[opensuse-factory] broadcom-wl and kernel 3.6

[opensuse-factory] Splitting deb?

Hi. I saw that Marguerite has added another two Debian packages to the "deb" openSUSE package. As a user of and contributor to that package, may I suggest that we stop that (and instead do the opposite, split the package)? I don't know what the historic reasons were for collecting multiple independent source packages in one RPM. But by now this is a very big and complicated spec file which makes maintenance somewhat hard, especially when multiple people are working on it. It also makes it hard to use parts of the packaging for other purposes (e.g. Fedora already has a dpkg package, but no debhelper or devscripts package. The current deb package doesn't work for Fedora and adapting it would make the spec file even bigger [it needs overrides for the automatic perl dependencies and other changes]) If there is no opposition I would volunteer to do all the work of splitting the deb package in its components and submit them to Factory (Probably something that would be targeted for 12.3, not 12.2?). Opinions? Would it make sense to file a bug about this? Or a fate entry? Hallo all, Reading the discussion about dropping sysv init, it seems the number of people are opposing against it is big. I have an idea for people wiling to maintain and use it in the future. It is trivial to create a community project dedicated to that task. All you need is to have a devel project (Base:sysvinit), where you will maintain sysvinit and all needed init scripts. As our software stack is really powerfull, it can be done easily. This is the snippet of the spec file providing the init script for vsftpd. Name: vsftpd-sysv Description: Sysvinit script for vsftpd Supplements: packagageand(sysvinit:vsftpd) Requires: sysvinit Requires: vsftpd Source0: vsftpd.init %post %{inserv ... The biggest advantage is that there will be a group of people taking a care about sysvinit, which is better from what we have now. The disadvantage (or maybe an advantage) is that the amount of needed work will be probably huge, especially adapting on upcomming changes in Factory. I'm talking especially about Gnome, where systemd is (planned to be) integrated into core parts (gdm, gnome-session, ...) and the Supplements trick won't work here, so the $sysvinit project will be enforced to provide own packages in some cases. But in anycase, the future is in your hands ... BTW: I am not going to be a part of such project as I support systemd migration - I just wanted to raise my idea to you Regards Michal Vyskocil

Hello all, I have been having a problem in which the installer with default kernel freezes when "Searching for Linux Partitions" during the probing. This has been happening since 12.2 M1 - M3. To resolve this I add "acpi=off" to the boot options. This should not happen with the default kernel. Should I add this as a bug under "Installation" or "Kernel" in Bugzilla? -- Cheers! [opensuse-factory] Direct and indirect linkage to shared libraries with ABI changes

Hi, might be slightly off-topic, but I think there might be some people with appropriate knowledge around here. I suffered a crash in inkscape, which is caused by an ABI change in libpoppler. This is caused by the fact that inkscape links to libpoppler(18) directly, but also via libpoppler-glib8. The latter links to libpoppler18 when using the package provided by the original install media or oS12.1::Update, but KDE::Release::49 provides libpoppler-glib8 which links to libpoppler27. Are there any mechanisms in place to avoid such kind of breakage? In https://build.opensuse.org/package/rdiff?linkrev=base&package=libjpeg-turbo… support for libjpeg v6b was dropped without any comment in the changelog. Was that intended? Notice (if you care at all, otherwise ignore this) that LSB still defines libjpeg.so.62 (http://refspecs.linux-foundation.org/LSB_4.1.0/LSB-Desktop-generic/LSB-Desk…) Also notice that we are changing the default for libjpeg-turbo, and that v8 support is still not 100% complete (see README-turbo.txt). [opensuse-factory] Printing KDE-Help-Center: Too large font size?

Hi, printing help:/kcontrol/windowbehaviour/index.html from KDE help center prints with too large fonts.
