Hi, For me, only the delta isos are available from http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.1-Beta2/ The iso dir is empty. When trying to download the torrents (tried i386 and x86_64) it complains about "unregistered torrent". Assuming there is limited time between Beta and RC releases I'd prefer to release these versions on Mondays or during first half of the week. Otherwise there might not be enough Beta testers "active" during the first few days of the release period, meaning: bug reports (and later on bug fixes) might get delayed just for scheduling reasons. This will cause a broken update, because after installing the new rpm package, zypper can't install remaining x86_64.rpms any more. Hi everyone, it's a short week in Germany (public holiday tomorrow), and we are still working on creating a first installable build of openSUSE 11.1 Beta2. Currently, we are looking into a cyclic dependency between some packages. [opensuse-factory] Discussion about Java versions in 11.1

It's my understanding that 11.1 is planned to ship with openjdk 1.6 installed by default and with (only) Sun Java 1.6 available via non-oss repo. I'd like to discuss this, as it causes some major problems - at least for Danish users. 1) With Danske Bank - the largest Danish bank, home banking only works properly with Sun Java 1.5. With Sun Java 1.6 some core functionality doesn't work and with openjdk 1.6 you can't even login at all. 2) Another home bank system, common to many smaller Danish banks, won't work with Sun Java 1.6 on x86_64 systems (even with 32-bit firefox+32-bit java, even though it does work on full 32-bit systems with Sun Java 1.6). https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=288750 In summary, 11.1 will be unusable for Danske Bank customers and most x86_64 users without Sun Java 1.5 available - making it very difficult to recommend to anyone. I'm certain these problems of critical java applets, that only work (properly) with Sun Java 1.5, exist for very many users in very many countries. I suggest to include Sun Java 1.5 in the non-oss repo for 11.1. And to make this repo available for testing before release. I also encourage anyone who's dependant on Java applets to test this stuff ASAP. [opensuse-factory] Has anyone booted from a fresh 11.1b2 installation?

Hi, I just tried to reboot my fresh upgrade with grub-0.97-151.3 and I got the grub shell this time instead of os not found but no boot. I copied old backed up grub directory into /boot and used system repair to point grub at the new kernel and now it works. [opensuse-factory] Beta2 repos and reinstall

Hi, I did the Beta2 install of the DVD which worked perfectly. I then added (yast2, Software Repos -> Community Repos) MAIN Respo (OSS) and the Update repo. Doing a "zypper dup" first wanted to change vendor for all packages which is fine I suppose, but, it also wants to reinstall what seems to be all packages. What's the cause of this and can I disable the reinstall and just upgrade? An other minor thing is when trying to Edit a repo in yast2, it gives me a orange popup saying: UI Syntax Error Unknown widget type InputFiled Check the log file! Hi, we discussed already once [1] the situation with proprietary software on our distribution. We agreed on the list and in an IRC project meeting that it's not nice but is very convenient for many users and should stay therefor on media. I'm opening the discussion again as with that we never will achieve a user friendly licence as already copying of our software on DVD is not allowed and even some mirrors have an issue with this licence. We receive on a regular base inquiries in this regards and bad press [2]. Here is our proposal for new discussion. *Ship any media of openSUSE with open source software and proprietary software which allows redistribution (eg. firmware), for details [3]. *Add during installation automatically an online repo with the non-OSS stuff and install per default flashplayer (5MB) and the fluendo plug-in (210K) for mp3. This would allow us to offer a user friendly end user licence agreement (EULA) and would remove the cause of bad press and angry users reading the EULA really carefully. Some background info: - survey of usage of proprietary[4] software showed that only flashplayer and acroread really are used by a majority of users (Java is not an issue anymore as we ship with 11.1 openJDK) - with the distribution of 90%+ of broadband access amongst our users flashplayer via online repo shouldn't be a problem. And without internet access flashplayer won't be an issue for anybody. - For acroread we're sure that the open source alternatives (kpdf, evince, okular) are at same level with acroread. The only drawback we're aware of is the missing functionality PDF Forms offers today. We're asking for your buy-in for having a more friendly EULA, to make the distribution of openSUSE easier and get the software in more hands. BTW: we'll replace the proprietary agfa-fonts with the open source alternative Liberation fonts with openSUSE 11.1. Hi, I'm sure this is wrong kde3-i18n-en_GB-3.5.9-1.5 is in factory, I thought 11.1 was version 3.5.10 and in fact I have version 3.5.10-2.12 installed at the moment. This can cause a problem with zypper dup. The file date is 12 April 2008. I know I just had a solution to this lately but can find no evidence of either the question or any response, and Google doesn't seem to find anything on point. :-( Here's the response from trying to mount fstab entries that have always worked before today's updates: mount.nfs: rpc.statd is not running but is required for remote locking. mount.nfs: Either use '-o nolock' to keep locks local, or start statd. Running rpc.statd from shell prompt returns nothing and has no effect on mount attempts. Bash can't find statd. Neither rpc.statd nor statd exist in /etc/init.d. /usr/sbin/rpc.statd is 755 47424 29 Sept. Is the current factory comparatively stable, or in flux before the official beta 2 release? Hi, I'm just going through the beta 2 update packages in the new factory and I see yast wants to install three kernel packages :- kernel-pae - Kernel with PAE Support, kernel-pae-base - Kernel with PAE Support - base modules and kernel-pae-extra - Kernel with PAE Support - extra modules. Where can I find information on what has happened to the kernel in opensuse? I just installed a test system with opensuse 11.0 (2.6.25.16-0.1-pae) with KDE 4.1.2 (KDE 4.1.1(KDE4.1.+20080828)) release 52.2 from the factory repository. I found two items which may be bugs or just not completed yet. 1. on KMENU under system-->terminal there is no longer an option for a super user terminal (KDE 3.5.9-44) has this option. Do I need to report it as bug, is it incomplete or was it removed? 2. Under personal settings I can no longer find where to set up the device icons. It is under Personal_Settings-->desktop-->behavior on 3.5.9. Do I need to report it as bug, is it incomplete or was it removed? Thanks for any help. Hi, I have a question on a bug i wrote. Please look at https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=430944. Is this really how it should be usability wise? I find it strange that when the task is completed to "Install hypervisor and tools" it still remains for the user to use? Is there a way to get nvidia drivers running on 11.1b1? I have a GF4 (in my notebook) So I cannot use the 1xx.xx drivers e.v. 177.78.
