Hello, I have a little sound problem with kde. * where are located the kde error logs? I don't see them in /var/log ("sound device removed" say a message that flashes and desapear) - I would like to look at them and if necessary share them :-) * is there a place with a kernel update history (that is a list of kernel updates with the date they where pushed)? I have the same problem with 11.3 (2.6.34.7-07) and 11.4RC1 (2.6.37), but's it recent the problem is the following: at start kde issues a message saying "the sound card was removed, do you want me to forget it?" but after that the sound works pretty well. This was not the case say 15 dayx ago. so I wonder if it's a hardware problem (my computer is new - less than 1 month) or a software problem. I couldn't fix it with the help of the openSUSE forum. if it's a kernel problem, I can open a bugzilla. [opensuse-factory] untraceable instability with Kernel:/HEAD

i've been using Kernel:/HEAD, X11:/XOrg, and the latest nvidia driver for a long time on openSUSE 11.4 (x86_64) with KDE 4.6 (KDE:/Distro:Factory) without any real problems. since 10 days or so my system freezes now & then with no recognizable pattern, leaving no traces in Xorg.0.log, messages, or anywhere else as far as i can see. downgrading one or two kernel versions and to older nvidia drivers, even 256.53, didn't change anything; yesterday i downgraded to the oldest kernel i still have, 2.6.37-41-desktop, and so far everything runs stable. this doesn't really bother me, since for my use there isn't any noticeable performance hit with the older kernel, but i'd like to find out what's going wrong. is that what Kernel-trace is for? if yes, how would i go about to trace these crashes? -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help(a)opensuse.org

[opensuse-factory] starting with full HD video

Hello, I just installed 11.4RC1 with the net cd, it works well. However I couldn't have the install in the full HD 1920x1080 as most new mo,itors uses this size, it's a problem. Of course, after the start the openSUSE *is* full screen, but neither the install nor the boot time (it was the same for 11.3) I *have* the option available from the "f2" option at the first boot menu of the install cd, but it don't seems to work. [opensuse-factory] RC1 of openSuse 11.4: fix kernel modesetting

Unfortunately we still do have a problem with kernel modesetting as confirmed by different members of the openSuse Core Test Team. As described in https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25052 there are problems with kernel 2.6.38-0.0.12 while kernel-2.6.38-rc2-0.0.7.4bf0e68 has worked better. Unfortunately I did not have time yet to bisect the issue. So please do ship with kernel-2.6.38-rc2-0.0.7.4bf0e68 (or sooner) for RC1! [opensuse-factory] pam_mount leaves stuff in /dev/mapper

Hello list, I am using a home partition that is encrypted with LUKS. A passphrase is used to authenticate and the volume is automaticaly mounted at login through pam_mount. After upgrading fom oS 11.3 to oS 11.4 RC1 this does not work correct anymore. The first login works, but when I logout and then try to login, pam_mount prints only some error logs and does not mount the volume again. The reason is that the partition is not unmounted from device mapper. The mountpoint (/dev/mapper/_dev_sda3 -> /home) is cleaned from mtab, but _dev_sda3 is still present in /dev/mapper. When I close the LUKS volume manually with cryptsetup luksClose _dev_sda3 /dev/mapper is clean and I can use pam_mount again... Till the next logout. Is this a new feature in pam_mount 2.8? (oS 11.3 used version 1.34) Is my volume declaration in /etc/security/pam_mount.conf.xml the problem? <volume fs="crypt" path="/dev/sda3" mountpoint="/home" options="fstype=ext4,acl,user_xattr" /> Best greetings Buschmann -- Das Gesetz hat zum Schneckengang verdorben, was Adlerflug geworden wäre. Here's a short note as to the status of some recent activity in the openSUSE:Tumbleweed repo: - kernel packages finally got updated to the latest .37 release thanks to some preload package help. If there are any problems with this, please file bugs, as these will also affect the 11.4 release - LibreOffice has been added to the repo. Any update problems please let me know, it might be a bit wierd with the OpenOffice_org packages being removed, but it worked for me in my testing. - I'm adding all of the yast2 packages from openSUSE:11.3 and openSUSE:11.3:Update in anticipation of a libzypp update, so you will see these packages update with no change at the moment, until libzypp is checked in. This was tested to work properly in the openSUSE:Tumbleweed:Testing repo previously and should all be safe. - aaa_base was added to the repo to get the updates that have been done in there to make this package "more sane". Any questions/concerns about these, or other recent Tumbleweed changes, please let me know.
