I only get a crappy two line after boot with
ExecStart=/sbin/rsyslogd -c 5 -f /etc/rsyslog.early.conf
ExecReload=/sbin/killproc -p /var/run/rsyslogd.pid -HUP /sbin/rsyslogd
in it
it should contain something like that
# cat /run/systemd/syslog.core
# Warning: Do not edit as this file has been and will be autogenerated
# by /lib/systemd/system-generators/syslog-service-generator
[Service]
Type=forking
PIDFile=/var/run/rsyslogd.pid
Sockets=syslog.socket
StandardOutput=null
ExecStartPre=/bin/systemctl stop systemd-kmsg-syslogd.service
ExecStartPre=-/var/run/rsyslog/addsockets
ExecStart=/sbin/rsyslogd -c 5 -f /etc/rsyslog.early.conf
ExecReload=/sbin/killproc -p /var/run/rsyslogd.pid -HUP /sbin/rsyslogd
so my first action was to remove klogd rpm which remove the 25 opensuse-pattern I have
after discussing with B Wiedermann it seems that gdm force it, but I don't have gdm installed.
I've try to run /lib/systemd/system-generators/syslog-service-generator
manually to generate a new /run/systemd/syslog.core but it just do anything
How can I debug it ?
Why it's not able to create the syslog.core in /run/systemd/ ?

Hello,
I don't know if this a a failure from my own network or from RC1, but
this morning I zypper dupped my factory install after changing repos
to 12.1 as instructed.
After a reboot, all worked well, but no network. I couldn't make
knetwork manager to display anything, got back to traditional ifup
with yast, rcnetwork restart and got network access
some minutes later, no more network. but then rcnetwork restart bring
the network up.
now it seems to work ok.
So, is this a systemd problem (I don't yet remember the systemd way to
reload network), knetworkmanager problem ((I don't find it in the
menus under his name) or a local problem (my wife had problems with
his smartphone at the same moment)?
If I'm the only one with this problem, it's probably local

I did a bit of testing. Trying to switch from systemv to systemd by removing
systemd-sysvinit might work, but removing the systemd package to go the other
way gets into a lot of dependency warnings.
The following commands work, but may not be optimal:
To select systemv as default, run the following (as root):
rm /sbin/init
ln -s /sbin/sysvinit /sbin/init
To select systemd as default, run the following:
rm /sbin/init
ln -s /bin/systemd /sbin/init
Should this kind of change be possible through a YaST GUI, or as a pair of scripts?

Hi everybody,
I noticed during the boot process - we're still getting the bootsplash
switching to black. It's between the geeko animated eyes and the fade in
of the ksplashx-suse theme.
Is this still a bug outstanding with systemd? I couldn't find it in
Bugzilla.
Cheers!

Due to http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2011-10/msg00876.html I
tried to install via HTTP instead of NFS, but get indicated message instead
of progress for several minutes. No existing bug found for this either. :-(

Hello all,
I zypper dup´d my system to factory this morning. After ~2 hours of
updating, I restarted my workstation. I tried to boot Linux 3.1-rc9, but
the result was that the desktop-entry in bootloader looked like the
failsafe one.
I´ve got installed an old 2.6.37.6 too, so I´ve chosen this one. With
the result, that I´ve installed KDE 4.6.00 now, instead of my old KDE
4.6.5. As I remembered right, openSUSE 12.1 RC1 should deliver KDE 4.7.
right?
Also, KDE doesn´t support the 3D-desktop and transparency anymore.
Now, I will zypper dup to the 12.1 repositories.
Does anyone have the same problem?

Has anyone trying to install from RC1 iso over NFS seen this? MD5SUM is OK. I
don't find an open bug.

I have a ThinkPad E520, which has HDMI output, in addition to the
traditional VGA. When I connect a HDTV via HDMI, I cannot get the
monitor & TV to show the same thing, unless I set both to 1024 x 768. I
can have separate displays at full resolution. Is there anyway to get
both displays to show the same thing, without limiting resolution.
Another issue is when HDMI is plugged in, the audio does not switch to
the TV, leaving audio playing on the ThinkPad built in speakers. Both
of these items work well in Windows 7, where as soon as I plug in the
external HDTV, the video is duplicated and the audio switched, as it
should. Why doesn't openSUSE do this?
I'm running 12.1 RC1, but this likely occurs with earlier versions too.
The BIOS is configured so that the HDMI connection is active.

I'm anticipating moving from oS 11.3 to oS 12.1 (with xfce) with a clean
install in a month or so. A problem for me since jumping into GNU/Linux
with oS 11.0 has been configuring my external, serial/USB, hardware
modem. Editing config files directly and/or reconfiguring options in
YaST, which didn't always take, and/or the GUI dialer was needed when
first installing 11.0 and, again, with the switch to 11.3. For instance,
the config files changed between 11.0 and 11.3.
I've searched for information regarding the use of a dialup modem with
12.1 to no avail. Could someone, please, tell me where I could find the
answers to the following questions, or should I wait until oS 12.1 is
released before searching?
1.) Will the modem config file still be ifcfg-modem0 and will it
still be located in /etc/sysconfig/network/?
2.) Will the GUI for the dialer still be qinternet?
TIA,
Mark Z.

On my 11.4 machine as well on 12.1 (according to this user's report http://tinyurl.com/5tjuorp ) there
are multiple excess locales. For example, for Russian-language installation there are:
anixx@anixx-desktop:~> du -hs /usr/lib/locale/en_US*
288K /usr/lib/locale/en_US
292K /usr/lib/locale/en_US.iso885915
1,5M /usr/lib/locale/en_US.utf8
anixx@anixx-desktop:~> du -hs /usr/lib/locale/ru_RU*
288K /usr/lib/locale/ru_RU
288K /usr/lib/locale/ru_RU.koi8r
1,5M /usr/lib/locale/ru_RU.utf8
Is there a need for non-UTF8 locales?
That is why the following ones are installed by default:
288K /usr/lib/locale/en_US
292K /usr/lib/locale/en_US.iso885915
288K /usr/lib/locale/ru_RU
288K /usr/lib/locale/ru_RU.koi8r
