[opensuse-factory] 10.3 or 11.0 touchpad problem.

Below is a conversation between Chuck Stuettgen and myself. We both have had a problem on different laptops of not being able to turn off the touchpad. I know that in some other distoros this does work....turn it off in KDE and it's "gone." But, in both 10.3 and 11.0 this doesn't work in Yast nor KDE. The xorg.conf on fresh install also has two entries for the touchpad. I would have to say that is an installation bug. But since it is not referenced anywhere else it should not cause you any problems leaving it in the conf file. However, the ServerLayout section in my install does have the missing line for the Mouse[3] InputDevice "Mouse[3]" "SendCoreEvents" When I tried both the synclient -l and synclient touchpadoff=1 commands they both worked. I believe if you just add the missing line to the ServerLayout section you should be good to go. [opensuse-factory] Bad lock up in gnome (fresh RC4)

I just did a fresh install of RC4 on a T61p and gnome is having some weird stability issues. Some leading to gnome and it just locking up, requiring a hard reboot. RC2/3 felt more stable. (they were upgrades from RC1, I think). Also after installing the nvidia drivers, simple-ccms (can't remember the name) fails because it can't find xgl. I thought there was a switch away from that? In order to get it to work, I had to manually run xgl-switch --enable. [opensuse-factory]problem with ath5k driver?

I have been trying to copy a file from my PowerBook to my Thinkpad over the network. The Thinkpad has a Netgear wireless card that uses the ath5k driver and the Powerbook uses a DLink card that uses the madwifi driver(the chipset isn't supported by ath5k). Well, after a lot of frustration and thinking it was the Powerbook, it turned out to be the Thinkpad(at which point my son decided to rub it in my nose because the Powerbook is his). Anyway, the problem had to do with the MAC address being lost. When I did a dmesg, I got the following: recvmsg bug: copied E638B28A seq E638B832 KERNEL: assertion (flags & MSG_PEEK) failed at net/ipv4/tcp.c (1354) Over and over again. Any idea if this is a Kernel problem or a module problem? And which way I should report it? [opensuse-factory] optimal "submit to Factory" work-flow?

Hallo. I am thinking about the best work-flow of submitting to Factory via OBS. Suppose that I am a maintainer of a package (say hugin) Suppose that this package is now part of the multimedia:graphics project. We would need: 1) "Dynamic life" of the package in multimedia:graphics. Easy to change, easy to develop, easy to test, by community and for community. 2) Trusted submits to Factory. 3) Later probably security submits before CRD I can imagine several work-flows, but I am unsure, which one would be the best one: 1. The "Factory master" resides in my home project. Anybody (from m:g maintainers) changing it in multimedia:graphics will submit it to my home and I will review and submit to Factory. + Looks clean - Just one intermediate level 2. The "Factory master" resides in multimedia:graphics and only I am allowed to change it there. + Simple - "Dynamic life" criteria not met. Anybody improving it has to branch it and then submit. 3. The "Factory master" resides in multimedia:graphics and anybody (from m:g maintainers) is allowed to change it there. + Simple + "Dynamic life" criteria met. - Package cannot be trusted. - Creates a need of two different submit notification: * package was changed, don't forget to review and submit to Factory * got submit request, accept and submit to Factory 4. [opensuse-factory] gpk-update-viewer and gpg keys

[opensuse-factory] pulse audio loop & crash

Hi there, has anybody but me encountered this phenomenon? At one instance I opened a video file in VLC just after stopping audio playback in Banshee, and both apps froze, the last second of the audio clip looped indefinitely and even after killing both applications the loop continued. At that time I could only solve it by rebooting. Lateron I worked with Kino (10.3 version, I have to admit) and could reproduce it (involuntarily) by skipping back and forth in a raw DV file. I then realized I only had to kill the pulseaudio server in order to get out of the loop. Configuring Gstreamer to use ALSA instead of pulseaudio solved that problem for me.
