages (without obs) for 12.3 today, but sadly there are several things I had to change in the sl12.3.conf of the build tool to get it start building. Hello, I just read, that openSUSE 12.3 is already feature freeze now... syslog-ng just released 3.4 RC1 now and we expect a final release in the coming weeks. The beta was running stable on my machines for weeks. It's a leaf package, not installed by default. I wonder, if I could still update syslog-ng from 3.3 in Base:System and in Factory to 3.4RC1 and later on to 3.4.1 once released. I had problems with root on LVM and booted from installation in rescue mode. No device node for LVM was available and no group was active. I activated them but still no device node. Apparently now "rescue mode" on DVD simply does "systemctl isolate emergency.target". So nothing is started including udevd. After manually launching it and reactivating LVM I finally got access to root. Hi, I am testing 12.3 with NFS based installation but unfortunately this is broken currently. When specifying "install=nfs://..." boot parameter, the system hangs before fetching the installation system via NFS. This does not happen when specifying "install=http://...", so it may be a problem with the NFS module of the 3.7.x kernel/initrd? Running wireshark on the NFS server shows that nothing arrives there, so the install system seems to block before making any NFS requests. The bug was reported here: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=799496 but it's still stuck in the screening phase and I fear it may not make it until 12.3 final, hence this post. Hi, Yesterday I upgrade my virtual machine via zypper dup to current opensuse snapshot. After dup system works fine. Problem happen when I reboot. Then system stuck during boot. Few notable things I see * plymouth boot failed with see systemctl ... * xdm start succeed but nothing shown * I get no console where I can login ( even if systemd start all services except failed plymouth), how can I login to obtain some logs or see what and why failed? after 11 minutes multiple lines of segfault in mandb start occuring with lines mandb[<pid>]: segfault at 7fffd708c000 ip 00007fc543de5a6b sp 00007fffd7089fe8 error 4 in libc-2.17.so[7fc543d5e000+1a3000] If I boot with 3 to just console with X it stuck same way ( just no xdm of course ). In this case mandb do not print segfaults. Any ideas how can I proceed at least to console login and to start debugging it? Whenever UEFI Secure Boot is talked along with Linux, the first thought that comes to our mind is Windows 8. Though UEFI Secure Boot is not something new or synonymous with Windows 8 but Microsoft made Secure Boot popular particularly when it was initially discovered that Windows 8 devices won't allow Linux to boot. Since the introduction of gstreamer-1.0 into Factory we now have a mix of programs and libraries linking against one or the other. The trouble is that the gstreamer-* libraries do not use symbol versioning and in some cases progams end up linking to both versions, mostly through indirect shared library dependencies or object which are dlopen'd at runtime. E.g. currently all GTK2/3 applications indirectly link to gstreamer-1.0 through the libcanberra-gtk-module and some directly link against gstreamer-0.10 at the same time, see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=800963. While this particular case may be solved by removing libcanberra-gtk-module as Dominique offered, there are probably more of such cases and there is the problem that people developing on openSUSE will run into trouble when linking against certain combinations of libraries which have different gstreamer versions in their dependency tree. This new package includes the following: Cleaner plymouth booth theme with fade down on shutdown (myself). Welcome text in multiple foreign languages have been removed to address user concerns (eg. bnc#801872) Improved Grub 2 Theme (by myself & anditosan) - this Grub2 theme is not only in the 12.3 style but attempts to make the display of the terminal window more acceptable than the clashing black square we had to deal with in 12.2 Improved xfce splash in 12.3 style (victorhck) Updated gfxboot backgrounds (tux93) These improvements will improve the users first experience with 12.3 when they first boot up their ISO/CD/DVD, which is why we cant realistically provide these improvements through 12.3/Update We don't expect any more changes to this package, and if they are, it is almost certain they will be best delivered as Updates (ie.
