I have set permissions and modes in /etc/permission.local. Rebooted and that information is being overlooked in 12.1. [opensuse-factory] SR#74084 is being reviewed for 2 months

Hi, similar to the past post on this list, I have a SR pending for review by the legal-team. It's been 2 months since I did first submission. Then I updated the package and superseded the original SR by this one. But it's still in the review state. For few weeks without noticing again. Hi related to the systemd/sysvinit/udev problematic there is also the problem that currently zypper nor yast2 supports read only mounted partitions. It could be a win if zypper or yast would be able to detect that a path covered by a package is located on a read only mounted partition. For this I'd like to suggest an option to temporary remount such a partiton read/write during installation. This does not only help with old-fashion /usr partitons out there but e.g. also a read only mounted root file system with attached read/write mounted /tmp, /var, and maybe /etc partition, where the last one is mounted in the initramfs. Hi I would like to introduce makeself to Factory. The package currently is maintained in the utilities repository. The purpose of makeself in Factory will enable an enduser to generates a self-extractable tar.gz archive from a directory. The resulting file appears as a shell script (many of those have a .run suffix), and can be launched as is. Running Aurora under openSUSE 11.4 right now, once again release early & release often, seems to be working! "Mozilla has announced the release of Firefox 7 into the Aurora Channel. According to the release notes, the latest developer preview is "focused on delivering performance enhancements and optimizing memory utilization", addressing a problem that long-time users of the open… " So the main issues I have with the alpha is my oxygen-gtk theme not being picked up and flash-plugin, undoubtedly my faulty configuration. To my surprise the biggie plugins NoScript, Adblock Plus & WoT are already cleared and working (also HashColouredTabs+). Not bad considering release was announced July 7th - http://blog.mozilla.com/futurereleases/2011/07/07/firefoxaurora7/ Think ppl are likely to complain about lack of user visible changes, I'm finding it very familiar despite the alien GTK look, of Mozzila's 32 bit download. Thread in forum for feedback & share time saving tips, like how to get the download started - http://forums.opensuse.org/forums/english/get-technical-help-here/pre-relea… So far FF4 brought in UI changes, which are nice once you get used to it. Since then it seems mostly bug fixes and performance improvements, with Add On ppl even supporting the Alphas. Bit boring & non-buggy so far! [opensuse-factory] Installing Factory-tested from NET iso

This is probably a WONTFIX since probably not many people install openSUSE directly from factory-tested using the NET iso, but I do, so that I can look for Yast2 installer regressions. Anyway, during first boot for the past few days, I've been a dhcp error message and then boot hangs. This is right at the beginning of boot. <quote> Welcome to openSUSE 12.1 "Asparagus" etc. linux.site login : [<timestamp here>] dhcpcd[1032]: eth0: Failed to lookup hostname via DNS: Name of service not known. </quote> I have no issue downloading the packages from the openSUSE servers during install, but during boot I guess something can't connect to the internet. BTW, I'm using Systemd, I wonder if that is the problem..... Hi, the vmwgfx driver is becoming ready for testing ; this vmware written video driver is targeting virtualised system running on a vmware virtualisation tool. With the right Mesa gallium component, it enables 3D acceleration on virtualised guest, using host hardware (from windows or linux system). Is it possible to enable the kernel module for VMWGFX to be built ? It might help testing gnome-shell (with mutter ux) safely inside a vmware box. [opensuse-factory] Some second thoughts on systemd/sysvinit/udev

Hi to every one, I'd like to do some notes on the topic how become systemd or should I better say udev better integrated in the current system scheme regardless of the used init. First of all as already mentioned the real problem why e.g. old-fashioned /usr isn't supported as an own partition by systemd (or better systemd warns about such a fact) is that the rules expanded by udev do not know about dependency orders on boot passed through by systemd as well as by the traditional sysvinit. This will lead e.g. to problems for the faciltiy `$remote_fs' defined by LSB specs. To solve this problem the udevd should be able to understand the dependencies of the services provided by the boot scripts of sysvinit as well as the dependencies of the systemd service configuration files. It would be perfect that achieving such dependencies could be understood as events within udev rules. The question is how to expand and resolve e.g. the LSB dependency rules of traditional boot scripts or e.g. the systemd configuration files for udev. IMHO this would require at least also a notification for udev which could be done by systemd and for sysvinit within the main boot scripts or the startpar utility used by main boot scripts. Currently udevadm seems to be able to do this on base of devices.
