Hi, As we have no real estimate when the build service will be in a working state again, I can't forecast when we will have the first builds to test either. There were also problems with the backend storage system and the entire build system that happened at a critical time. The boot system of the Live CDs is different than the other products, and it is difficult to debug. After working with building my own Live CDs for 5 days, I have learned a lot, but I still can do little more than report the symptoms to Coolo. Fixing anything will require a lot more knowledge. The specific problem with the Live CDs was related to the change in /usr that is part of 12.2. I have no idea why no new ones have been built. Both Gnome and KDE versions build here just fine. I just put the following on my blog as well (http://jaegerandi.blogspot.de) and look forward to your help defining a better policy: The openSUSE security concepts have been changed gradually over the years with new tools like PolicyKit, PolKit and its usage in system tools. It's time now to step back, and review what we have and want. Marcus and Ludwig from the SUSE security team and myself have discusssed over the last weeks a bit and like to open this to a broader round now to get your help defining what needs to be done. = Challenges we face = Administrating a system in a secure way is always balancing the needs and requests of security, convenience and usability. There's also the additional challenge that upstream projects often have a different view on either of these and therefore make different decisions and influencing upstream projects is quite often a difficult task. = Background = Linus Torvalds in his Google+ rant (https://plus.google.com/u/0/102150693225130002912/posts/1vyfmNCYpi5) "I first spent weeks arguing on a bugzilla that the security policy of requiring the root password for changing the timezone and adding a new wireless network was moronic and wrong. I think the wireless network thing finally did get fixed, but the timezone never did - it still asks for the admin password. And today Daniela calls me from school, because she can't add the school printer without the admin password. ... So here's a plea: if you have anything to do with security in a distro, and think that my kids (replace "my kids" with "sales people on the road" if you think your main customers are businesses) need to have the root password to access some wireless network, or to be able to print out a paper, or to change the date-and-time settings, ..." = How to continue? = We've collected a couple of use cases for the administration of a local system at: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Security_use_cases For each use case we added a short security evaluation but in most cases don't give a recommendation on what to do. Hi, I just updated the opensuse-release field to say Beta 1 as the live cds work ok (even though there are some glitches) and the DVDs can be installed too (even though you don't want to create a /usr partion at the moment). All in all something I can release tomorrow *fingers crossed*. [opensuse-factory] pkgconfigdeps.sh causes huge dependency bloat

Hi: The script that generates -devel package "pkgconfig" dependencies does not quite do the right thing. It honors *.private fields even when packages do not contain static libraries, hence adding a lot of unneeded stuff into the dependency chain. I you have ever wondered why every time you build a package it downloads and inject half of the distribution into your buildroot, this is a likely candidate to look in ;-) Will be cool if someone can take a look at it. I've got a request from 'damianator' for GNOME:Ayatana to join as maintainer; He seems to want to continue my past efforts around Unity, so I've accepted it and gave him full permissions on GNOME:Ayatana. I suppose this is the best thing to do in the best interests of openSUSE; Just reporting in case someone wants to help him out, since I know from my own experience that this is really a huge task. Trying to download .asc file for openSUSE 12.2 Beta 1 fails from http://software.opensuse.org/developer/en page. (586 version works). error message: code: ----------- Object not found, Error 404 /Code: ---------- Can this be fixed by someone on list or should it be reported to Bugzilla. MD5 and Sha1 sums check againt the downloaded DVD. Hello, I have a program which compiles fine on Opensuse 12.1 (gcc 4.6) with and without optimisation. In factory I get an internal compiler error if I use an optimsation level >0 (e.g. -O1). [opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed lokalize has dependencies on non-existent Kross components

Hi, I have an openSUSE-Current+Tumbleweed installation and when attempting to install lokalize I am informed that nothing provides kross-python. There are also dependencies on libkrosscore.so.4 and libkrossui.so.4 but there does not appear to be anything related to Kross in the openSUSE-Current or Tumbleweed repositories. As the lokalize package is available, is it just the case that Kross packages have been omitted from the repository in error?
