[opensuse-factory] Status: Beta

Hi, I just updated the opensuse-release field to say Beta 1 as the live cds work ok (even though there are some glitches) and the DVDs can be installed too (even though you don't want to create a /usr partion at the moment). All in all something I can release tomorrow *fingers crossed*. Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Meaning the /usr move is broken? I don't think that's related actually.

Good news. Any idea on how long will it take for the update to KIWILinuxRC.sh or an update to kvm to percolate through the system? I just tried Build 0395 of the x86_64 KDE Live CD, and it is still failing the expr statement when run under qemu-kvm. I am trying to find some set of zypper commands that reliably cause a failure when running under 12.2. So far no success. If you find something, attach it to bug 764741 However, just judging from the lots of "invalid access" errors that valgrind spits out, i'm surprised it does not crash more often :-) -- Stefan Seyfried "Dispatch war rocket Ajax to bring back his body!" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

openqa shows build393 already booting fine, just not installing for some reason - and I can confirm that. The fix in gmp to avoid the crash went in on midday tuesday. OK, I think I understand. I was trying Build395 with the 12.1 version of qemu-kvm and it still failed. I'm amazed that zypper runs considering the number of invalid reads that valgrind shows, even for the version in 12.1. Yeah, I've seen those seg faults, too, and I was trying to debug them yesterday. It looks as though the modalias list is getting corrupted somehow, sometimes. But I didn't find the bug yesterday, and now I can't reproduce it at all, either because I updated zypper (my binary is dated May 28, but I can't remember when I installed it) updating my repositories somehow caused it to stop appearing, or something else... Valgrind would sometimes crash on a failed assert and suggest that it may e caused by heap corruption in the program I'm debugging, and that I should fix any invalid writes that it reported, but it reported no invalid writes. Anyway, the first seg fault would happen when an item's "next" pointer pointed to invalid memory, and the other one (on exit) would happen when freeing the modalias list. -Mike G- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Tried installing DVD (64-bit) via USB-drive and DVD on two machines and got the same result - GRUB2 is broken. Previous install via KDE LiveCD (build 0393) had no such problem. Near the end of the first stage of the installation process, an error window opened with "an error occurred during initrd creation" followed by another window with "error occurred while installing GRUB2." In the messages contained in the first window was "failed to open /boot/grub2/device.map" and, in the second window, "sh: /usr/sbin/grub2-mkconfig: no such file or directory." I downloaded the DVD iso (build 0398) via Metalink so should have been a clean download but also verified md5 checksum to make sure. I'll try LiveCD and/or NET install to see if I get any better luck. -- Graham Davis, Bracknell, Berks. openSUSE 12.1 (64-bit); KDE 4.8.2; AMD Phenom II X2 550 Processor; Video: nVidia GeForce 210 (using nVidia driver); Sound: ATI SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA); Wireless: BCM4306 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Two or three people at least have reported in the forum big install problems with the dvd. At some point the process removes several critical packages. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. That sounds like a good starting point to debug this. Possibly booting the installation with ZYPP_FULLLOG=1 Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

If net installing from factory-snapshot (aka 12.2B1) you'd get same result. FWIW, http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2012-06/msg00008.html seems to be essentially the same description. Maybe someone else would have better luck finding an existing bug already filed. Otherwise, someone who does not remain perfectly satisfied with Grub Legacy (unlike me) should file one and attach Y2logs. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
